So my mum came round and as a gift for looking after her dogs while her house was remodelled she got me and xbone and some games "because i know you have your sonybox and nintendo cube" and not one to turn down free shit i plugged it in.
And it is a fucking nightmare.

This isn't even console war bullshit, i am just flabbergasted at the sheer low quality of the entire experience. No wonder even normalfags don't want it.

I think it also comes from the fact that they had to rewrite everything between the original announcement at E3 and the launch of the console. Most of the features like a background wallpaper, music app etc. were added years later. The biggest downside to any console that Microsoft makes now is its short lifespan it'll have thanks to the reliance on an online service that will be shutdown when a newer console comes out and their analytic team tells them it's time or they drop out of the console market entirely. Their security is so tight and their lawyers so vexatious that we'll probably never see private xbox servers.
With an OG xbox or 360 you can mod it with a larger HDD to have a decent console with at least a dozen games you'll enjoy that are stuck as exclusives on them, there's nothing Microsoft can do to reduce the worth of them. A decade from now every version of the xbone will be worthless by design, all it'll do is try to connect to a server that isn't there to download updates that aren't available, it won't be able to play games or movies. Maybe old bluray movies will work but the newer 4k ones require an internet connection to play as part of their DRM, games will probably get stuck in a loop looking for updates. This is by design to keep you on their upgrade treadmill.
Say what you want about the Switch or PS4 but at least they'll both be usable a decade from now. And much like any decade old console available now you'll be able to buy one modded to have a complete library built into it with private servers keeping some of the games running.

I bought the xbone in 2014 since it was 4x less the price of the PS4 (Sony lost the official console market here for that blunder)., It feels like a beta machine, it's already half dead from salt and humidity from living in a beachfront.

I'm going to have to dispute this being a flaw. On the 360 this is actually a nice feature because I'm pretty sure everyone has had a rechargeable battery in a controller die on them, and when that happens you are totally fucked. On the 360 you just replace the battery pack or use AAs, quick, easy, efficient. Meanwhile I have several PS3 controllers that are just dead unless I want to pop them open and replace the battery which is a pain.

FH3 is legitimately good, especially with the Hot Wheels expansion pack. I can't speak to FH4, because it's just FH3 but in merry olde Englundland which is about as exciting as setting it in Delaware.
PC port was fucking garbage though. It's semi-fixed now if you have a mid-range system, but it's literally unplayable anywhere near it's stated minimum system requirements. Backwards compatibility for Xbox Original titles on the 360 was only a stop-gap until the 360 had enough games to stand on it's own. Once the 360 no longer needed BC, it became a financial liability and was jettisoned. Initially, the Xbox One didn't have backwards compatibility either, and wasn't planned to though Phil says it was, you never heard about it as an in-the-works feature in any of the press material be until Microsoft needed it because three years on and the Xbox One had literally no fucking games to sell the system on. As soon as the Xbox brand starts selling well enough that they don't NEED BC, I wouldn't be surprised if they drop it again since they want to encourage the sale of NEW games rather than older games.
For the Xbox, this generation is literally just the Xbox 360 generation - extended. I'm really surprised that more developers aren't still just making Xbox 360 games which are playable on Xbox One as a default. I'm also somewhat surprised that Microsoft hasn't extended Xbox Original and 360 BC to the PC yet, considering how shit the Microsoft Store is and how badly it's floundering. Hell, being basically a PC in a box already - they could probably just make every Windows 10 PC that meets a certain spec threshold into an Xbox One box. It's not like they'd have to emulate - they'd just have to translate whatever calls to the hardware the Xbox One does into a middleware layer that hands it off to the PC's hardware. Shit, since AMD is basically making the Xbox brand now - they could even work out a deal with AMD to have a line of cards that work in Xbox One compatibility on a chip. Even to the point where, if you have a BluRay drive - you could just pop a Xbox One game you bought at GameStop into a Windows 10 PC and it just picks up and plays it like native Xbox One hardware.

Most games that are shipped probably come with patches for the OS to make it playable but as time goes on and the size increases it's going to become impossible to do so. If it's not already the case eventually a launch version of the xbone won't be able to play a game released later in its lifespan without being connected to the internet to download a patch. Once the servers are shut down and they don't provide support those games will be unplayable.

It's not backwards compatible in the usual sense of the word, what they do is port some games to an entirely different CPU architecture. When you insert an OG xbox or 360 game disc it just confirms you own a copy and downloads their own version leaving the data on the disc unused.
Backwards compatibility means either hardware included or an emulator for near perfect compatibility to make the console more appealing for consumers that own their previous consoles to get one at launch. What Microsoft is doing isn't comparable.

Doesn't that only apply to physical copies? Because the system has no way to verify that you own the disk, and the disk just unlocks a download, they can't just credit your account with the game after popping in the disk to keep people from loading up on rentals or buy/return cycle. So each time you have to download the game, it's treated as a new distribution - and once a game is taken down, it's no longer able to be legally distributed by Microsoft. However, if you buy the game digitally, then your account is properly accredited with "ownership" lol of the game - and therefore you can download it as many times as you want without it being considered a new distribution since a new license isn't issued.
A stickler of this is, aside from being one more push to get consumers onto digital and away from physical, is that older games like OutRun 2 Coast to Coast for the 360 or OutRun 2 for the OG Xbox will never ever come to the Xbox One or future consoles - despite the former being digital only and already accredited to your account if you bought it. Because it's no longer able to be distributed, they can't make new sales on it - so there is zero financial incentive for them to bring it forward. A big part of Microsoft's business model is the integration of social networking into the UI, so your friends can see what games you're playing and earning achievements on, and potentially get interested so they can play with you or try it themselves. They don't want you to waste your friends valuable screen space with social notification clutter of games they can't purchase.

And as I said earlier what happens 10 years from now when their newer console is out or they've left the console business? There are two people I know who own an Xbone. He does admit that Forza Horizon 4 is pretty good, though apparently they fucked up some drag racing thing? IDK, cars and racing games are not my thing. He regrets ever buying the Xbone and says he should have gotten a PS4.
The other one I know of only had an Xbone to play FIFA with a mate online. Eventually the mate got a PS4 as well so they sold their Xbones and just play PS4 now.

The Switch is fucking quick and the lightweight UI/OS is really nice to use, except when on the eShop where it has input lag out the wazoo, probably because it doesn't cache properly and loads actual web data every time you move the cursor.

I know three people who have an Xbox One. One is my cousin, who's a die-hard Xbox fanboy despite only ever really playing Destiny and COD and other multiplat shit. There's no actual Microsoft owned franchises he really gets into, aside from Halo - and even he admits they shit the bed with Halo 5.
One of them is my brother-in-law, who's wife got it for him for Christmas one year along with two games - neither of which he's played. I got him and my nephew Cuphead, and he's almost beaten that - but otherwise, it's a netflix box to keep the babies entertained while he takes a nap. If he plays anything these days, it's the hacked PSP I got him for his birthday since that can be flicked into sleep mode at a moment's notice if they kids need him, it has it's own screen, and it plays Pokemon.
The other one is an old co-worker who just uses it for Bioware games and free-to-play MMOs.
I still play on my Xbox 360 on occasion, and out of the 70 or so friends I had - only about 10 of them still get on Xbox with any regularity. They all have Xbox Ones, but almost always they're just using it for YouTube/Netflix/Hulu/BluRay. I almost never see them playing actual games. It really is just a $300 cable box.

You forgot about the forced day one patch too. They launched their consoles set to not be playable until you connected them to the internet once. I got one as a gift last year, and every time I boot it up I hate Microsoft a little bit more. It's pretty much turned into my ninja gaiden black box because that's the only decent somewhat exclusive its got. Even then, I've gotta be connected to the internet just to get that to launch. It's a shame that their fuckups on kinnect and xbone are pretty much negligible for them. I'd like them to be forced to either get out of the market or stop being such shit. Either way, I've sworn to never give them a dollar going forward.
