I respect the fact they put up the good fight in trying to bring these games but as someone who played through Senran EV, I wouldn't say their translation work is good. They take a very liberal approach as if "carrying the tone" is all that's needed. A good example would be Shiki who talks in very broken english but instead of using all caps, brackets or italic they translated it as french even when she's clearly speaking english. I guess they wanted people to not get a freakin' word of what she's saying, well, then congrats, it "carried the tone".

XSEED is a very small company that lives and dies based off preorders according to what their executive VP said about this here:

With the Sony censorship, there were a lot of people across comment sections and forums and social media everywhere announcing they were cancelling their preorders for the new Senran game. If XSEED were losing money very badly, like any company is wont to do they might lay off people since that's one of the easiest and quickest ways to recoup losses, though of course its not ideal at all. I think that's what happened here.
2 people is effectively 12% of XSEED's staff, and even more (something like 17% or so, if you take out the QA testers (not even sure if those are real jobs lmao)). Doing that on the same day is ludicrous, with Brittany being a high-ranking localization producer and a well-known public face, and Tom being a localization producer and also a well-known public face. I have to wonder what's going on.
Not only this, but this means they have no localization producers left, just a lead and a coordinator, at least judging by the credits of a recently translated Falcom game.

That said video games are a global market now. There will still be a market for good localizations. The industry may burn but the ashes will bring fertile fields. Sony's Interactive Entertainment headquarters moved from Japan to California in 2016. Sony is not Japanese anymore but their new Americanized policies are effecting the Japanese branch. They just censored a Japan only VN on the PS4 beyond how it was already censored for the Vita which had already been released.

Afraid gofundme or kickstarter isn't an option for independent companies anymore. There has been too many burns with people scamming money from donors and running away with it. If anything publishers buy stocks in indies in return to promote their kickstarter now to gauge "interest" in the product. And I fear soon there's going to be new government laws and policies that will crackdown on kickstarter scammers who fail to produce their products as promised that will screw over the honest little guy looking to start up.
It's going to go back to the old days of having to finding private investors or publicly trading stocks in order to start a sizeable company unless you manage to get that one miracle product off of the ground to fund everything else you need. I know anons here would be interested but I have no interest in selling anons a concept without proof my products exist immediately.
So if I want to get into English to Japanese localization and then Japanese publishing: First I have to make games I can self publish on my own to grow the company. Then I need to use those profits to make other projects and hopefully expand into the Japanese game market. And then if Japan likes my games and their smaller devs want to get a shot at the western publishing I'll open up a localization branch so we can work out deals on translation and marketing budgets for western releases.
I'm looking at this to be a 10 year project at least if I pull it off. Hopefully in 10 years SJWs burned localization to the ground that smaller devs no longer trust big corporations to localize their games. Worst case scenario is we will now have government mandated region locking thanks to new laws EU's article 11 and 13 appearing at the time. Though frankly that's another topic for another thread.
Making localizations great again is not going to be easy. Nor will it be a short term project with fast results. The best way to make localizations great again if companies refuse to listen to their consumers is to start our own and prove to these companies we can do better than them. The problem then comes down to funding and production time and cost because this isn't a blue ocean. We are going to be out-competed if we dove into localization right now. But give it 5-10 years and video games will be as dead as comic books if Sony goes full Disney/Marvel. In fact I'd like to make my own comics on the side too (anything but capeshit though mostly because it's not my preferred genre) to help fill in that niche in the market. Spread out the entertainment company to become a general multi-media company and maybe we can publish manga and license toys too.

I've seen this a little bit but I thought it was just a generic anime community thing. I've seen a lot of that. I personally drop shows I'm not interested in early on, and while I'm aware some of my favorites or shows I'm watching for a season can be very flawed I think there's only so much value to derive out of that.
Just as an example I lost interest in slime isekai early on, I thought the moment where the dragon became tsundere was hilarious. Then they pointed out how he was being tsundere and I thought it was stupid to point that out, it was obvious and funny on its own. Then I watched Zombie Land Saga and the gags in there are so breakneck by comparison they don't have time to waste explaining it. It sets up a premise and delivers on it scene after scene without treating you like an idiot.
That's all I'd have to say about Slime Isekai while pointing out what I picked up in its stead. I don't see much value in just hating something, but finding what things succeed at and enjoying it for that reason. That's just me personally. Sorry if this seems off topic, I've wanted to share my thoughts for a little while.
