Strange Journey and Radiant Historia. Probably better off with just the DS originals if you want to play them, considering various changes made. Not like either are especially expensive or hard to find last I checked, between reprints and people "trading up" for the new versions increasing amount of copies without owners. Nintendo was suffering because they were a single company stretched across two hardware divisions. That's why the Switch is a unified platform. Nintendo couldn't keep up production speed making both handheld and console games, so they created a hybrid device that will do both. It comes with compromises of course, but it essentially removed their Achilles heel.

Nintendo knows they can't compete long-term with smart phones, and is now using those devices as supplementary devices to shill games on the "proper" gaming platform, so they essentially folded the "in your pocket" market but kept a modicum of portability with the Switch.

Not a perfect hardware platform by any means, but as far as it goes to meet their shortcomings and the market competition, it was a near perfect strategy.

Which was… The possibility to do poorly in a single market and do fine in another? How much hardware could they have to manufacture for a failed console? Moreover, removing the product line that kept you in business because of some vague "long-term" projections wasn't shrewd. If they had failed with the Switch, they would've been hurting for a long time as a company.

They've limited their potential with the Switch. Even if they break Wii sales numbers in terms of hardware they will never achieve what they once had by doing this. In that era they had one of the best selling consoles of all time and the best selling handheld ever, by far simultaneously. This is basically them admitting they've given up, which disgusts me. They threw away the handheld market despite them failing on the console market. I still honestly believe companies could've kept up dedicated handhelds for another 8-10 years, due to how sheerly different the phone market is from the handheld market. They'd just have needed to handle it better than they did the 3DS at launch, in my opinion to have great success.

To this day phones are still absolutely pitiful for any native games and the most popular gaming ones are f2p gacha/lootbox/gem-payment trash with almost no real games; or if they are they certainly have no attention or power in the market

1. The art changes that spergs obsess about are irrelevant.

2. Extra story bits are no worse than in Nocturne. Lucifer, Dante and Amala all felt out of place, but faggots don't complain about that one.

3. The added quality of life improvements are where it's at. If you think limited app slots and no quicksave makes your experience more authentic, then you are using game difficulty to simulate having a traditional dad.

No, it is much worse than the originals. The artstyle change is indeed bad and makes it look like a generic JRPG. Original endings got hit with the retcon stick because nu-Atlus wants to shove their self-insert waifu just like the Radiant Historia remake and the "quality of life" features actively make the game much easier and therefore worse. Only good additions are the new music and selecting demon skills, that is all.

I have the Radiant Historia remake as well as the original. The remake has a mode for new players that's just the original game with voices and portrait shots for each character when they're introduced. Have you played SJ Redux yourself? It might have a similar mode.

It's something to be critical about, especially Gore and Jimenez which got it worst. They could've kept the superior Kaneko originals instead of remaking it to pander to the Persona audience.

If you aren't blind then you can clearly see that Atlus has changed for the worse. Day 1 DLCs galore, the downhill trend of SMT and remakes that utterly misses the point of the originals are some of the things on top of my head.

Biggest negative change is loading screens which the gamecube version had basically none of. On the plus side it's graphically superior to the gamecube version in everything except lighting used to run on the GCN's dedicated effects chip, 3ds has no comparable chip and thus lighting loses the effects it had in the OG version, big loss for a game that uses light as a gameplay mechanic and resolution.
