You can get infected from plugging anything to your PC or running any piece of software you didn't inspect. So short answer, yes you can, although if you're not an idiot it is perhaps not as likely.
Drivers pose a serious risk because if anyone puts malicious code in them (yes, even the manufacturers themselves if they're heebs/chinks) it fucks with your machine at the OS level. Therefore, consider antivirus/scanning solutions before even that unless you trust those drivers. Man if you're security conscious you need to get the fuck our of windows, I'm serious, these are just band-aids.
