Path of Exile is a great game, and you dont have to spend a lot of money to play it if you don't want to. I have over 3000 hours played and I will still come back and make a character when they drop a new league. Some games are good and worth a little bit of money. Path of Exile is one of those games.

How long will that last though? No clue. They did just get bought out by Tencent, so it could go south rather quickly.

I played Grim Dawn a while ago, it was decent. But I wasn't really impressed because of the lack of depth. Classes were far too simplistic. I guess it's either autism tier node trees or nothing.

When you consider the source, and what it was created from (TQ, which was a dirt-tier, not only un-fun but anti-fun diablo clone), it's impressive what they made of it. Doesn't have a lot of longevity though, it's something you can reasonably finish on a few different characters inside a week. If you want something you can go hard in, for an extended period of time, Median XL.

Actually happened with me. I killed shaper without any problems and right after white pack oneshotted me in less than a second.

I dont think that game is balanced for SC, I think that game is not balanced at all. GGG usually claim that "things like that cant happen". And years later in patchnotes they mention fixing it.

For the average player, private leagues are at most a fancy group self found that you have to pay a sub for.
