It's basically a glorified brochure. The MC visits Japan so you don't have to, and is guided by two different sisters who tell you about different areas around Tokyo. The one you develop relations for is determined by whichever one you spent more time with. The VN doesn't bother telling who will guide you where, so you'll randomly find out based on whatever areas around the city you want to see. There isn't really any character development either since it's not a focus of the game.

Finished Song of Saya a few days ago. Thought it was very good. Fuminori was a good protagonist, as was Kouji. My one complaint is that we never see what happened at the hospital when Dr. Ogai brought the mutated rats and whatever, only told by Ryouko. I also thought that some more scenes about what happened with her would be good as well. I'm now starting Kara no Shoujo.

12th highest popular VN on VNDB. Playing it made me feel like I have a close set of friends again. The set up is quite good, you play as Yamato, who styles himself as a 'tactician' meaning he relies on intellect and favors from other people. The setting is Kawakami city, where the 'samurai girls' are the all powerful heroines and compete to be the strongest in the land, Momoko being no.1 of course.
The girls themselves are top tier. It's like Grisaia in that you can argue who's bad or good but they're all really fleshed out with personalities, at least the main 5. The comedy is pretty hilarious, take Kazuki here, they've trained her like a dog so when you blow a dog whistle she appears. Tries and runs away from homework but you blow the whistle and she comes back. The Seiyuus are all really prestigious. Miyako's VA Yokote Kumiko has been in Muv-Luv, Bunny Black and Saya no Uta for instance. Oh, It'll also ask you for your birthday. That's because every character will pop up wishing you a happy birthday.
As for the girl's themselves, you've got Christine who's a tsun, Kazuko who's like a little sister and naive on adult matters, Momoyo who treats Yamato like a little brother and has objectively the best path in the Kawakami war. How do you earn the respect of a God of War by beating them in battle? Yuikie who's the Yamato Nadeshiko and who can't say no to Yamato and his lewd requests she's quite the pervert herself. and Miyako who deredere for Yamato and on several routes if you express interest in her, she'll put up and lock down the D.
And that's just the main game. There's also Majikoi S that introduces 5 new heroines like Kokoro here and has them play out. There's also afterstories for all the girls which I recommend.
Only downsides I'd say is that the jokes can drag on a bit and S is more focused on sex than an actual plot but I would say it's worth the time investment. Kawakami war is up there in Angelic Howl in routes that absorbed me and I thoroughly liked.
Do Miyako's path last however, makes sense in context. I did it first and felt a bit guilty afterwards.

I'd like to add that the group of friends actually feels like a group of friends. Once you enter a girl's route, the rest of the cast doesn't just disappear. I know this is going to sound weird but, what makes Majikoi great is the male cast. You have too many eroges where it's just the MC and his harem and maybe sometimes his best buddy. It feels completely off putting. In Majikoi, even after the MC starts dicking the girls, he still hangs out with his friends, he still talks to other people, he's still part of the world. I flipped through the tag a bit and eventually settled on Heartful Maman, though Boku no Elf Onee-san looked pretty good too. I trid to avoid things that looked like obvious nukige garbage. Maman is Alicesoft and thus has more clout but don't they usually partner up with Mangagamer (or was it JAST?) I wouldn't want to waste a recommendation if there is no real chance of it happening. Boku Elf looked great too, but it seems like it shares characters with Taimanin Asanagi and I haven't read that, so I'm certain enjoyment would be cut a bit due to that.

I read a ton of manga already. VNs offer voice acting, music, and sound effects do heighten the experience. When it's not just a kinetic novel, you can have choices too which adds more to it. You don't have to deal with the shitty ending where best girl loses. Beyond that you have VNs with gameplay.
Overall it's more of a preference thing. If you don't mind reading in silence and imagining your own voices, manga is a great alternative. Saying that, you can turn off voices in a VN if you cared to.

Tsugumi's. Good ending has Blick Winkle take control of Takashi and makes him swim to a cryo next to Coco. He freezes himself and wakes up when the Tief has been naturalized by Cure. It's a reason Tsugumi didn't want to give it to anyone as it'd stop people aging like her, Takashi is essentially immortal and You grew for a bit but stopped in her late 20s, which is why she needed a clone to replace her in 2034.

Obvious spoilers for the main plot.
Pretty much. Coco was the first person infected with Tief Blau but it eventually spread to the rest in 2017. To counteract it, they found out Tsugumi had Cure in her, which not only could neutralise any virus by replacing dead cells in the body, it would also turn a person immortal as instead of their cells dying and not being replaced as they got older, Cure would manufacture new ones and over a process of 5 - 7 years, every cell in their body would be 'Cured'. So they used Tsugumi's blood and injected it into themselves. Unfortunately, Coco's virus was more advance, so they had to freeze her to let Cure do it's job. You and Kid caught the rescue sub that was sent down and Takeshi and Tsugumi went up in the mini sub. Takeshi had to get out of course. Coco's dog Pipi carried up Sora's data disk so she could be saved as well. Takeshi. During the gap in time, YuuHaru creates a clone of herself for 2034 and hatches a plan to get a 4th dimensional person involved to save Takeshi and Coco, she stops aging and she's the person who YouAki talks to. Kid stops aging and takes the place of Takeshi in You's plan. Tsugumi has Sara and Hokuto, both have diluted forms of Cure however, Sara can see the light reflected off the locket and Hokuto has the last piece embedded in a finger. Sora has her mind temporarily erased so she's like she was in the 2017 accident I think. So Coco is loli forever, Takeshi and Tsugumi will have each other as Sara and Hokuto age, Kid's out of luck chasing Coco and YouHaru got to be a mother to YouAki.

Canvas 2 has the same protag as the first Canvas but it continues off the bad end where he doesn't hook up with anyone, you don't really need to know anything since the references are very slight and Canvas 2 is better than the prequels and sequels. Kazoku Keikaku is alright, despite my bashing of the selection of girls and what their routes contain. I managed to sit through all the routes without feeling like my time was wasted Except the H-scenes are kinda awful. If I had to rank the routes I'd go Aoba, Jun, Matsuri, Chunhua, Masumi, highest to lowest. I like Matsuri but I feel like her route is the shallowest and has to be carried by cute.
Hoshizora no Memoria is one of the better SoL VN's I've read through, if you want an honest recommendation, but there are some censored versions of the fan patch floating around because it was made by Aussies and they hate freedom so loli is banned. There's also Edelweiss I liked and it has a lot of scenes with good illustration, but it suffers from a bit of sameface. I also recommend Yume Miru Kusuri, and to a lesser extent, Dengeki Stryker and Snow Sakura.

That is exactly the problem Light was saying about Sony. He essentially mentioned that they need to get people who speak Japanese so they do not waste time trying to figure out what can and can not happen.
