gotcha, so how long should I spend on a puzzle before I give up? I've had more than a few that I've been stumped on for something like 30 minutes, then I finally break down, look up the answer, and realize I would have never come to that conclusion. Still doesn't feel good giving up but I feel like I just haven't adjusted to the sort of thinking needed for these things. .

Another advice that I could give, is that you should think like an 8 year old, in that when you are faced with math questions or code breakers, you need to understand that the games were designed for 8 year olds, so you don't need to think of fancy math or thinking too abstract when faced with puzzles. I remember playing the first one on an emulator on my phone back in the last year of highschool with a friend, both of us smart and A students, and when we were faced with a puzzle such as:
>guess the letter that misses from the combination M T W _ F S S
We were fucking stumped, and tried to think of of obscure solutions of what could it possibly mean. We took the position of the letters in the alphabet to try and figure out a pattern, we tried even with the ASCII values. We tried inserting vowels, thinking that it's a word that is missing it's vowels, so if we can figure out the word, we can figure out what the missing letter is, and then some dumb kid looked at it for 10 seconds and said it's the initials for the days of the week. Though in our defense we aren't from an English speaking country.

it's also the worst layton game ever made (though the tweest still got me)
the best part of said game was the (japanese) voice acting, specifically Katori/Katrielle, she really sounded like a cute female layton (embed related)
then they changed her to some super popular seiyuu for the anime, pisses me off

you are using hint coins, right? in theory you should be able to figure everything out if you use them properly
Curious village is the hardest one IMO, you aren't as accustomed to the Layton style and neither are the devs, everyone involved is a little uncomfortable and I think that's the main reason it tends to be so tough

I’m surprised they would do that. Usually changing voice actors is sacrilege in nip land.
And yeah, I’ve been using the coins. There were still several puzzles that left me completely stumped, though others required some pixel perfect placement of a match or the answer was very subjective (such as the silhouette puzzle). The atmosphere, OST, and story are really great so far so I’ll push through it having the “first game” syndrome.

E is clearly lying, because if she was indeed telling the truth, and all of them would be lying, then she wouldn't be a liar which creates a paradox. This means that there must be at least 1 liar
By a similar logic, A cannot be saying the truth, because all of the four statemets contradict themselves, so that means that there must be more than one liar.
If all of the statements contradict themselves that means that only one of them is true, and knowing that E cannot be true, we can logically conclude that there are four liars in the room.
D is telling the truth.

All five are saying mutually exclusive statements, so one would be the obvious answer. If they were talking in response to each other ("one of us is lying because only one of us has spoken so far") then it would be a proper layton puzzle.
Alternatively, the police *shouldn't* release any suspect because they *want* to.

The game is episodic like Layton 6, and that again was a real weakness to it. The title talks about "the millionaire's conspiracy" which is the last case in the game, but it's only like the last 8% of the game or so, and everything else is this bullshit about finding lost cats and that sort of thing, without any real motivation to do so like in the other games.
So now, for the BIG spoilers,
her servant-companion beta-orbiter almost-romantic-interest is the villain
his last name GREEVES hints at the fact he's this vengeful orphan kid
