Back in the early 80s rental stores in Japan would copy official game releases and rent them out, and it was normal for at least half a decade of so. When the Famicom came out, and especially the disc add on, renting got a huge spike in popularity most because early Famicom games were crap and nobody wanted to pay out the ass for them. This led to Nintendo chimping out and lobbying for a law that doesn't necessarily ban renting, but rather makes renting illegal without permission from the publisher which essential led to same outcome. So here's the thing about making a DVD video in the 2000s: it costs about a dollar a copy, packaged with printed covers and the whole setup. So if you sell it for $20, you are making a FAR better profit than 1990s game manufacturers who had more than 75% of their retail price go into paying for those larger cardboard boxes containing more stuff. You were lucky to get 10% the retail price on a sale just a decade prior.

I don't know what blu-ray costs because I'm not Japan and I'm not selling tickets to shake hands with idol girls, but I have to imagine if it weren't cost-efficient then it wouldn't be the standard.

If physical media could stand on its own without crazy gimmicks like uncensored on disc copy only, then these tricks would not exist let alone show up in every anime or console game of the past many years.

While I genuinely consider Japan to be less pozzed, more genuine, more wholesome than western nations in general, I would still call you a shortsighted dimwit if you cannot notice it going down the exact same road as said western nations. The degrees to which they exist may be lesser at times, but the nature of these problems is the exact same. The women being cold-hearted cunts is not an issue that can be dismissed, especially not as far as Asian countries are concerned.
