I remember a couple threads about anon's talking about Mobile Suit Gundam Online. It features 100 player battles with mission objectives similar to the good Battlefront games, with the mech combat making the death match combat satisfying. It's a region-locked game, so you'll have to go play it through a proxy, iirc. the community still appears to be active, as well.

I've never actually played this myself, It just got stuck in my head from the few threads talking about it, and the gameplay looking really fun

Right, the one anon that posted it here. Lemme break down the game as best as I can.

For starters, it's JP only, the shitty chink infested HK version isn't, but it also loses that EFSF/EFF vs Zeon aspect and just becomes factionless team fight. I use mudfish to play the JP version and have since 2013 when this shit came out. you do have to pay for mudfish, but it's pay per bandwidth used and since it can be set for a per application thing, 3 USD lasts you half a year. it has full VPN capabilities, but you don't need that for MSGO, just the application tunneling. A few JP nodes are outright blocked, but those are the obvious ones (the google and amazon ones).

The current game as it is, I would caution people as right now the RX-0 is big on EFF and recently they decided a few "cross over" event suits would be a good idea, the first one was the crossbone X-1 and X-2 units, X-1 for EFF and X-2 for Zeon respectively. right now at higher ranks and even below you'll find these fuckers everywhere mixed in with the sinanju/RX-0 and whatnot.A lot of the skill is being sucked out of the game I feel because the power creep has hit levels that are really bad, the RX-0 itself is capable of 2 shotting most OYW zeon suits easily. Sinanju not as much, and I think the zook/beam rifle combo shot is gold BP only for sinanju.

There is a gacha system, and before you start screaming let me explain. The system is broken into a few sub-categories. GP, DX, EX and Daily. GP is Game Points, the stuff you earn by playing. DX is the cash money gasha, EX is the Event Gasha and of coruse daily is what it sounds like. a daily gasha you get one ticket a day for and resets at the end of each week after maintenance. Despite being the "cash" gasha, DX tickets are piss easy ot get outside of paying, doing challenges, be it personal, or clan net you them. you cna trade in 15 daily play tickets (you get 1 per day after the first match of the day) and for the 15 you get 2 DX tickets. They also drop in events or can be traded in for event items. DX gashas also differ from GP as they have a finite number of items, so you WILL eventually (if your luck is shit) get the featured suit(s) from a given DX gasha. I could write more but I don't want to devote a chunk to this.

The current ranking system is probably the best it'll get. Your rank can go up, even if your team loses, if you did well (got a lot of kills, didn't die often, did a lot of objectives). Granted you do lose poitns for losing (but gain points for winning) Your personal score either suppliments or offsets what was won/lost/ The older systems were fucking horrible and you could be stuck in shitty silver hell because you'd have to get X amount of points to get a set of challenges for a "promotion", then complete one of those 3 challenges in a single match. If you failed that you had to get the points again, failing to get the points meant you were given 3 challenges of your rank and failing THOSE deranked you. Right now this system is the best and if it was there at the start when tere was just grunt suits, the top pilots would be crazy levels of good.

There's a stagger system in the game which keeps units from charging in.

Yeah, also the game is UC only.

in MA form you consume your boost gauge. if it bottoms out you revert to MS mode, if you're boosting and then transform you go a bit faster than a standing transformation and boosting. You're forced back to MS mode if you collide with a solid object, be it ground or another MS. in MA form you are also more vulnerable to knockdown.

Those Blue Destiny games for Saturn are pretty cool once you get the hang of slide-dashing around

No EN patch exists, translations do and there IS a horribly outdated EN wiki. Still somewhat useable, though some redditor had a melt down and plastered his bronze ass all over it calling himself the messiah.

When the game first came out the two biggest EN groups were 4chan's /m/ board and SA's. The two groups existed for awhile and then the two clans started having members drop off due to the patches and whatnot. For some reason the two groups didn't make a new clan, the remaining /m/ people decided to merge with SA's group. the problem is SA faggots are special snowflakes and one guy from /m/ as removed for saying "evening niggers" in clan chat. This upset 2 whole people and the acting head at the time was a pissy little girl.

both groups are dead now and the SA group ended up bleeding over to /m/ and treated it like their own personal free forum and let in shtters. a lot of these faggots would even shut dwon attempts to revive the /m/ group (on /m/) because "it's dead"

Originally it was a draw of "you are the faceless grunt of your respective faction fighting on battlefields from the OYW from the show and games", back then there were no super prototypes, no gundam types for feds. strictly grunt suits.

There are translations, just not translation patches. there is a JP wiki that you cna run through google translate and get a idea of what they do.

problem is window is a fighting game, MSGO is more a TPS. A bit of the old idea is still there, you aren't the special snow flake that will kill all his enemies. Charging into a enemy battle line is a good way for people watching you to gun you down. Granted now with the power creep what it is, if you have The O for example you can tank the damage with your "shield" and then pop awakening mode, fills your gauge back up while it eats away at HP. It's a limiter release with guaranteed death at the end of it, but good for burst damage. You'll have moments where you're pretty much dug in and either keeping the enemy from pushing towards your base, or helping a push yourself or even delivering a bomb to either blow a hole in the defensive line or take a chunk out of the enemy's base. small skirmishes aren't uncommon, but generally you'll see the majority of fighting at major choke points or using the terrain as barricades while both sides take pot shots at each other.

As for gacha, if you play PSO2 you already know nip mentality in that "work hard for what you want". Granted PSO2 has shit like arks cash so can't cry about microtransactions when they lock even player trading behind the paywall.

That being said MSGO does like PSO2 does, it throws shit at you if you play. I recently made a zeon pilot on the 2nd server, Francesca and you get a fair bit of stuff when you start out (including a gold BP for a geara doga). The suits you get at start also seems to have changed, Zeon gets YMS-14 (Char), MS-06S, MS-06R-3S and a MS-06F as their base MS. So off the bat you have some reliable suits. When I started the suits didn't even have their bonus modules, you had to actually build copies of the suits to get those and you started with crappier stuff (though back at launch it was all on par with what EFF had). back then you started with a few Zakus, a zaku worker, and a zaku tank.

Again I've been playing since this game came out. I've jumped through those hoops simply because I love gundam and when it first came out that appeal of being just another soldier for zeon was great. A lot of the game has changed over the years, for better and worst. again at least use WTFast and give it a shot.

You can't really "win" with the meta suits. If you're trash you're going to get picked hard. you also can't outright buy suits, gascha shit ensures this. you pay for a chance to eventually get a suit. Then you have to upgrade it and equip it right. THEN you have to actually learn how to properly use the suit. You can buy enough DX tickets to eventually get The O from the pick-up gascha, but relying on it's strength itself is a good way to fail. There have been times I've seen a The O in awakened mode being hit with a cold climate dom's net gun, being slowed and then being mowed the fuck down. You have to remember when you pop awakening mode your HP starts to drain. So it drains on topof the damage being dealt by the enemy MS shooting at it.

Musou is trash because its brain dead gameplay. Even GAS and GBU do better combat than musou.

MSGO made you into something most games didn't, the average soldier. when it first came out, the only time you saw the gundam or anything like it was the AI controlled "aces" that the commander could order around, usually having them act as rear guards. the aces have high HP, can waste you and made you feel like you truly were a small fish with bigger ones lurking ready to fuck you up.

MSGO's gacha isn't like shitty phone app ones, the DX gachas have a definitive bottom to the well and you get tickets to use it thrown at you for even starting up the game. The real way you procure suits is from the GP shop. DX is for the latest hot shit really and nothing more, whether it's good or not is debatable. GP gacha is if you have GP to burn and currently have suits you're good with. Again maybe it's just me having played for years now, but gacha, at least in MSGO is such a side thing complaining about it is autistic. With how the system drops shit for you left right and center, combined with the events (like the one now that GIVES you good suits for simply playing) it's really a non-issue for MSGO.

You'd have a point if it was a defacto way to obtain suits. but MSGO is in that state where it seems every week there is an event that gives you suits. For a game that's F2P there is surprisingly little in the way of cash shop or even P2W elements. Can't even outright buy suits with money, only rentals which last 20 runs and then are done. The sure fire way really to get suits in this game is the BP shop and those are all bought with game points. It's pretty much where most of the suits end up anyways. Neither of the gachas really matter if you're decent and seeing how new zeon players get a gelgoog right off the bat (char's no less) you're pretty much going to be in a viable position even with what you're given to start with.

It varies.

DWG 2 has a handful of stages specific to each characters, in addition to joining factions like the Titans and White Base via developing friendships with characters from those factions.

DWG 3 has an original storyline divided into factions that then unify into one faction involving everyone.

DWGR has many much smaller plotlines that kinda tread each series, but with changes in the characters that act in them, for example instead of the colonies sponsoring a Gundam Fight, the Titans play that role instead. Gato steals the GP02 and nuke not for the Delaz Fleet, but instead for Full Frontal's Sleeves faction, etc.

IBO is extremely slow and nothing comes of it's sub plots. The ending is also the most pozzed ending in all of Gundam. The only surviving couple is a black man and a blonde woman. The love triangle is resolved by killing the man and having the other two get married and raising his kid. If you're into that kind of shit then sure, best Gundam ever. If you're not it's like playing a JRPG where you only see the side quests and no main story.

Don't watch all of Wing, your memories are better than the series. Almost half the show is them stagnating and nothing changing. Wing Zero takes characters from Episode 1 to Episode 50 development wise. Other than Duo everyoenes just boring and does nothing outside of repeating their catch phrases.

Wing is better as an additional series in SRW than on it's own. An elite team of Gundam spies makes them useful to the plot and their units are pretty good depending on what gap you need filling.

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to turn MegaMek into a Gundam game if you spec'd out each MS, and it holds potential for combined arms from infantry to starships, and even MA.

You can even rewrite assignment tables and factions for Against The Bot campaigns, resulting in a potential for a very interesting game of combat/salvage/repair similar to the original UC anime story.
