I wanted to play a couple of Japanese exclusive Wii games, and started looking for ways around the region locking.

I found a disc called the Free Loader for the Nintendo Wii. Supposedly all you have to do is insert this disc, then wait for it to do a thing, then insert the game you want to play.

One problem is, it cannot guarentee that any newer updates for the Wii firmware will work with the freeloader. Does anyone know if the newer updates break the Wii Free Loader or not?

Yes. Updates break the Free Loader.

I had this when Brawl came out in the US and a few months later in Europe. I updated the Wii once with a game that required an update (I think it was Animal Crossing: City Folk) and it stopped woorking after that.

If i reset my Wii, will the firmware reset with it, or is it stuck with the new firmware?

Why aren't you just soft modding your wii, it's retardedly easy at this point.

I can't remember too well, it was over 10 years ago. You'll have to find it on your own from some ancient gaming forum Anon.

>>15641142

You should do what this Anon says. Modding a Wii is extremely easy these days.

I could be wrong, but shouldn't a loader like Nintendont allow for avoiding region lock on non-physical games (IE: pirated)? Also, what >>15641142 says. Wii's easy as fuck to mod and expand your utility with; look up letterbomb.

alright.

Just use letterbomb and the region free launcher homebrew

Also rip ALL of your gamecube games while you're at it. You'll thank me later.

Can you expand the memory of the Wii hardrive?

You can use an external one

Nintendo patched the game, not only in the firmware, but i believe they've also modified certain PAL exclusive games, like Disaster day of crisis to recognize it as well.

The drive itself, not to my knowledge. There's an SD card slot to boost capacity, but I think for running a CFW system and loaders it's easier to use USB external storage. SD has it's uses (you need one for letterbomb to begin with, and you can store a lot of roms for fourth and fifth gen on even a 2-3gb card), but for disc based games, you really need something bigger, once the games start getting into gigabytes.
