Atelier Mysterious Trilogy was also so fucking bad because old gameplay elements from previous games (such as synthesize a bigger bag to gather more items) were cut into DLCs, artstyle was a downgrade, and the world setting wasnt as interesting. Sophie had no alternate endings (unlike Arland and Dusk) and Atelier Firis was open-world crap.

Honestly, I'm all for an Atelier Iris Collection on Vita but since Sony has announced to stop production of the system somewhere in 2019, I highly doubt this will ever happen Ar Tonelico I & II on Vita would have been good too, but those are from Banpresto (thus owned by Bamco), and Banpresto hasnt shown a sign of activity in the vidya industry since 2015

Where to fucking start. So, NoA 2 was knocked back at least 8 months from it's original release date because Gust needed more time with it.
When it was released, collector editions were half price in a week because they wern't selling and Japanese players rejected it.
Finally get a chance to play it.
Someone called Moon Queen, a totally stronger demon THAN THE BLOODY NIGHT LORD THAT BROUGHT THE NIGHTS INTO THE WORLD IN THE FIRST PLACE fought with Arnice who's the new Night Lord after bathing in all that blue blood and absorbing his essence from Ludegert. She gets bitched slapped, memories stolen and Moon Queen takes saps Arnince's powers. She goes crazy and disappears into the night and Lilysse gets somewhere safe. Cue to Aluche, who's a new Knight for the Curia, she gets killed and saved by Camilia, who's one of the better new additions. Liliana, the Bride of Time, she's to be offered up to Moon Queen in order to seal her away, sound familiar? Anyway, when the full moon is covered in shadow, you lose the game and now you have to spend time looking for Liliana, doing some side quests and doing flower events but since you have limited time, you maybe can do one full event before NG+ where you get infinite time to see all events.
Anyway, What I liked about 1 was that Arnice was walking this line between demon and human, had literal purple blood from being a mutt, her relationship with Lilysee had some very good moments, Arnice herself in battle was fragile at the start but once you get some good summons you can just let them do all the work. There's a growth in power when you pop demon form and go up in levels. There's a sense of progression while you're making your way through the city each night and you get pulled through it with what Arnice needs to do next.
In NoA 2, Aluche is a mutt of the bat, what made Arnice unique from being born human but absorbing so much blood she became a half blood to full on blue blood demon at the end is what made her unique. Camilia just injected blue blood into Aluche and bam, already as powerful as Arnice. She's not the only one, Veruschka is one of Cami's earlier failed experiments. The various Lily events between characters are really superficial since Aluche's not going after any girl apart from Lily but even those events can't bee deep due to plot reasons. In battle, you bring a girl along to farm relationship points and two summons this time. Against some harder enemies you'll be hitting them a few times before they go down. It really becomes boring and doesn't have the fun of using your summons to clear an area. There's no sense of progression either, as you're just waiting time till you do the story mission or fail, the areas get quite boring here you have an abandoned academy, the woods and a town with canals, while in 1 you had an opera house, a baron's garden, a carnival and my favorite a market at night. They used doors and bricks for the wallpaper on the walls that gives it an illusion of being populated. Aluche being a mutt can't even use a demon form.
2 comes down to just clearing area after area to the same music while 1 has the beautiful ascetic and has an actual sense of progression, each night is a new objective to push forward.
Lily events of Arnice in 2 is calming her down from her rage because the Moon Queen made Arnice think she killed Lilysee. She eventually gets a letter that says Liliysee is somewhere safe.
Ending of NoA 2 is when Aluche died, Lilia was kidnapped by the Moon Queen but the Night was already spreading so held her in place while Aluche gained strength to defeat her in the present time. But turns out that version of the Moon Queen that was the final boss was just a figment of Liliana's dream. Aluche and Liliana encase the Moon Queen in a time prison with themselves inside it. And that's the ending. All that effort and they're just gone.
30 hours first play through, 40 hours second to get all events and see true ending. Was not worth it. The whole game does feel like a side story rather than a true sequel and adding in nerfed Arnice was just an insult. Good news is they have a hook for NoA 3 if they decide to make it but I don't know if Gust will do another "Beautiful Girls Festival" project considering how poorly NoA 2 sold. Which is a shame because while NoA and Blue Relfection have flaws, they have beautiful ascetics .
In short, play 1 skip 2.

These games are shit. I enjoyed Atelier Iris on PS2. Later I emulated Atelier Iris 2 and 3. Each one had somewhat more interesting combat and alchemy, but was worse is every other way. In Atelier Iris 2 the story and characters got bland, the world map turned into Super Mario World with no encounters, the side content shrank significantly, sprite quality and art direction diminished, music was worse, fucking everything. I still finished it. In Atelier Iris 3, all these things got even worse. In addition, the world map was now gone. Instead you had one fucking hub town, the surrounding area, and portals throughout town leading to cramped pocket dimensions that you complete on a timer. I didn't finish it.
I had heard the cutesy games that came later in the series were nothing like the Atelier games, which were considered an aberration for the franchise, so I decided to try out one of them hoping for cute alchemy fun. I can't remember which one I tried. Probably something from 2010-2014. It had actually continued in the direction of Atelier Iris 3 and I soon dropped it. There were also terrible control issues. Anons had said that the cutesy games had gotten worse and more barren in many regards in the latest releases, so I can only imagine how fucking terrible they must be at this point.
Norn a cute.

You play as a girl who is faced with a crisis in her life and the only way to fix it is to learn alchemy. You walk around, gather ingredients, beat up monsters, socialize with characters and make things explode.
In terms of gameplay I would describe them as a mix of JRPG and visual novel, with a heavy emphasis on crafting. Why a visual novel? Alot of the things that happen in this game are tied to being in a certain spot at a certain time, so the story will progress differently depending on how you approach the game. There are several different endings, most of them being focused on a certain party member after leveling them up and triggering their events sufficently but of course theres also a true ending. So it's absolutely a game which will take you multiple playthroughs, and through that you find way to perform tasks more efficiently, which is really satisfying
