Some shit is about to happen on the Firaxisgames stream and it looks like it could be an anouncement. People have been speculating that it could be something new related to the Civilization series or Xcom. It all started about 23 hours ago with just a stream of a blue sky with clouds and a city at the bottom. After a few hours the sky darkened. This patern has been repeating and now we have a countdown. Of course it could just all be part of some shitty ruse by them, but I think it's worth it to keep an eye on it just in case

Without the mods they're games that fail to grasp even the basics.

TBS games strive on giving you options and letting you play around with the TECHNOLOGY it provides. The firaxcom games are the complete opposite to this, having zero TECHNOLOGY and pushing you down one linear upgrade path with very limited options or ways to customize your playstyle.
What's left are the purdy animations and graphics, and those aren't in the slightest bit impressive and I hope the release of competitors such as Xenonauts 2, Phoenix point and none ayy killing simulators like End State will open the masses eyes as to how terrible Firaxis' games are.
Hell I'll even take that Gears of War TBS if it's made by actual thinking human beings instead of monkeys.

I wish the technologies were more varied, there are only 8 of them and the rest are just upgrades. Same for buildings. Documentation is even worse than Alpha Centauri's. As for cinematics, I'm not asking for full motion video but something on par with 1993's Civilization: still better than a static screen that reads "you're winner!".

I'd be interested to see what they do with a sequel, but it was annoying when I noticed they made yet another DLC for the game. They need to cut that shit out and make a proper sequel like they did with ES2. There is a lot they can do as well, like an option to turn off winter.

Ignoring the poz, the mechanics sound like shit. Disasters happening in high value areas while simultaneously increasing the value isn't going to add anything to the strategic layer. Nobody is going to consider NOT settling in a location that is strictly better with the downside that you'll take some damage while also making the tiles even better. It's only adding another layer of RNG. But that's all Firaxis knows how to do anymore anyway.
