I think most sane people quit, there isn't much in the game that feels like an accomplishment anymore and if you want pvp in an mmo there are many better options out there. Better yet don't play mmos and use that time to play a larger variety of vidya instead. That mobile shit is getting released so runescape is literally never going to die just like all of the other terrible games that deserve to disappear

I got into OSRS months ago and I cannot stop
Right now I'm combat level 86 and I'm struggling to beat the fight caves. About to try my third attempt. I never had membership during the original run so this is all new content to me and I am really enjoying these quests. They feel pretty unique for an MMO.

Runescape is one of the few MMOs that I actually got into and that I felt got the concept truly right. I was playing before the auction house stuff and the way the economy worked and how item value was determined was so interesting back then. You would wander around banks looking for buyers or for specific items, it was a zoo probably not too different than how an overcrowded market square or bazaar would have been. Haggling, scamming, luring, all these things happened in unique ways in Runescape that no MMO I've found has been able to replicate. Runescape also made your character's life valuable in a more real sense with the item loss. If you were way out in buttfuck nowhere or out in the wilderness dying had some implications that are far more impactful than just losing exp which is easily regained. Interactions with players built experiences in RS i haven't found anywhere else, its very nostalgic for me.

Organic trading is far better than not interacting with anyone but an instant buy menu. After GE you could no longer barter, negotiate or add trading contacts. The game was simplified to shit. It centralized trading almost solely to the GE area, where before it took place in various spots in the world. It also effectively killed the hilarious bank shitstorms in World 1/2, I miss them.
