The first on the list is New Vegas for sure. Knowing almost every single story aspect stops me from enjoying repeat playthroughs.

Then there's a bunch of games like the Wind Waker, Half Life, etc. where if I had the option to forget about just one of them I'd say yes but probably wouldn't say yes to more than one or two. I'm afraid if I tried to play them fresh I wouldn't actually enjoy them now. And I don't have a lot of time to play video games anymore

Most of the sense of wonder and discovery you got when you played "that game" is not because it was your first playthrough, but because you were young when you played it. There are many [current year] games that will be "that game" for the next generation, but you can never get the same feeling from them again.

Easily Shadow of the Colossus. While I can still enjoy it, by now I've memorized the map and optimal strategies for each colossi and defeat them very quickly. Which is nice for getting the bonus items in the time trials, it takes a lot of the magic out of the game. The first time you explore that world it's expansive and beautiful, and each colossus is intimidating and challenging. But now the world is familiar and easy to navigate, and every colossi is a breeze. It would be awesome to play it again with fresh eyes.

stop talking out your ass, new vegas is fucking terrible, You can't even call it a fall out game, it should have been a stand alone.

You start out in the fucking corner of the map right in a wall, You walk in the wrong direction and you get punished by getting your ass handed to you by monsters. You have to go into a linear direction guided by the road and layout that the designers made.

b8a4d7  No.15597634

>>15597610

Which is very similar to the old Fallouts. They weren't necessarily railroaded, you could do other shit especially with preexisting knowledge, but there was definitely a set path you were supposed to talk through the first 1/4 of the game or so. Fallout 3 gave the player access to the entire map by having enemy scaling, while NV tried to emulate that same guided intro as 1&2 but a lot of people didn't like it after the freedom in 3. Admittedly though, Obsidian did go a little overboard with the invisible walls in NV.

It's less about forgetting the game itself, but a lot of the games I played were products of the time and the things happening in my life. A lot of games are footnotes during points in my life, and I miss those more than the experience of the games themselves, though the games definitely helped.

Some monumental games I miss playing for the first time.

>Doom

1993, 10-year-old me was a SNES kid. And that was in the height of Nintendo's faggotry, where Mortal Kombat had no blood. Lots of games were bloodless, and I hated it. My parents just bought a brand new 486 SX, and brought it home. It had fucking Doom. It opened up PC gaming in a whole new way because RIPPING AND TEARING was the most amazing fucking thing, especially in this drought of videogames that didn't have blood, or fatalies or anything like that. My teachers thought I was disturbed because I kept drawing people and demons getting ripped apart, blood going all over the place, led to them having meetings with my parents thinking that I was fucked up. No, bitch. I just wanted to get home to play more motherfucking Doom.

>FF6

Just a super comfy time in my life. I remember this game particularly because the opening scene happened with the snowfield, and I rented this game on the same night that a huge snowstorm started. School was out for four days, and that whole time was spent indoors, playing FF6, playing with Lego and drinking hot chocolate near the fireplace.

>Max Payne 1

This game came out the Summer right before my freshmen year of college. I was playing this game when 9/11 went down. My memories of Max Payne are directly tied to that entire week, which is fitting in its own, fucked up way.

Without turning this post into a giant blogpost, will just post some other honorable mentions.

I think its unique because old era FFXI you had to party with other people past level 10 or you were incapable of doing anything, nowadays MMOs are just a solo experience until you want to raid with hardly any interaction asked of you. But while they are a solo experience they are designed like gacha shit with dailies and stuff to whale your ass, not something that feels like a living breathing world

I understand what you mean, but I don't think I'd want that for myself.

I was absolutely blown away by a lot of Obsidian's games when I first played them (like NWN2 and KotOR2) many years ago, but to wipe my knowledge of those games and go through them now for the first time would be to spit on that memory.

Don't get me wrong, I still like those games and play them every now and then (hell, I have NWN2 installed right now, all 12GBs of it), but I know much more about games now and see their flaws more easily.

Wiping my memory of a game and then replaying it would hardly give me the same experience it did back then.

I had played some of the other FF but didn't know it at the time. FF9 really got me into the whole JRPG/RPG series of games and really delve into the Square games. It wasn't until I bought all of 1-9 after the fact that I had played like 1 or 2 beforehand but didn't realize it.

The whole story with Vivi. Garnet. Eiko. Fucking the crazy antics with Steiner. The cutscenes were fucking amazing. And of course the music and the crystal theme. Used to leave my playstation on and just go to sleep listening to the music. Still get teary eyed whenever I hear Melodies of Life tbh.

- 3D Platformers are inferior to 2D platformers in basically every way and that is apparent in some of 64's later levels, especially at the end of the game.

> OoT (and Majora's Mask)

I never got further than the first area in either of these games. I did not see why they were fun. I must have figured at an early age that action games are shit and not fun

> Dark Souls

Nothing about this game is remotely enjoyable.

I would not like to forget about any game I ever played. If I were to pick without thinking the game of choice would be Chrono Trigger but that game is too quintessential for a game that has basically defined me as a gamer. The sad part is that if I didn't play it back then (aka the 90s) I would probably not have gotten into JRPGs and would not be nearly the same person as I am today.

Maybe the game isn't perfect and overhyped by its rabid fans. But I love the atmosphere it has, and I also played it during a time in my life when I felt like shit, worse than I've ever been, and it carried me through those times. I felt legitimately happy for a week, during my 3 playthroughs.

I've done a run or more every year since then, completed the game with every clan and finished every quest.

What was the story behind this again? Found in some spooky old building and looked like they came from animals?

Actually it's the poor engine, 32bit limitation, and the fact that consoles, especially that generation, were limp-wristed emachine faggots.

Only way Vegas would work in a reasonable scale would be on Skyrim SE's version of the engine (64bit, no, not F4's version) on modern hardware with like 6gb vram and sys ram.

forgetting the game content won't make you re-enjoy a game.

You forgot how to enjoy it, so it doesn't matter what its story or mechanics are.

If you knew how to enjoy it, you could replay it and have fun.

The problem is your imagination is broken.

>S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl

Nothing could really beat the feeling of finishing the whole game at the first try at Master difficulty since it was 'easier'. Also the first time really sucked me in with the atmosphere.

>Sengoku Rance

I just finished my 4th playthrough recently and it does rang hollow compared to my first playthrough of it. Man, i do miss my first time since even though i got my ass kicked by the Demon Army i do feel like i felt legitimately challenged doing so while at the same time trying to bang as many chicks as i Rance possibly could.

satanic trips confirm lies and deceit.

I never said what you think I said.

Good games can be replayed over again and again, if you know how to enjoy them.

>eureka moments, joy of discovery

obviously there is more than one type of fun when playing a game and you don't need to have constant "AHA!" moments to enjoy a replay.

999 for the DS. Im not sure how Id convince my self to play it with out spoiling it as I only played it by chance in the first place, but the chance to go through it again with out knowing whats coming would be amazing.

Satanic ID confirms that the devil is still trying to push his lies down our throats

Firstly, you are right in a literal sense that you can't 'forget' a game content to re-enjoy it like you once did. However, the OP is talking about games that you'd like to re-discover it again as if you have just started playing it for the first time

Second, a game can only have so much replayability before it gets stale, ergo that is why the first playthrough always felt magical since you're akin to a child immersing yourself into the wonderous world the game has to offer (if it has any).

Third, is that OP isn't even talking about replayability the fag's talking about playing a game that you really like and to rewind time to have it be your magical first time with that game again

and finally, the implication of

>The problem is your imagination is broken.

WRONG SATAN

Your imagination is null and consists only of perverted version of God's creations.

Burn in hell!

Either Postal 2 or Myst. I'll never be able to experience the sheer glee of finding out about all the crazy shit you can do in Postal 2, and there's little point in replaying Myst once you realize you can beat the whole thing in less than a minute. Seriously, hiding the thing that wins you the game right at the beginning is cute for a first playthrough, but it's a terrible idea. I even found out about it by pure accident too.

>a lot of the games I played were products of the time and the things happening in my life.

Also this.

Honorable Mention

Ar tonelico. I was spoiled on this game and it was still amazing. Between the music, the languages, the backstory, and everything the game was just something to tie it all together and give it form. Chronicle Key was haunting with only a vague understanding of the context and dodgy translation of the lyrics. The music whiplash in the last boss of Ar tonelico 2.
