Ghost Master. Game about using ghosts to spook mortals.
Unfortunately its less than half-finished due to the publisher going bankrupt mid-development and forcing the devs to tie up loose ends so they can release it for a few last sheckels.
Still very good though despite the balance issues, bugs out the ass, and absolute fuckloads of cut content.

That game looks awesome, I've still yet to play it but I managed to download it. I may play it on Halloween night, actually. The sprites looks so fucking detailed. I also happened to check out the anime from 2008 and it's pretty good. I never knew much about the franchise until I first learned about the PS1 game but I like how lighthearted the show is. It's got a great Halloween atmosphere and tone.

It was really good before they patched out this insane bug where when nightvision was on the game also counted the mic being on, and when you actually turn the mic on it adds more drain on batteries. There were some fucking terrifying moments where you had to fiend like a crack whore for a battery for some of the darkest sections. The school segments somehow managed to be scary albeit well lit. The lore is accessable now due to the patch, but I like it being unrelated to 1 on the surface.

The game plummets when that Batman reject captures you and locks you in the wheelchair. Then it started being frustrating to constantly have to run and hide, which is the last thing a horror game should do. Once a horror game starts eliciting emotion other than fear, tension, apprehension etc. it can't win you back.
The concept is awesome and as you said the first couple of hours absolutely nail it. They should throw in a combat mechanic, combat does wonders for a horror game. Scarcity of ammo, weak weapons, having to look at the evil you're fighting for prolonged time, amped up audio to make it more unsettling. Outlast would have benefited immensely from being able to fight most of the enemies. Also they should have worked in a little bonus where you can watch your recording.

I just started playing Darkest Dungeon because of this thread and JESUS CHRIST…
1. Am I just supposed to keep throwing characters into the meat grinder so I can get the relics to upgrade buildings?
2. Toss out characters that build up too many defects because it's not very cost effective to have them treated?
3. These dungeons are leveling up with me, right? As I clear them they are getting tougher? Are the more powerful new recruits I get from upgrading my buildings going to be able to clear them or am I fighting a losing battle here?

Hell Chaos is a joke. It suffers from the fact that the game is a meatgrinder in the first place and they don't expect anyone to get to the final battle. Biggyman is much harder and the fight vs the Cross in the Church is interesting and Monster Jen is probably the best one.
Splatterhouse 2 is pretty cool. Splatterhouse 3 is not very fun.It's more of a beat-em-up. High difficulty just makes the foes damage sponges. You also can get the best ending on the easiest difficulty so don't bother upping the difficulty. That said, it has some great spooks and creepy imagery.

I thought it was a good game, at least the first one. The second one was very limiting and deaths were planned out instead of you planning if they live or die from playing them in the first game. It's like the Faculty, the movie that had Usher in it, and if it was made into a game.
Also, The Suffering which was more Hollywood style horror action game. Again, the first one was better than the sequel. One thing I liked is that it had narration for these pages about monsters encountered by this one guy. I mention this because I rarely see this done in modern games, they either make you read this side dialogue yourself or do video logs that feel like nothing someone would record on purpose. Also has a morality system with a picture where if you do certain things to prisoners you meet along the way, it could change the ending.

Yeah, Toms story is very sad, and yet the amount of love people have for this man thanks to his beautiful piano playing is even more touching. Genuinely brings tears to my eyes how one seemingly otherwise simple man could have such a profound impact on the world around him. I knew about his music but learned about the accident a few years back when I suggested /v/ tried to play through Super Ghouls and Ghost. Now, whenever October rolls around I start to think about how Tom is doing. Thanks to that dum thread Super Ghouls and Ghost has become my favorite video game because it reminds me of how cool Tom is. Tom being a humble man who still despite this tragedy managed to have tapped into something transcendent.
