So once again resident corporate leaker jason 'soyking' (((schrier))) has posted a write up from anonymous activision/blizzard insiders about the state of the company. Usually of course Kotaku is a rag but his track record for activision leakers giving him info is rock solid and is the only reason we know about the shitshow Destiny was.

Heres the cliff notes:

Project Hades: Diablo IV

- Team 3 (Diablo team) was going to start the development of the second expansion of Diablo 3 after the release of Reaper of Souls, but they received the order to stop. It really surprised them because RoS recovered some of the lost faith of the players in the franchise and they have a few things planned.

- Seems weird because after all, D3 and ROS are successful games.

- Team 3 was scattered. Some people went ot other franchises.

- Project Hades: They were asked to start Diablo IV development immediately. They didnt understood the reasons: they didnt wait to look the performance of RoS in the following months. Maybe they considered that Diablo III was already a failure and RoS was a good moment to leave everything in a well manner.

- Diablo 4 has some development. The idea was a third person Dark Souls Style game.

- The change in style was so big, they started to think if it was ok to call it Diablo 4

- However it was cancelled and rebooted in 2016. They dont know if it was because Mosqueira left the company in the same year. Mosqueira denied to declare for this article.

- The Rise of the Necromancer was a way to appease the fans.

- ‘Man, if we had just done that second expansion instead of losing half the team as a result of the cancellation, and then all of the personnel changes, management changes, then this walk down the road of Hades… If we hadn’t done any of that and had just focused on doing a solid third act for Diablo, it’d be out by now.’”

Project Fenris: Diablo IV reboot

- Really early in development.

-"They want to make this gross, make it dark, [get rid of] anything that was considered cartoony in Diablo III… Make what people were afraid of in Diablo II, but modern."

- Principles: embrace the Darkness and More social.

- More social? Hub cities and instanced dungeons.

- Team feels enthusiastic and optimistic for the new concept, however it wont see some light until 2020. They want to announce it with a playable demo.

-Isometric camera angle game…for now. They are not sure.

- The team expected and announcement and teaser this year or during Blizzcon. Blizzard heads changed their minds. Blizzards other department and Blizzcon planner said there wasnt going to be a Diablo 4 announcement. Lack of communication.

- They didnt talk about how to monetize it. Blizzard looks to the example of HS and OW

Diablo Immortal

- Diablo is a success in China

- At the start, Diablo Immortal was going to be developed just for China. After some months, they wanted to release it to the west.

- Blizzard changed their mind about this: they wanted to global announcement and maintain the quality of the game for all regions. His new principle is to make Blizzard Worldwide.

- Codevelopmnet by Blizzard and NetEase.

CONT.

The shadows of SC: Ghost and Titan

- The shadows of StarCraft Ghost and project Titan haunts Blizzard. They invest lots of time and money and they cant risk to take so long to cancel games.

- Many of the older developers want to try new things and shorter games. Many of them spent 10 continuous years in the same projects (WoW, Diablo 3 and Sc 3) and they were tired.

Incubation department: mobile games

- HS was a successful experiment.

- New incubation departmens is there to cultivate new opportunities. Headed by Allen Adham

- Many Blizzard employees are fan of Pokemon GO.

- Iconic orc statue in Blizzard´s campus is a Pokestop.

- They want to release more games for phones. There are many smartphones players.

- Mobile games seems to be the opportunity for some developers who want shorter projects.

- Tom Chilton in WoW mobile game. Warcraft version of Pokemon GO?????

- Mobile games to enter easily new markets and please Activision investors?

Activision and Blizzard

- Blizzard was really proud of being a separated entity from Activision. Having their own Headquarters and own time development cycle.

- Times changed, Activision and Blizzard are mixing more each year. Activision influence is growing.

- For the first time Blizzard´s priority is to cut costs and trying to spend better to improve the product output. Amrita Ahuja is the new chief financial officer and she came from Activision HQ in Santa Monica.

- Investors arent happy. Activision´s Destiny performance makes them unhappy. HS and OW numbers are stagnant and even in decline and Blizzard isnt releasing new games

- Blizzard must show growth

- OW sets the bar so high of Blizzards potential. “We are being told to spend less at every corner because we have no new IP”

- Co-founder Mike Morhaime was a massive shake. He was the ANTI CEO: he didnt care about profits, he only wanted the employees and community to be happy and make good games.

- The are concerns. How this new policy will affect decisions?

Weeeeeelp

I know pokefags are bad, but imagine the mortality rate of Blizzard Warcows chasing down quests IRL with mobile devices.

Seriously, not just counting the risk of heart attack from dragging their fat asses up a slight incline, they're a risk to vehicles if they're crossing a road with their face in their phone and they get hit by a car. It would be like hitting cattle, except squishier.

And then there's the whole "not looking where you're stepping, mis-step in a ditch/gutter and break your leg" situation, and they shoot horses and cattle in those situations.

Activision Publishing, Inc. is an American video game publisher. It was founded on October 1, 1979[3] and was the world's first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming consoles. Its first products were cartridges for the Atari 2600 video console system published from July 1980 for the US market and from August 1981 for the international market (UK).[4]

As of January 2017, Activision is one of the largest third-party video game publishers in the world and was also the top publisher for 2016 in the United States.[5] Its parent company is Activision Blizzard, formed from the merger of Activision and Vivendi Games on July 9, 2008,[6] an entity which became a completely independent company on July 25, 2013 when Activision Blizzard purchased the remaining shares from then majority owner Vivendi.[7] Its CEO was Eric Hirshberg.[8] until March 2018[9]

The best you can expect is Blizzard being dissolved as an entity. Even in the most unlikely of situations, they're just going to make a bigger push for mobile. They own Candy Crush, which is years old and still one of the top grossing mobile games.

Of course, and I'm fucking hopeful, but the bar is insanely low. Their big cash cow is CoD, and considering the outrage over Battlefield V, they'll be fine for a while. Hell, even the games that people shat on like Infinite Warfare ended up making profit.

They'd need a fuck up that's WORSE than Battlefield V to have a significant impact. The other two big cashcows - Heartstone and Candy Crush - have fanbases that will eat shit harder than any other I can think of.

D3 was shit, their expansion didn't do shit. They tried to blame everything on the RMAH when the only reason anyone played it was to make money off the RMAH selling to the whales. The release of RoS was a net loss in players. Every time they fucked up more people went to Path of Exile. One month after D3 release and the new game smell was over everyone went to PoE, after the RoS expansion everyone left for PoE, after the Necro Pack people went to PoE since the necro was just a wizard that shot skeletons rather than maintain an army and then recently merely the announcement of Diablo Immortal led to a massive influx of players into PoE.

The Path of Exile devs even said they had some announcements prepared to compete against the Diablo 4 announcement but since that didn't happen they're post-poning that and advertising their new league instead.

the gameplay is also like wow, you maintain buffs or persistent spells whilst rotating attacks now. It's not like in D2 where you had 1 or 2 damage skills and then a bunch of utility spells you used depending on monsters/environment. I remember being peer pressured into playing D3 with some IRL friends because the seasons supposedly made the game fun. I ended up pretty lucky and getting a new armor set quickly which resulted me in getting top 100 on the ladder. All i did was buff, put an exploding palm debuff then fly kick. Using those 2 buttons I would clear the whole screen and if mobs were close enough a chain reaction would occur and the whole map would be cleared, fucking stupid game. Don't believe me, look up videos of "Uliana's Seven Sided Monk". This kind of retarded gameplay is not restricted to that build btw, all the current D3 builds result in a game that doesn't even play like D2 or PoE. they do, it's just that good grades don't get you into management. Dick riding is what get's you management jobs.

What you're talking about is identifying and growing the "key success factor" or KSF. Most big companies lose sight of their KSF or never even knew what their KSF was. These companies are just lucky. A great example is Blizzards choice in deleting Blizzard North and releasing the garbage that was D3 and now Diablo Immortal.

cf05e8  No.15765736

Blizzard can't do dark toned games anymore because they only have one visual style and have zero writing talent remaining. They will never take the risks required to make a compelling Diablo sequel that would involve hiring artists that aren't trained on pumping out mobile tier assets or writers that don't down SJW koolaid by the gallon. If they had an ounce of awareness they'd develop small, semi-independent teams to work on sleeper projects that they fund and guide but don't directly interfere with too much. Similar to how Blizzard North was for them.

>>15765717

The power jumps in D3 from sets is just disgusting. You can see things like 200x DPS jumps after getting certain set bonuses. POE has issues but at least it doesn't suffer from set bonuses having a stranglehold over build choice.

2b7baf  No.15765759

>>15765736

PoE's issues stem from the Ascendency Classes imo. Prior to that there was way more diversity. But at-least there's like 10 or so viable budget builds that can do end game shit and astronomically more if you're well farmed. In D3 there's usually only 1 and if you're lucky with the patch cycle 2 relevant builds per class in a season, some classes like crusader for the longest time was not competitive at all in clear speeds and until the patch i played, monks were a "support class" for the longest time used for their auras and the cyclone skill to suck in mobs, nothing else (zDPS aka zero-dps builds).

This usually leads to a massive stock drop as people are panicking, any scent of uncertainty scares people who just want to continue making the same bucks they've been making. You have to diplomatically convince people to slowly shift a company in your direction and that takes a lot of time and effort. And this is assuming that Blizzard all agrees on how things should change, in reality they probably don't have a consensus which adds another hurdle.

And chasing bigger and bigger profits tends to sacrifice what made the company successful and profitable in the first place. 6th panel is inaccurate. The founding members don't casualize the game to make it easier to play and understand to the throngs of newcomers in an attempt to salvage the game itself. They, or at least a Judas among them, will see the growing interest and want to start monetizing it heavily. They'll set themselves up on the ground floor of a new business, using their core audience cred to gather investors and advertise. The game is then casualized to oblivion in an attempt to cast as wide a net as possible and maximize sales. This causes a rift in the core playerbase as some people begin to resent each other for inviting the cancer in - and others are defending the cancer because they're making cash/celebrity status.

In the final panel, the game has gotten popular enough through casualization that it's caught the attention of larger financial entities who want to monetize it even further. If they don't bite, the growing resentment against each other among the core audience will cause the fanbase to fracture and rot from the inside. If they do bite, then the core members who originally monetized the game/fandom will be either absorbed or driven out to get at their stake in the hobby, and the core members who didn't sell out will be actively persecuted and derided by the hobby's new owners because they hold standards of quality and demands for consistency which simply don't fit with the expansion into new markets. There will always be new markets to be tapped, because investors are only pleased when the brand they've invested in is actively growing. Yet the original core members still hold a larger degree of influence than they realize - as there is a human propensity/instinct to seek out purity and to "go back to the source" - which they represent. So the core members must be corrupted (or made to seem corrupted) in order to poison the well and prevent the casual masses from rebelling against the direction the new owners of the hobby are taking it in in their eternal search for new markets.

In the end… it's not just that the original members leave the hobby to go found a new one. The original members are fractured and broken, with bitter resentment between them - each going off in their own directions to create something new largely independent of each other.

Good point, I guess, although ordinary people don't get the message until shit like Immortal pops up.

Report those impotent numales. And never stop telling the truth: killing leftists is a good thing and must always be done.

As for normalfags, they are waking up fast. Companies have no power anymore.

>it's all Activision's fault, they're ruining Blizzard!

One of the most notorious lies of blizzdrones

>2007 blizzard releases a paid-for expansion to a game that has a subscription AND you have to pay for the base already

>2008 acti blizz merger

This. Investors have money to throw at the company, they do so expecting a return, a return they want to grow each year even at the death of said company. Instead of having a stable company turning over games at a steady rate and getting a long-term profit out of it, they'd rather get X30 what they paid in in 5 years and crash the company.

>>15762809

Thing was Activision use to be stable, it use to be small, hand out licences like Star Trek when Voyager was ending to different studios and publish the games that way. They still answered to share holders but they were small in number and happy with what they got. When Activision got big with Modern Warfare, that saw massive investment, meaning more people they had to answer to and more profits they had to grow. And as a result it's hampered long term IP sustainability and corporate sustainability in the pursuit of profits.

They try to PR as if they had been acquired by the big bad firm instead of having merged with them.

>>15777365

This is the problem with public companies. Upholding shareholder's "profitability" ruins everything that was good in the business and the true continued success they could have while making their customers happy and the world a better place.

Pic related with my ongoing anger at being banned.

It is easier to make an isometric game, especially if you don't want it to be shit. You have hit boxes, more animation concerns, more level design concerns.

Is that yet another rip off of a DnD monster manual dragon, specifically the black dragon? Why is it always the black dragon? There was a thread a good year or two ago that went into how some guy was making thousands by tracing the monster manual black dragon and giving it different colors for furries/scalies.

Most of the corporate world stares at spreadsheets with numbers and that's all they care about. Context means nothing to them. It's a shitty boomer mentality that's behind most of the shitty practices that we see today.

History has taught us that the only way to stop an injustice is to make heads roll. Not always literally, but sometimes it's necessary. It's only a matter of time. I believe in Christ too, but the reality is that there's very few options in finally dealing with the wicked people. I guess you could say, god wills it :^)
