this has been done before and it always fails because inviting /v/ to do anything will always invite a certain element who believes the shitpost is the goal. i've contributed to two of the six or so wikis that have popped up and since died and every single one of them has contributions that get butchered, then they get reverted, then it goes on and on with two or more users fighting over what they want a particular article to say/mean. either you need to have forced anonymity where anyone can edit anything, or you need to have faggy usernames and at that point it's just a blog

That effort ceased to get much traction after they lost a bunch of content in an upgrade way back, leading to people not wanting to contribute further if it just risked being lost (there is a difference in effort between just asking people to post names/covers, and actually care enough to write about games they like). For myself, I'm just glad I'd had a backup text file of what I had written at the time, so at least those ones got back on it. But as of now, good luck getting people to care at this point when no one's cared for years and even the url itself more or less lost and forgotten for quite some time

Wiki is the way to do it, but content-wise, good fucking luck. I tried automating the chart generation for the Vita generals so that only the content needed submitting, and it turns out that despite whining, they're not that desperate to be rid of the 4chan chart (the one with shit like Danganronpa V3 for example), and historic attempts made by one person ended up biased.

There was an attempt like yours prior to even that, with the idea being to let other anons in the thread do the contributions to better represent tastes, but even then there weren't many takers. As stated above, getting people to list names and post covers/box art is very easy. Getting them to actually write short blurbs for what a game's like and why they'd recommend it though apparently involves too much effort. That's why that Vita attempt never took off better. Obviously no one was really amused by the later "my tastes represent the entire thread" one, but in a few anons wanting to make things a bit easier for people to get into a system with a niche library through descriptions, going just that step further as a requirement winds up asking too much. At least at this point. I recall years back DS and PSP threads having an easier time of it. Whether it was due to the charts being revisions that retained the prior entries (and descriptions as a base) as opposed to being explicitly from scratch, or perhaps a demographic replacement from anons that cared to contribute to those that don't, or something else, I can't say.
Of course, I've also seen it said in the past that pretty much any and all wikis or charts are shit anyhow, and that anons should all just do their own research on games how they choose to rather than put any faith in what anons here decide to make.

The actual tile generator was basically finalized, at least for physical. It was just missing actual data for games. For that, I had no expectation of people submitting them through pull requests. Posting them in the thread or via E-mail was intended. That said, PRs were accepted and CSV format is easy to edit in a spreadsheet program, I had instructions for importing to Libreoffice. The rest is a JPEG/PNG coverart named GAMEID.jpg and a GAMEID.txt with the description.

Issue is that people bitch and moan about the existing images for other systems than the DS/PSP having no additional game-by-game data than covers and titles, but trying to get them to provide more gets very little interest at this point. Ultimately, I don't think there's a way to satisfy everyone, be it descriptions vs no descriptions, or personal recs vs seeking input from other anons (both of which have their issues), so do keep that in mind.

Pretty much how things used to be done for the DS and PSP images, and for the effort for the wiki OP mentioned years back. Granted, you do need to keep the amount of space allotted in mind with it comes to image vs hypertext, as space is a lot more limited for the former. I'd say to try paring the description down a little, but that's just me (pic related comparing the amount of text in his example to yours).

There's a few for games I've played since the last attempts at trying to get contributions that I could try to work up, but I'll admit I'm a bit leery unless this can start becoming more of an active thing rather than no one knowing or caring about the site once again (just seems a waste of time/energy if people aren't going to read or know about the wiki). But of course, there's also the factor that taste varies, and what's of interest and fun to one person, even within the same series, is apt to get a vehement "why the fuck is this allowed?" response from stricter fans, even if the description does mention it's hit or miss (but enjoyable for those they hit with, or go into the right mindset with).

I think part of the issue is that there's a sort of reciprocation that needs to be had for things to get done: People aren't apt to bother with the wiki if there's not enough people doing entries to expand it from how limited it currently is, but at the same time people also aren't going to take the time or energy to contribute to it either if others aren't going to read it or even care to remember it's existence. The url got more or less forgotten for years until an anon used some text he'd written, searched for the exact wording, and found it again. Strikes me that it could be of use for Mark to stick a mention about or link to it in the board subhead, or something, so more people are aware and see it.
Again, I've got some stuff I could write up a little later, but I assume I'm in the same boat as at least some others: being unsure of if the effort would just go unnoticed again.

This is one of the reasons Git is excellent, though for collaboration it's more awkward than wikis. Aside from providing full history, it is decentralized version control so it's trivial to copy. The share threads use it for their info pages, and I use it for the Vita hacking guide, and the framework that's being worked on to generate a game recommendation image for the Vita threads since we're still using the 4chan one.
