Just tried out Xenoblade 2 and made it to Chapter 3. Although I can say they tried making the GAME fun, what the fuck happened to the cutscene direction? I'd rather sit through disc 2 again than watch Rex save Pyra from her casket and get rescued by Gramps. Not only did EVERYONE turn into cutscene Dante, Pyra isn't a playable character but is able to swing a sword in cutscenes.
Xenogears cutscenes were long, but they always built up to something, and when something awesome happened, it was always in the fucking robots. I can't help but feel that Soraya Saga's departure from scriptwriting during Episode II, the series went all out on outrageous setpieces, especially for JRPGs.
Fei best protag, but Xenosaga's probably got the best party of the bunch. Hopefully all this DEEPEST LORE will be worth it if Square unearths Xenogears due to how successful NieR is.

As much as I like Xenogears, after getting Bart the rest of the party members only get 1 arc before they get sidelined, and most of their arcs had to share Fei's screentime anyway. Honestly,if the game was remade today, keeping it as an RPG would be pointless since most of the plot can be seen through either Fei, Elly, or Bart.
Even though the cast for Xenogears was wilder, Xenosaga wins out due to all of the characters having plot inertia and doing something before Shion showed up. I thought Albedo was a good villain that was ''executed' well.

Okay, so shitting on censorshit aside why would Monolith go through the trouble of adding Mythra's outfit to Xenoblade 2 as free DLC. NPCs mention the outfit is perfect for "smashing and brawling". This is alluding to more than Mythra being just a spirit in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Otherwise look at Camilla. They censored the cleavage but not the briefs. Mythra is being censored at all angles because Nintendo is assuming that she will be looked at all angles in the context of Smash Bros. They could censor only the cleavage and call it a day. However Mythra's outfit has a 3D model already. As for Camilla this is the only image you see of her. So there is no point in covering up her barely visible briefs with her current pose.
Mythra having a 3D modeled outfit already makes me believe that at least she will be the first DLC fighter revealed for Smash Bros. That is unless she, Pyra, and Rex are included as one Fighter. Unlike Rex, Mythra needs no driver outside of her Final Smash.

Mii costumes don't deny fighters entry into Smash. Sakurai stated that he didn't have the time to make Rex a full character. They might have plans and some assets on the cutting room floor. However if Nintendo was smart they can let Sakurai use these cutting room plans already made for Rex, Pyra, and Mythra as fighters to streamline the creation process of making them the first DLC fighter out of the gate around Valentine's Day (the date is intentional :3). This way a second fighter who have to have assets and plans made from scratch can be developed parallel and completed around August. And then a third fighter can come around May, then a holiday announcement for the last two with a big surprise like a mode Expansion or anniversary gift to the fans.
Rex, Pyra, and Mythra would be the best announcement after the fucking potted plant. Too bad the official amiibo will be censored.

I'd say it's about 20 steps, which isn't too bad, but what you need to watch out for are platforming sections with random encounters. The game loads random encounters from disc once they're triggered, which disables the jump button. I only had a problem with it once in Babel tower, and I ran into so many random encounters while trying to jump that they eventually despawned.

Let's start from the beginning. Xenosaga, the PS2 one, is pretty hard to get into. The first game isn't great, the second game might be worse, and only the third is any good but you need to understand the story which is pretty wild. As for the Xenoblade series proper, there's two main series right now. The main Xenoblade series consists of the first one for Wii and Xenoblade 2 for Switch. Both games are less open world and more wide hallway games, although there's clearly some inspiration from MMOs in both combat and quest structure. Story wise they have some connections, but they aren't revealed until the end and it's only there if you know what you're looking for, so you could theoretically play them in either order. The Wii U game, Xenoblade X, might be in a different subseries (or could very well be the 10th game in the franchise who knows). It actually is an open world game, although the only reasons to explore is for the hell of it, to complete quests, and to do your job of exploring the planet. It has not been ported to Switch, and probably won't be. As far as gameplay goes, Xenoblade X is basically Xenoblade with a job system, while Xenoblade 2 takes things in a bit of a different direction. It's all still cooldown based "singleplayer MMO" combat, just with different twists. As for censorship, depends on the game. Xenoblade and 2 mostly just have names changed for no good reason that sometimes obscures references that are kinda important. X on the other hand has some pretty botched dialogue that tries to be funny but doesn't work at all, not to mention a few really lazy outfit changes. There's a modded version of X that uses the Japanese audio and model files, but has the English text, built in DLC, and lack of boob slider of the US version. I'd recommend playing Xenoblade first, then maybe checking 2 if you don't quite like the combat. X I can only recommend if you like Xenoblade's systems, breaking the game over your knees, giant robots, and pretty alright alien worlds you can explore at your leisure. I don't know if I'd recommend buying them. I personally just hacked my Wii U to play X, but it's really up to you how you want to play them.

Depends on how much you love/hate the power of friendship™ and the shonen battle formula™ used unironically. As a game, Chronicles 2 feels like what FF13 would have been if FF12 was a success, with an expansive open world, no random encounters, and a flexible enough party in which they can play multiple roles, but not at the same time. Fast travel ruins the story sequences where you're trying to bust out of prison, but can walk out any time. Enemies way out of your league wander the field, but you can easily sneak by them and the checkpoint system is pretty generous.
As for the story, it actually does worldbuilding better with all the side missions, but you can tell they had kid gloves on when writing the plot. Rex is an unironic normalfag lad, and there's zero crazy going on in the cast (not necessarily a bad thing flying the T rating), but half of the party cast are written like parodies, and there's no chemistry between Rex and Pyra besides him white knighting her. Xenogears/Saga had a few problems of their own, but at least it was pretty inventive to compensate. After becoming Bimtendo's bitches it feels like they threw out their DSM-IV book and photocopies of the dead sea scrolls, and cover it up with SAO-style fantasy and current anime culture.

I don't blame you, Xenosaga didn't have as many environments and took a lot of time to set up how the cast meets each other in a bunch of spaceships. It did polish up how deathblows worked, but it only had 2 battle themes in the whole game and the attack animations were stiff as hell.
XCX hasn't been ported to the Switch, so your best best is playing the undub on CEMU. The (((treehouse))) localizers were really proud of themselves when they replaced legit dialogue with memes like "do you even lift?" It's as painful as it sounds, I still haven't touched it to this day.
Xenogears doesn't count it was literally one dude with a box of scraps, and probably one of the few localizers that overexplained with the use of brackets.

Ah, thanks for the info Bros. I haven't done any console hacking since the original Wii and DS Lite systems. So I'm a little rusty. I have a Wii U but the only game I've played on it is Bayonetta 2. I should probably try to modify that and my switch while I still can. It's too bad Square owns everything story and character was from Xenogears because it would be fun, for me at least to see a shout out to some of those old robots and characters. Hacking the Wii U is relatively easy. Even the most recent firmware version can be hacked as long as you download a single Virtual Console DS title. If you liked Bayo 2 I suggest trying out Wonderful 101. It's not quite like any other stylish action game, but it is pretty great overall I'd say. It's a real shame Squeenix is fucking retarded with allowing any cameos outside their games. Geno was cut from the Super Star Saga remake, Cloud almost didn't get into Smash Ultimate, and yet for some reason Xenogears from the Xenogears series shows up in World of Final Fantasy.

Since this thread is back up I figure I may as well bring up a bit of ideas we had with the next Xenoblade game from last thread. At least in regards to plot. Since the series is generally about artificial lifeforms do you think we can get a plot about cycles of obsolescence? Recently there's a discussion elsewhere about Lulu and Nana, China's first genetically modified born humans. And it got me thinking about how a People's Republic style dictatorship would control DNA of every creature in the universe. It also got me thinking about cycles of planned obsolescence where once a strand of DNA is no longer useful to the state then every trace of it must be destroyed or else a possible enemy will develop in the wild with this DNA and use it against the state?
I wonder if this type of story can have a Gnosticism twist to it to fit with the Xenoseries in general.

I was surprised to see so much genetic engineering in the story when I first played Xenogears, but Takahashi somehow managed to make it work in a mech story without making all the mecha organic like Evangelions, despite the influence of Evangelion on everything else about it. In Xenosaga they had Realians, and Xenoblade 2 has the Blades, but the series has gotten somewhat less mech-centric over time.

I'll take just about anything as long as I can get some playable giant robots. My thought was a Xeno strategy game, but it's difficult to pinpoint a time frame or universe to set it in. You could only have it in the XG, XS or XCX universes since they're the only ones that have mecha. They'd have to make up new conflicts to give the game the required variety. The only war from XG that you could have a strategy game set in would be the Aveh-Kislev war because Gears were discovered during the era of 500 years prior to the start of XG and the rest of the wars after that point are depicted in XG itself, but this means having every map set in the desert. That may work for Homeworld (sort of), but it's not a very Xeno thing to do. Zeboim was starting to build their own Gears, but they got nuked soon after, so there's not a lot of potential there. XS is probably the way to go because the Federation has been around for 4000 years, so they have a good deal of space and time to work with. XCX could only have a strategy game fit into its storyline in a sequel, but XCX also has a smorgasbord of alien races whereas there are no aliens in XS.

Could make a new Xeno sub series that's a spin-off title. I know I'm itching for a Front Mission/Gun Hazard style game too. I do feel if XB3 brings back mecha it'll still be a single player MMO type game. Right now Monolith is focused on making a hard fantasy new IP. It'll be a while for mecha, unless we make our own.

I was thinking of a real-time game, but you could go a lot of different directions with a Xeno spinoff. I'm very skeptical of fan-based efforts to make anything Xeno-inspired considering that they just barely managed to get Xenogears out the door while working for a AAA game company.

I'd make my own IP irrelevant to the Xeno series personally to avoid DMCA and to con normal fags to monetize it, but don't worry about yourselves /v/ you will pirate like you always do.
Also I looked up Xenogears gameplay for Emerelda and it looks a lot like Project X-zone.
