Gameplay is really, really dull but otherwise it's okay in most aspects. Then it completely shits the bed at the end.

A solid 2/5 if you want it on a numbered scale. If you like action platformers and the setting/characters look interesting to you, you might enjoy it.

The only good thing we got out of this was some good porn of Fidget the Flying Fleshlight. Everything else was a fuckup. The writing is atrocious, the shitty referential humor is REALLY atrocious, the art is Deviantart trash, the combat system seems cool at first but never evolves since there is very little reward for doing combos and none at all for using a variety of moves, and magic is ridiculously easy to spam, the balance of health and healing items is fucked (I will always hate when games justify broken difficulty with "well you can just use healing items which can be stacked in your inventory infinitely and used while the game is paused". That means there's no balance, either you grind for healing items and make the game a cakewalk or you abstain and the game is a ballbusting never-get-hit dumpster fire), the villain and his motivation is literally the second-worst I've ever seen in a video game (topped only by the villain of Rise and Shine. Don't play that game by the way it's fucking terrible), and the one good aspect of the story, Dust himself and his past, which could have been an interesting character conflict if it had been explored at all, instead shows up in one scene and then everyone sort of forgets about it.

do what >>15601290 said. If you're trying to get another game like Muramasa, though, you'll only be frustrated with this one. The combo system in this gane nearly emulates it, but fucks up by having some fixed combos that you can't cancel out of. The enemy placement and stream achivements encourage you to try to carve a path of destruction, but as soon as you get yourself into those fixed combos, you'll be wide open to any sort of blow that'll end your streak right there.

It was pretty fun. The combat was pretty simple and gets easy when you're drowning in food, but the juggling and whirlwind moves were fun. Exploring and collecting everything was fun too.

As for dialogue/story, I liked how Gaius cared for his old friend and was trying to help him remember what they were through leading up to and during his fight. Kinda wish I could side with him, or talk each other down. Otherwise it is pretty deviant art-tier as mentioned already.

Also I want to impregnate Fidget. The bunny blacksmith too.

actually let me just go into Dust and his past, because it is the one aspect of this game that is actually interesting and I want someone else to shamelessly copy it for their own story and do it in a way that is not shitty. Spoilers I guess, not like anyone should actually play this game.

Dust is a fusion of two people; Cassius, the main villain's right-hand man and trusted "assassin" (honestly more like one-man-army than assassin but whatever), and Jin, a simple villager who got a lucky shot on Cassius when he was sent to wipe out Jin's village. They both died simultaneously, and the way souls in this world work, when that happens and the circumstances are right, you get… well basically a protagonist. Has amnesia, but also the combined skills and emotions of both people.

Now, I saw some glimmers of hope for the game's story when this reveal happened. Before it happened, the villain was basically just "furries good scalies bad, kill all scalies because they're scalies and also kill any furries who sympathize with scalies". So this would be a great opportunity to add some depth to the story. Would there be some conflicting loyalties at play? Would Dust have to confront the fact that his combat skills were honed in the blood of innocents? Would he try to convince the villain that the plan is bad and that there is literally no reason for him to go through with it? Or maybe when Cassius's memories came back, we'd see the reasons for why this guy wanted to launch the scaly holocoust. I mean, the main (((merchant))) in the game turns out to be a scaly in disguise, so maybe there was a comparison to be made. Nope, none of that happens, instead we basically just settle on "Jin's empathy plus Cassius's combat skills" and call it a day.

Seriously though I want to see someone copy this method of protagonist creation because in the hands of a good writer it could make for some great characters. In this game though it's just a huge waste of potential.

The game is objectively very well done, and it's fun. The game is capable of throwing a decent, but not overwhelming challenge at a reasonably skilled player. Having fidget spew out some balls of magic and then swirly swording all over the place is fun. There's enough stuff around that will fuck you up if you act like an idiot though, so you have to actually try.

The story is cringey, but well written. Side characters are done incredibly well, and their stories are actually quite good. The main character's story, however, is utter trash. It made me think that more effort was expended on the side characters than the main character. The world you explore is very well done, but you are not.

If you can get past the theme and the story, go for it. If you can't, then don't feel overly ashamed about skipping it.

I played it. I liked it enough. I'd recommend it to someone who asks if it's good, but I wouldn't suggest it over other games.

I like how when you finally get bored of the combat, you can just abuse the movement system and fly over entire screens. As long as you have enough altitude and speed, you'll get to the edge before any enemies get close enough to the end to activate the exit barrier thing.

Hell, the movement mechanics being as fluid and ripe for abuse as they are is the best part of the game. I don't think there are any collectibles that normally require backtracking with later abilities that you can't get the first time by cheesing the movement.

I was pretty pissed, when, after this reveal happened, you didn't have any choice whatsoever in what happened next. The lizardjews came, told you that you're their golem, and you just went along with it—slaughtering countless of what you now knew were “your” former comrades along the way, and ignoring the pleas of Cassius's friend, who had faith in you until the very end.

Completely sucked the foun out of me for the rest of the game (but fortunately this was towards the tail end already).

It's worth it just for the satisfaction of launching yourself vertically through an entire room and going to the room above by exploiting the broken as fuck spin move.

Actually, I remember one area being unreachable no matter what until you get the required powerup, the "Super Jump on upwards currents" move. It was a floating island in a room without enemies with a flat floor and a tiny spout of wind. That said, there was another spot that would usually require the super jump to reach that didn't have enemies either, which I just barely managed to reach with a precise jump and combining all aerial attacks that increase height. Gaming the upgrade system really is the most fun the game has to offer.

Pretty sure I know what spot you're talking about. You enter it from the room below that has a lot of updraft, right? You can gain infinite height with precision comboing.

In some other places, you could at least lure enemies around and not have to go through that horrible grind for altitude.

I think it was a group of two slashes and a very short whirl, then swapping directions, with some pretty fiddly timing. Doing something similar against a wall was a lot easier, such as when going up the climbable vines up to the long spike zone, sans vine climb ability.

These did require the ability to do the whirl storm thing in the air though, which I think was an unlocked move.
