Redux is much more stealth dependent. It was always easy mode in 2033 but it was straight-up a requirement in Redux. I also seem to remember much more locational damage in 2033 - shooting off an enemy's extra ammo from their chest rig, shooting off their gas mask, etc

They changed the lighting in various areas of the game, a few were improved, others were so so and the rest were downgraded hard, most of the cutscenes got remade to be always on first person. The entire UI was changed to be more similar to Metro Last Light, added some features from MLL, improved AI, improved physics, improved controls, bugfixes more difficulty options.

Overall Redux is better though the original stills has its own undeniable charm. Play it on ranger. And just in case you ask Last Light Redux is LL with all the DLC.

The games share some DNA because a good chunk of the devs of the original Stalker got tired of Segei's BS and went to become 4A games to create the Metro series. Much like Stalker is based on Roadside Picnic, Metro is based on the Metro series of books, they even got the books' author to write for the games. Both are slav shooters, both have the slav patented grimy depressing atmosphere to them but aside from that they don't have much in common. The only time Metro ever tries to be like Stalker (or more like a Roadside Picnic game to be honest) is in 1 mission of Last Light's DLC. So >>15638670 is either baiting or a fucking idiot.

That being said it seems like Metro Exodus will be less linear so will see.

No because in a sense comparing both franchises is kinda stupid, despite some of their similarities. Metro is a linear story driven experience, it's more concerned with telling you a well written story and showing you its world, characters & themes. Stalker is open, you are nobody in its world, it's all about the zone and the stories you make & experience there and while the world still has its lore and mysteries those ain't the center focus of the experience, plus the game is harder so your DS comparison is earned.

I like both series but Stalker is certainly more replayable but my point is; Can a linear story driven experience be compared to an open player driven one and it's one inherently superior to the other?

Metro has many many problems, one big one is the game gives you the ability to stealth to bad once you shoot one guy everyone around you knows where the fuck you are, another big complaint is the hit box's actually worse than and Stalker game, I would shot guys in the head and I can't tell you how many times I missed because of dumb shit. The cover system works for ememy's not for you, behind a wall of cover but your head is slightly out, get head shoted faggot, but the ememy is doing the same thing, nope sorry there fully behind cover and fuck you. Want to shoot though a opening in rail, nope fuck you, invisible wall. The enemy's are boring as shit, not even good bandits. The game is buggy as fuck and I can't tell you how many fucking time I had to use grenades to get out of most situations and the lack of anyway to save makes it really fucking fun to start all the way from a fucking checkpoint. You rarely ever went the surface in the game and the game constantly baby's you by forcing you stick with someone else holding your hand, fuck there are parts in the game where's better to have npc's kill all the monsters because it's better for to save ammo. It's a fucking joke. Not mention the light and texture make everything look fucking horrible and you need night vision to see fucking anything.

Tldr:>Game has bad stealth

>Hitbox's are bad

>Cover favors the enemy's and not you.

>Rarely ever get to see any of the surface parts

and when you do there usually so short that doesn't matter.

Unless you like linear-first-person shooters, you really aren't missing out by much. I read the book and loved it, then tried to play 2033 and didn't care for it at all. I wasn't impressed by the gunplay, there were invisible walls everywhere, and fucky balance if I remember right (I was probably playing on the hardest difficulty, mind you). The only thing I really liked about the game was the atmosphere it achieved in a couple areas, particularly the very beginning.
