6258fe No.15681196
I got a PS4 off a co-worker for free because it has issues with overheating. I figure cleaning out all the dust and applying some new thermal paste would fix it right up. I got my hands on a game to test how bad it really is only to discover there's apparently another issue with it: No audio. At least not through the TV, the controller plays audio bytes just fine. I checked my other systems using HDMI and they all work. Checked the PS4 audio settings, nothing out of the ordinary. Tested two different cables one of which was being used by one of my other systems which did have audio.
Anyone have any experience with this? Is it fixable or should I not waste my time and sell it for pocket change? System repair general too I guess.

Is there anything to be done about repairing a hdmi socket? I know very little about electronic repairs, but I always enjoy lurking the modding/repair generals regardless. Though like >>15681851 said everyman should know how to maintain and repair his stuff.
Is getting one of those soldering practicing kits useful, or I'm am just better off only getting one of those eletronic DIY packs and practicing with real appliances? My family have a shit load of disposable radios, controllers, and the like so I wouldn't be risking anything expensive or indispensible.
Also what the fuck is with the massive shitposting and derailment in this thread? None of the other modding/repair threads get shitposted this badly.

You can likely replace an HDMI socket, but it's not something that breaks easily. Unlike cellphones, where the micro USB socket gets torn up from hundreds of charge cord insertions. You normally just plug an HDMI cable in a handful of times over the life of the console. As for soldering, watch some tutorials on it, get a $15 firestarter iron and a spool of leaded solder. Then buy, scavenge, or otherwise locate some broken electronics to mess around with. Don't worry about making functional electronic connections, the molten metal will take care of that for you. Just get familiar with it and try to learn to make it neat.
