I wish the devs were more open about releasing population statistics. Even if it were anonymous, data on usage and win/loss ratios with a given weapon/stage/rank/ranked mode would be a valuable resource, if for nothing more than getting a rough estimate for weapon viability in certain situations. ShitNet exists, but is practically limited to you and top-ranking players when it comes to Ranked, and trying to collect data one person at a time would be tedious as all hell.

Mont-Saint-Michel = 293000 p or 2.93e+5 p
Meanwhile, the actual area of those landmarks are given as follows:
Yosemite Valley = 15380000 m^2 or 1.538e+7 m^2
Central Park = 3410000 m^2 or 3.41e+6 m^2
Monaco = 2020000 m^2 or 2.02e+6 m^2
Mont-Saint-Michel = 970000 m^2 or 9.7e+5 m^2
Through a series of painful calculations, I was able to estimate the conversion ratio at about 3.30627(22) m^2/p (so 1p is about 36 square feet) using these numbers. Note that these four landmarks were the only ones whose conversion factors were completely consistent with each other: the others seemed to have some discrepancies with calculating the exact area (for example, finding the right number for the surface area of Frankfurt U-Bahn depends completely on the height they used for their calculations).
I fired the .96 gal at the ground 5 times and got 12p, giving me an average of about 2.4p per shot. Using this, I went to the shop so I could take a screenshot of the shot. Photoshop gave me an area of 41891 pixels for one shot, which comes out to 17454.58333 pixels/p. This slightly underestimates the actual amount of pixels in 1p, as the camera angle maxes out just before becoming perpendicular with the floor. We can divide this by 3.30627 m^2/p to get the conversion factor of about 5279.2371262278 pixels/m^2 for a 1280x720 screenshot. Taking the square root of this gets you 72.6583589563 (pixels)^(0.5)/m. Since the camera distance would be the same when facing a wall, we can also use this ratio for pixel measurements for screenshots of those camera angles. Using this, we can convert the estimations of the height of the boy and girl at 213 px^(0.5) and 209 px^(0.5), respectively. The conversion factors give an estimation of 1.52888 m for the boy and 1.50017 m for the girl, a minor 2 cm discrepancy that can be attributed to the different hairstyles causing error in the exact heights of their heads, and that is even rendered moot by one of the measurements having only two significant digits. I repeat:
The actual in-game heights of the inklings are set at about 5 feet even, or 1.5 meters.

The next update should be landing on Nov 7th.

I really hope that sub doesn't home particularly well. I noticed it didn't destroy the dummy. The stamp is underwhelming, and while the mumble squids have discussed it in the past, I had kind of hoped it was going to be a weapon instead of a special. It could function similarly to a roller or a brush, but instead of the a flick, it would be the hammer stamp, and it rolls like a floor scrubber or something. I don't know. I dislike it as is. I dislike Splatoon 2 as is.

On an unrelated note, I played some turf war in Splatoon 1 today. What a load of fun that was. My splattershot was taking the usual 3 hits to splat, unlike Splatoon 2, where it takes 4 or 5 five hits, controls were more responsive, splats on either side felt fair, teams felt more fair, and the overall experience was simply better than Splatoon 2. Tick rate and netcode really make a difference.

The way I see it, brushes are kind of the anti-roller. It's centered around very fast paced movement and spamming flicks to ink as much ground as possible. While the regular brush can be good, the octobrushes are much better imo. The range and power increase is more than enough to justify a slight loss in flick speed. What I like to do is run crowd control and area denial. I'll ink as much ground as I can, move as quickly as I can towards the opposite end of the map, and semi-suicidally throw myself at enemies, spamming specials along the way. The way I see it, so long I can take out at least one enemy per each time I die, and distract other opponents as well trying to corner me, I'm helping my team with the objective. This strategy works best with turf war, splat zones, and clam blitz while using the kensa octobrush, while with tower control the octobrush nouveau's special is much more useful.

I like to call it the Hannibal strategy. Be as much of a relentless thorn in the enemy's side as possible until they can't ignore you, and then draw them in so that you can hopefully take out as many as possible while being outnumbered. Of course the big weakness of this strategy is the same one Hannibal ran into in Italy: if nobody takes the bait and instead one player micromanages you and restricts your movement, it can be very difficult to kill anyone but that single player, keeping things in a stalemate at best, and making you a drag on the team at worst.

Without knowing the exact kit, I can say this:
For the Dynamo, focus more on speed and ink saver, with swim speed if you fling a lot so you can get out of the way quicker. Whether to use ink saver main/sub depends on the sub.
For the Carbon, go more with whatever increases damage/performance of your splats. It's damage up on the first game, not sure about an equivalent for the second.
For the regular, go with a mix of the two, depending on your usual strategy.

When your gear levels up, it rolls for abilities, and the drink will boost the chances of one specific ability being rolled. And yes, it stacks with brand preferences; each brand has a 5x chance to roll a specific ability, as well as a 1/2x chance to roll another ability.
So yeah, if you want a lot of Ink Saver Main, look for some Splash Mob gear.

As a Krak-on main, I'd say focus more on ink saver main, I normally like to have between 2 mains and 2 mains 3 subs. For me the roller is bordering on unplayable without at least 2 mains and going over 2 mains 3 subs you're getting diminishing returns. I don't feel like I have much use for swim speed because as long as I've placed my beakons, I'll have a reliable way of getting from spawn to mid/enemy base/whereever in 4 seconds. All that said, I don't have much experience with the Kensa and I can see why swim speed would be vary useful on a weapon with out beakons.

As for slots, the first and primary slot of any gear is set in stone, and is also the strongest ability on that piece of gear; the secondary slots are weaker by comparison. The star level of a piece of gear is how many sub-ability slots it has, ranging from 1 to 3. Because that Dynamo has sprinkler, ink saver sub should be your absolute #1 priority if that's the one you're referring to. You need to get a feel for how many flings/how much rolling you feel comfortable getting out of the roller right after throwing one, as that sub will make your ink tank its bitch. Once you got that out of the way, then go for the ink saver main and other minor shit you might want to throw in. What to go for for Kensa Splat is less black and white, and depends on how often you like throwing your splat bombs.

It seems they haven't updated it in a while, but the regular Splat Roller should work for your purposes since Curling Bomb seems to have the same ink usage parameters and it has the same sub weapon.
You can normally get 10 flicks without a refill, and a Splat Bomb consumes a little less than three quarters. The two extremes of saver main/sub are either exactly doubling the flicks you can get out of a tank (every single one is main saver, completely overkill as you can get halfway there to 15 with just 2 mains and 1 sub) or being able to throw two bombs without needing to refill (3 mains 2 subs or 2 mains 5 subs, still overkill as in most cases you'll probably need to duck into your ink and slide back a little before throwing another one anyway).
Just don't forget you're on your feet too, so you can't just focus on those two. Walk speed up won't affect rolling speed, so don't think about it too much. You'll definitely feel a difference when using just a little swim speed up and using a lot, so try to see how you can best match your move speed with the situations you are likely to encounter. An example would be how you can use the right amount of swim speed up to comfortably evade a far enough distance that you get a chance to retaliate in case of an ambush.
Like I said before, try to balance it so it best fits your strategy, and if you somehow end up with extra slots you can go for other abilities, even if it's shitty Cold-Blooded never ever though.

If you've somehow missed the Single-Player story mode, aim to finish that before you get serious about online play.
The various Ranked gamemodes open up at Level 10; once you try them, you'll probably forget Turf Wars even exists.

The 'co-op' in 1 is just a pointless local split-screen minigame, but 2's is a substantial "horde survival" mode, playable offline (local wireless) and online (random matchmaking / teams of friends).

The DLC is a whole second (and way better) single-player campaign. The base game single-player is basically an extended, glorified tutorial you play before throwing yourself into multiplayer.

So I can be everywhere. It's especially good on walleye where I'll have a beacon behind the three middle boxes, middle, left, and right. Makes getting out of shit really easy. And if I'm being chased I can lay a beacon which gives the enemy two options, if they hit the beacon I escape, if they chase I can jump right to that beacon and I'm right behind them in the blink of an eye. I try other gimmicky shenanigans as well but that one works most often

What the fuck is going on in the C bracket? Over an entire half hour and I'm still only at C- 5. I can't be that bad at squiffer, I still got a decent number of kills and my technique got me through some tough shit to get a couple of knockouts. But I was expecting shitters that don't even know what a tower even is, and instead those are the minority population that stick out like a sore thumb. It got to the point where in one match a guy on the enemy team had a fucking 23/2 K/D ratio at the end. Me and one of my teammates were getting about 12 kills just trying to hold them back from a knockout and trying and failing just to bring the fucking tower back to the middle. God knows what the other two were trying to do, they just kept getting killed. Nope, even here there's level 40+, stacked damage up, and some """level 11""" roller called "sky" that just has to make a new account with a weapon he's already good at, just to troll shitters. He's actually pretty fucking great at accomplishing that, I'll admit. I could suck it up and do the same so I can get out of this matchmaking hellhole. But no, I have to be such a faggot that I want to challenge myself to learn about and git gud at this godforsaken charger/blaster hybrid, all while complaining about it on a Peruvian coffee farming bulletin. I've had enough with this bullshit for tonight, maybe I'll have better luck with it next time.
