>Do you know anyone that desperately wants to be a 'scene' or 'community' e celeb and they stick to bad/dying games to ironically avoid competition?
Smashfags are some of the biggest suckers for scams like this, due to the esports virus having gotten ahold of their community years ago. Rivals of Aether and Icons: Combat Arena are some of the funniest instances of people whoring themselves out for stillborn careers and games. I think Rivals is a little funnier due to the game 1) still existing, barely, and 2) being populated almost exclusively by Meleefags who weren't good enough to beat all the other Meleefags with better muscle memory.
Let's look at the timeline of Rivals of Aether:
>release game in embryonic state in 2015 with all of 3 characters and shitty, low-resolution pixel art
>no blocking and no grabbing because you can't be fucked to implement two fundamental mechanics of fighting games and Smash Bros.
>game is basically unplayable unless you're using a gamecube controller or another controller with 2 analogue sticks due to retarded system mechanics
>add three or four characters over the next year and a half, when you aren't paying attention to the "competitive community" for ebin balance patches
>Smashfags flock to it, play it for a bit, and promptly drop it en masse because it isn't Smash
>barely add single-player content, except for a handful of minigames and tutorials, and gouge players for individual characters because the developer can't hold down a job outside of fleecing autistocrats
<but you can still find time to make custom skins, and stages for epic esports events, fellow gamers :^)
My favourite part is that the dev apparently has enough free time and money to make his own Nintendo Direct spoof as an April Fool's joke, call his fans entitled, and to sponsor (((professional))) tournaments, but the original characters still don't have fucking shading on their various attack animations from 2015.
The snake character is really cool and I'm sad she's stuck in a shit game.
