it's a mix between PT, Clock Tower and the scariest game of all time Gone Home but before you take a shit all over it the comparisons are more in the style. It's got an okay story so far and there are some decent spooks. It's also really nice to look at. Give it a pirate and you might have an hour or two of scares.
>SH3
christ, I have played this maybe a half dozen times and it drives me nuts how half-baked this fucking game is. The sound design is mostly awesome, and the graphics generally look better than most games today but holy shit the game is not great and compared to 1,2 and even 4, it is short, railroaded to hell and back, and filled with some of the worst enemy designs and layouts. It's still a great horror game with some memorable locations but in general it's such a disappointment.
we're getting close to REmake2 time, I'm actually getting sort of excited

Beat Haunting Ground, Fatal Frame 2 and Silent Hill 3 last month. HG was excellent, might even become my favorite horror game of all time. FF2 was disappointing, especially after how everyone I've talked to about it hypes it up a bunch. SH3 was good, but I prefer the other entries more, namely 1 and the Room. Not sure what I'm going to get around to next, maybe some Blood. Last time I tried playing it though, the game pushed my shit in.

2. I was wondering about making a System Shock 2 mod with a crafting system. You wouldn't be finding items around, but energy to power a gizmo that makes them. Including cybermodules to upgrade your stats, so it would be a big minigame of balancing priorities.

Not that rare. Given a fully random spread, an ID would have a 1/65536 chance of starting with dead. If you wanted "dead" anywhere in the ID, you have 3 different possible positions for it to appear in, giving you about a 1 / 21846 chance of appearing. This is fairly uncommon for any individual post or even any individual thread, but given that this was post 15756207, that means that "dead" has been the start of an ID roughly 240 times, and appeared inside an ID anywhere about 721 times.

People have always sworn by the RPGmaker horror games, a lot of them have cult followings. I know games like Yumi Nikki were posted fucking everywhere back in the day, so I made it a point to play a few of the big hitters in the last few weeks (yumi, ib, paranoiac, etc)
I can honestly say there isn't a single one I've tried that was worth my time. Some of them were presented really well, Ib had an excellent soundtrack and Yumi Nikki has good atmosphere, but largely these games are fucking garbage. Lazy chase sequences every five minutes, gameplay consists of running from area to area spamming Z seeing what changed and what you have to click to get on with it, honestly a huge disappointment all around. These games always had a weird mystique about them, like they were personal and strange because they weren't so widespread, the kind of charm a niche interest can have. Can't say I found myself feeling it.

Unsure what the updates may have done but if you're craving a mediocre RE4 clone with decent amount of content you could do worse. $15 seems a bit high but thats me.

Psychonauts and the memory of the burning orphanage in Mila's mind came pretty much out of nowhere, doubly so given that Mila's psychic abilities meant she could literally hear every last scream of the children as they burned to death.
The game as a whole has some pretty dark undertones (for instance, the camper girl Phoebe being able to use pyrokinesis but also being deeply scared of fire due to certain accidents in her past).

Come on now. Sure the scene of Mayu behind the gate was a bit too forced, but you have to take into account 1) She was being posessed by the main antagonist and 2) You never had an escort mission with her, every time she was with you she served as an invincible decoy.
The fact is Fatal Frame, at its core, is about cursed locations where a horrific ritual torturing innocent maidens doomed the place not because they took place, but because they existed to contain greater, primordial evils and failed. And Zero 2 is a much greater accomplishment of that premise. From 3 onwards they stuck to the larger premise but diversified to other concepts. Zero 2 is the most pure. Zero 1 is just the chrysalis

A game hasn't kept me that much on edge for a while and it scared me quite a bit but mainly because of extremely loud and sudden sounds.
Atmosphere, sound and graphics are good, gameplay is very basic, puzzle- and level design are half assed, and don't expect an actual story.

don't know about an infographic, but here's my experience:
Get the gog version, shit werks
Optionally get DPfix
Use steam to run it as a non-steam game (use the launcher; running the game exe itself won't give you fullscreen)
If you have an x360 controller or are fine with kbm, you're good to go. Otherwise use steam to configure a controller to something approximating xbox standards (the game actually uses DInput but is designed around the DInput signals a 360 controller sends, fucked up right stick and all. As a result, neither 32 nor 64-bit x360ce will work)
Use steam big picture mode to force it to use the settings (defaults to auto (which in turn defaults to off). It will remember it independent of BP mode but for some reason the option doens't exist outside of it)

Lone Survivor is kind of a bad example because even if it was 3D, the grossly exaggerated resource drain rate would still be a pain in the ass. Still, I would have to agree, horror has way too much to gain from not knowing what's behind you, or behind the corner, to be worth giving up 3D.

Going 2d first is a good way to if you are learning everything from the ground up. 3d can get tricky if you are doing your own engine etc thats why unity is so popular. you can get started with advanced stuff since so much is done for you. of course you still need to be good to make an actually functioning and fun game but i agree 2d seems better for platformers and similar genres

You are Jack, a kid in junior high whose father and mother have won a lottery they don't remember entering, they win a vacation to Europe, and so, being poor, they elect to take you and your older sister to do some sightseeing overseas, it doesn't take long after you all arrive for shit to go south, next thing you know, all of Europe is in the middle of a war that spans across the continent, it's a civil war between an Authoritarian Government wanting to institute a Socialist Police State, and their legions of "Anti-Fascist" shock troopers, actually mostly rich kids who want to be thought of as "good people" on the "right side of history" while also being allowed to do evil and savage shit to poor straight white people (and their allies) without repercussions, Foreigners who want to create their own Authoritarian State based upon their Race and Religion (which they believe can only be achieved by killing anyone of another race, another religion, or anyone who breaks one of their strange laws, even if done unknowingly or unwillingly), a third faction consisting of a very unstable alliance between literal neo-nazis and anarcho-capitalists (and those are the GOOD GUYS in this conflict), and a fourth faction, made up of Jewish Supremacists, seeking to take advantage of the chaos in order to enslave or kill anyone who is not Jewish, they have the support of the US and Israeli militaries, who make up the bulk of their forces, so you' be fighting against the forces of president Trump, who you hated before for being racist, and now hate for not being racist enough, all communications back to the US are cut, and all you see is the only faction that is both able and willing to help you being trashed for views that you'd once despised, but now see as entirely justified and even necessary, there are others who don't fall in with one of these factions, of course, but they are all completely ineffectual, some so have more sympathy for one of these factions than the other, however, but they are mostly spending their time getting the shit kicked out of them by the major players in the conflict as they plead for a return to how things used to be, as most of them idealize the past to the point of madness.
you are being hunted, by a totalitarian state and it's mob of crazy psychopaths, by a cult of fanatics for some foreign religion who want to sacrifice you to their desert god, and who hate you for your race, by a combination of the previous two, a shadowy cabal of some older and forgotten religion seeking to fulfill the prophecy of some ancient tome, and also hate you for your race, but also have two large, powerful, and well-organized militias at their beck and call.
Even the one group that isn't always trying to kill you on sight is at constant threat of a violent or bloody internal conflict, and is highly distrusting of you and each other, at some points, leading to you being attacked by their members, as well, some of the sickest freaks have joined their number as well, for example, people who want to enslave, degrade, rape, hurt, and kill women, such as your mother and sister, have infiltrated their numbers, basically acting as serial killers, others are like the leftists, they simply want to engage in horrific acts of cruelty while still being considered "good", simply by choosing a certain target demographic, that is, anyone who isn't a straight white male, some are also religious fanatics, such as christians, pagans, or atheists who want to take advantage of the chaos to kill off anyone outside their religion, others are schizophrenic in the most dangerous sense, and will target you for any number of reasons, but these are not the only types of freaks you'd find within the ranks of the safest of the factions.
Your goal is to get yourself and your family to find a way out of Europe, as all travel has been shut down, the other option being finding a way to survive the total chaos around you.
basically, I'm taking the worst of everything /pol/ fears and making it into a horror game, one devoid of any science-fiction or fantastical elements, but still one that manifests as a deadly nightmare.

I am talking about a breakthrough, not another instalment, a remake, a rehash or a remodel. While they attracted a lot of autists, the Five nights at freddy's games are actually quite well done. First game only does a scare if you failed, second game forces multi tasking, third game throws jumps at you more liberally, and the fourth game forces you to use your ears. Sister location is more of a visual novel and Pizza simulator is the final chapter to the story. Ultimate custom night is pretty goofy but it has quality to it. Webm is from ultimate custom night. The other goofy story is a story between samurai freddy going against feudal lord foxy with horrifically incorrect subtitles and increasingly silly terms to their showdowns

I'm going to answer this incorrectly because I'm so appalled at how shit this film was and need to vent: A Quiet Place. How could a movie get such high ratings and be that retarded?

A lifelong friend recommended it to me, and I'm considering never talking to him again. I knew the film was stupid 5 minutes in when the family that's trying to be super fucking quiet is letting a little 3 - 4 year old kid run around a store unattended and climbing on shelves. Even after he almost blows their cover twice they still leave him to his devices and let him trail 30 feet behind as they're walking single file.
And then it got dumber from there. I hope you take note of the people in your life that said it was good, and remember not to rely on them in an emergency.

I actually enjoy nightmares more than I should, I once woke up from a nightmare and while still being terrified though "God that was pretty cool", I don't remember what it was though.
I often have those weird dreams that are not nightmares but are on the brink of becoming ones. It feels like waiting for a jumpscare, I can often pinpoint the point where they can become nightmares but due to sheer luck or some decisions I made they don't. Like making the smart decision to not tell the yanderish obviously crazy and probably possesed girl that her ex-boyfriend left her with a baby that she no longer remembers due to sheer trauma. And then creepy shit keeps happening but it never turns against me, making it feel like one of those weird 90s Cyberpunk anime like Bebop of Lain.

Talking about nightmares, I went through alcohol withdrawal right after the end of october when I binge played horror games all month. If you don't know, booze suppresses dreams, and they come back with a vengeance when you sleep boozeless. So what I got was creative nightmares that were technically a mishmash of all the shit I had seen in the prior weeks, yet arranged in a disturbingly cinematic manner.
I mean it had perfect horror timing. An innocuous dream about the Royal Tenenbaums' Ben Stiller family making a mock evacuation, and then suddenly one of the kids explodes in a surreal ball dark lightning and a shriek absolutely out of this world. It's been a month and I still remember it vividly.
I also got dreams about being trapped with vengeful ghosts, again with otherworldly sounds, as well as terrifying diseases literally melting everyone at the supermarket. It sounds like something that would drive someone mad, but luckily I'm a mildly lucid dreamer and light sleeper - I can't control my dreams, but I can just wake up when they get out of hand. So I pretty much just got an encore on my halloween month with some unique scenes.

>slip the slow-ass punch like it's nothing
>punch it in the general throat area
>it gets stunned
>grab it around the waist
>lift it
>slam it into the wall until it stops moving
>suddenly remember that the years of training and lifting turned me from a weakass little shit into a towering hulk of a man
>start using smaller enemies to beat larger ones to death
>beat dogs to death with wooden planks i tore off the wood pallets in the room with the flashlight
