But, in addition to that, I could point to a half dozen Jap gacha games that probably have more dedicated players than WoW right now. Let alone, back to the normal sphere of gaming, the kind of traffic you see with the latest genres of the month. Right now it's Overwatch, Fortnite and so on. How many of those WoW players play every day? Just because you have a sub doesn't mean you are actually using it.

Isnt what people here do when people say they play Wow?

Legion had 1.4 million max level characters in NA about 6 months after it launched. That's characters not even accounts, possibly doubled to include EU and nobody should give a fuck about chinks.
BfA has around 3 million max level characters NA+EU. Again characters not accounts. I have 3 and I'm not subbed. Even the shittiest people on moon guard I know had at least 2.
1.7 million is completely accurate and it's only going to go down barring major changes in devs; like adding flying and changing classes back to what they were at literally any other point in time (preferably MoP).

I will say that I've changed into accepting force as a very necessary means of establish power, which I'll grant I would never have done when I was younger, believing more in the "market of ideas." I wouldn't say it was a concept I "hated" though, since I always liked the military, and still do even though they fight for Israel. Even knowing that, I've considered joining, since every prominent Fascist has had a military background, because they needed to know how to fight to establish themselves against foes who are MORE than willing to silence you by any means necessary. Here's a better response to your post, the first one was a knee-jerk because I was thinking of what I actually hated at the time, heh.

>I actually love the plot of WC3 despite the muh noble savages stuff they had with the orcs because it told the tragedy of Arthas so well.
>tragedy of Arthas
I don't even call it a tragedy to be honest. For one, he became infinitely mightier than he ever would have become had he remained a paladin. Case in point, Uther, arguably the greatest paladin to ever exist, was easily consumed by Arthas. Next, going by WotLK canon, Arthas re-learned and PERFECTED the art of resurrection of the dead. In WC2, death knights could also be raised, but they only maintained a skeleton, whereas Arthas's death knights maintained the exact form they had maintained while they "lived," albeit with blue eyes instead. Next, the risen dead had IMMORTALITY, provided they weren't broken by violent means or special ritual, as compared to the fleeting existence of the living. They were given many mighty gifts, including command of their own thralls, on the sole condition that loyalty to the Lich King was absolute. Additionally, pity, remorse, and mercy were removed from them that way they could do what needed to be done. Honestly if you wanted to go WH40K'ey with it, Arthas would have become the "God Emperor," and everyone else that remained were godless heathens.

I believe the numbers because it falls in line with the wax and wane cycle that has followed for the last three or so expansions that I've followed. You get a flurry of server activity just before the expansion. Then an explosion of activity for the first month or so. Dead zones are now filled. People are actively working through content. Outside of this board, people talk about how great the expansion is.
Then as the content runs out, everybody leaves. This occurs in 2-3 months in and those who stay or join in are either the no-lifers or the late comers. Its the same cycle I've seen in FFXIV and I would argue that theres a cycle within a cycle. That cycle being as the content comes out year after year, less overall people return. More so when design decisions are made that polarize the subscribers in addition to entertaining them less and less. WoW is over 10 years at this point, I would not be shocked with 3.2 million at expansion launch and 1.7 million as of that tweet.
Of course Blizzard is going to say those numbers are false one way or another because the truth is likely not a good look either way. If the current numbers were good, you would have smug press releases showing the figures. They will never do that aside from expansion sales (while they remain profitable) because the game's sub peak was during Wrath and its only downhill until the end. The game is profitable in the same way COD is profitable. The engine and structure is all there. All you have to do is add more content to the skeleton and thats cheap as fuck compared to building a new IP from scratch. There are less customers than last year, but enough to warrant the venture. The big tell for
By the way, the subscriber number with explode again briefly once Vanilla is brought back. How much and for how long will depend on the details.I don't even play WoW anymore, but I find the game's lifespan interesting to follow in the same way I pay attention to the aftermath of #GG.

It's really incredible how they manage to release expansions that have even less features than previous expansions, which leads to reduced the reduced subs. Professions used to mean something, now all they do is grant the necessary consumables/enchants for raids, and the rest is for transmogs, since the content you would want the gear to be able to run is the only content that drops the items necessary to craft that gear. It's amazing how the gear you can craft from, say, a mythic dungeon is worse than the mythic dungeon's drops, so there's just not point in it.
Not to mention the fun class-specific portion of legion being shot in the head. You wouldn't think you'd miss such a feature, but you do when it's sniped with no replacement. Anyways, I'm fine being done with it myself too, it used to be fun once when everything didn't feel like a gigantic grind to get to endgame.

I wondered the same thing instead of creating features that are future proof they create these systems that only last one expansion like garrisons and artifact weapons and then copy the worst of it in next expansion.
Even pet battles are better implemented than those systems.

Yeah, I don't know why they destroy current content when a future expansion rolls out. I assume it's some retarded notion of egalitarianism for people who sat expansions out, because heaven forbid when you did all that work for it in that expansion you should continue to be rewarded for it in future content. Seriously, make it so that gold can continue to be rewarded from garrison missions and legion missions, or at the least that vendor trash from these is actually worth something and not just literal coppers (in the case of WoD garrison.)

It's actually really simple. Normalfags are that way because they're psychologically dependent on the blue pill; they've lived on it their whole lives, so they still believe things like
>authorities can be trusted
>most people are basically good
>jews are their greatest allies
>everything is exactly as it appears and everything is not hiding some sort of ulterior motive behind it
If they ever had to consider the possibility that any one of those things was false, that would deal such a debilitating blow to their mental theory of reality, their worldview. It would drive them to depression, probably drug-fueled to the extent that they'd strongly consider suicide. If Blizzard was lying to them about subscription numbers, what else are they - or other such institutions - lying to them about? If someone as reputable to them as Blizzard could lie to them so casually like that, what does that mean for anybody else they used to trust? Government? Family? Friends? Women? Jews?
That's a huge fucking redpill to swallow. And all you guys here swallowed that and know how hard it was to swallow. Normalfags can't abide the thought.

They lack the fundamental mental patterns necessary for proper discrimination. They essentially cannot tell things apart and cannot assess them for themselves. Therefore, not being able to guide their own minds, to engineer their own motion, they must resort to the only other alternative which is to follow someone else's. This practically results in following a perceived authority, whether it be the collective they are closest to's opinion, or simply an individual that they perceive as knowing his shit. Subtleties exist but this is the core of the phenomenon. Normalfags cannot assert self-control because they lack self-awareness, they can only follow and be programmed by external influences. Which of course makes them prone to manipulation.

If they'd done actual player housing they could have been up to 30 million subs by now and jewed them all on cosmetic shit the entire time.
It's very obvious why everything between expansions is always disjointed and not continued, gameplay, story, everything. They have 2 dev teams (or most of 2). One group doesn't know what the other is going to do during their 2 years of gameplay and has to make what they do completely independent. That's why you don't see major NPCs for entire expansions, why the gameplay changed inexplicably and the story makes no fucking sense. BfA was obviously the 'intern' group that did WoD and Cataclysm (see how disconnected these both were from the regular story/game?).

It actually hurts. Even in Vanilla I was kind of questioning why Blizzard was putting so much development time into raids when tier .5 armor was pretty much the only stuff being offered to anyone not raiding. Back when only 1% of the population was seeing content that obviously took hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop I was asking why they weren't implementing more robust elements to allow better immersion in the world. If only I could tell my younger self it would never get any better.
This is why the wow 'vanilla' is destined to fail. Because what version of vanilla could it possibly be? The version where most specs in the game were literally useless? When you could only have 8 debuffs total on a mob? Shit like that might fly (barely) on private servers where aging fans are trying to od on nostalgia, but once it's ugly reality is strewn about for the masses to see they will realize that WoW was never any good.
I look forward to it.

Meanwhile on wow the drones literally just talk about sub numbers so they can fellate their corporate overlords as if they actually play on a server with x millions of people.
My take is that the drones have to slurp on blizz and the sub numbers because they are deathly afraid of the game being shutdown if it doesnt have subs in the millions constantly because activision wants to print money but only when its ALOT OF MONEY at once, they'd just as soon shut down wow and make them work on something else if it dips below a certain amount. Some good parts from d3 but later it becomes gambling machine. Every gained item is random, sometimes from the pool of hundreds of items. Less than 1% chance to get what you want. So if you want to get full set of useful items (or some cosmetic items) you need to spend literally hundreds of hours to get them. This is where gametime comes from, not from some "I lost 15 seconds while finding group for this quest". And quests are now mostly useless anyway unless you dont have maxed rep. Also I am not sure where worst gambling was 1st. Sure in diablo every item was random, but there were no "super" versions of items at the start. Now diablo has legendary/super legendary/super duper legendary versions of items so your chances to get what you want dont fucking exist. I think pandaland was 1st to introduce random upgrades to items. Right now you can get better items from normal raid than from mythic raid if you lucky. And best items only rewarded to lucky people, not the best players who do hardest content. What the fucking point of doing hardest content if lucky noob who cant even read before doing the boss gets better reward?

Not really. People do want contradictory things. Do you really think people will enjoy "grind mobs for 2 levels because there are no quests"? Or "kill one mob at a time because you cant survive 2 of them"? Or grinding mats for every raid like crazy. Or one button rotations would be great.

So if you want to play feral druid or guardian druid than tough luck. And dont even think of tanking anything difficult on anything but blood DK.

Median is not really close to d2, its more of endgame for diablo 2/challenge mode. Grim dawn is the closest thing to d2 right now. Poe is allright, but devs are incompetent and game has too many problems which are never fixed. Grim dawn is good all around alternative. The only problem is that grim dawn might be a bit slower than average diablo2 and skills are lamer.
If you like minmaxing you better play path of building instead of game.
But median is great too, they could make their own game instead of building some shit on top of d2 engine. They just recently broke it so now game has more than 128 areas. And mod is improving a lot. They squished damage values so its not ridiculous numbers now, movespeed was reduced so you are not running at sanic speeds all the time. And soon there will be new big update which will bring interface update and other important shit. Hel, they might even pull a fucking guildhouses if they keep at it.

The others are correct, but I'll add my own response too.
<semi-unique classes that don't all feel the same
There will be a level of sameyness at lower levels until they really start getting into their niche. I'd say this is around level 30, but the class probably won't be fun until level 50; 70 is the max.
The crafting and gathering classes all play the same though. However you're incentivized to get them all up since there are different skills that can be used across classes (combat classes used to be this way too, but they scrapped that unfortunately).
Lastly I'll say part of the appeal of the game is you can switch classes anytime outside of combat (not in dungeons) by equipping the main hand of a different class; which can be bound to a single button on your hotbar.
<fun stuff to do at max level/endgame
For one there are dungeon roulettes that give extra rewards. They'll be around from a low level, but the rewards change as you level up and reach max. You're incentivised to do these at max level for currency to buy endgame gear. Beyond that there is also an adorable cat loli who has a weekly bingo book of dungeons and raids you can clear for more rewards on top of this.
There is the current 24 man raids which have a weekly loot lockout and the latest 8 man raid (which is just like a Trial at this point) which isn't loot locked, but there is an important bit of currency that's weekly locked.
There's also the latest Trial that gets introduced by the main story; including the content that comes with a story patch. Trials are a single, self-contained boss fight. Extreme Trials are like 8 man raids.
There is also Eureka. If you've ever played WoW, particularly at the end of MoP when Timeless Isle was a thing, it's like that, but a bit annoying imo. You maintain your level, but you have an additional Elemental Level to grind up to 20. The mobs are too difficult to solo for most so it's ideal to form a party to farm and explore. There are regularly party trains that lead newbs to boss spawning areas where they kill mobs for a while until they hit the threshold to spawn the boss. Once the boss is downed and you got some exp from it the train moves on. I found this to be really tedious since you're too low a level to do jack shit. I imagine the place is fun with a dedicated party to just farm mobs though. There is endgame Artifact Gear locked behind this.
There's also the Palace of the Dead and, since I left, Heaven on High. A sort of rogue-like dungeon where your level resets, your weapon is replaced, and you need to manage fighting enemies while looking for upgrades before proceeding to the next floor. Can be done in a party. There are some nice rewards behind this too.
There's The Hunt which should mostly be trivial by max level, but there are still some nice rewards from it.
You can bullshit in the Gold Saucer, participate in chocobo races, and challenged players and NPCs to Triple Triad.
There's also beast tribe dailies.
So, as the other anon said, it's mostly daily grind meta bullshit, but with some other nice distractions.
<decent difficulty, where you can't just buttonmash and steamroll equal-level mobs and bosses
No, for the most part the game is quite easy. I mean, you can't "button mash" you have to do your rotation, but most enemies your level will die to your rotation pretty easily. Soloing or even duoing Palace of the Dead can be tricky though. Doing the old raids unsynced at max level is also kinda tough after a point. Trials on higher difficulties can be tough and 8 mans on higher difficulties requires good team cohesion and understanding of mechanics.
<no p2w whatsoever
Not in ways that really matter. Like WoW you can pay to have a character or class boosted to a high level. You can also pay to skip the Main Story Quest, which is very, very, very long and mandatory. However there's nothing that would actually put you at an advantage over someone who didn't buy those services.

The game is so fucking devoid of any emotion. It's all just grinding and repetition. The raids are pretty cool, they're in-depth and require a lot of coordination, but that's about it. It feels like you have to constantly grind gold just to stay relevant.
The average gold I'd spend on a single raid night would be something like 12k+. I didn't like to farm gold, I was a career gnomish engineer because I liked all the fun shit you could do. Want to try to mind control an NPC, but at the risk of being mind controlled yourself? Fuck yeah, do that.
Blizzard doesn't know what to do, they don't understand why people liked MMOs in the first place. Plus MMOs are kind of dead these days. Why would I pay $15 a month, having to spend 4+ hours a day just to be able to stay geared, when I could play a F2P game and have more fun with less time investment?

LoS wasn't that relevant, it was mostly FoH, LoS were always second-fiddle to FoH.
PoP was always EQ's best expansion for raid and group content, until Omens of War the only mistake EQ developers had made was PoK itself, which fucked with travel times but it was kind of necessary given the size of the world.
The top 1% did things first, yes, but everyone ended up raiding eventually, or they were shitteaters like the Brazilians in WoW who were kicked from guilds and ostracized and couldn't even level up, let alone anything else.
It was the poopsockers leading the push, figuring out the mechanics and how to work around them, leading the guilds and controlling it all through text chat, but the "normalfags" (A EQ "casual" would be equivalent to a WoW hardcore raider now.) were still 100% necessary members of the guild.
EQ trained players propped up WoW raiding in the early days, or people would still be trying to figure out how to deal with Vaelstrasz. (Though early content was Furor/Tigole's thing, and while the simplistic nature of Vanilla raids is undeniable, it's comparative difficulty in relation to the rest of the game was very useful for social building. Faceless masses of randoms hurt max level turn over, though that's a more complex issue than my autism and hypographia will allow for.
WoW brought in too many entirely new players to continue the serious raid trend, and the type of player EQ created (top 1% of the 1%) were wholly incompatible with the normal players. The game wasn't difficult enough to train players.
They erred rightfully so on the side of the normalfags who couldn't handle it. (Don't see anymore epic quests do you? No, it's for a reason. Players who figured out how to kite the fucking demons for their hunter bow were guaranteed to be worth 10 of any other regular player, so the shitter is discouraged, which is turn over, loss of revenue, yadda.)
TL;DR
The entire MMO genre is dead, Jewish accountants killed it. Nothing will save it and there's no undoing the damage done by this one title to this aspect of gaming.

The big mistake was thinking that all of the content of the game was just a massive funnel into Raiding and designing the game to behave as such. With an entire world distilled down to nothing but the waiting lobby for an arcade style cluster fuck. All for a tiny fraction of customers that enjoy a very specific style of play, and even then a large amount of them don't actually give a shit aside from a sense of superiority they can flaunt for weird e-cred. If we're being fair, about 90% of early raid difficulty was obfuscation of mechanics and intended gameplay.
The sad reality is that WoW was just never good. It was simply a game that started way ahead of EQ with quality of life improvements, and with a company that was legendary for its post release support for a subscription game. Everyone just expected the game to get better and better as time went on. At first, that's what happened, just not by any kind of proper development plan. In fact, I would argue that all of WoW's improvements were completely accidental in response to the fetish of raids.
Allow me a small anecdotal recount of WoW and what went wrong and why. This is mostly pulled from memory so much of it is probably inaccurate. WoW launched as a total mess, there were tons of simply busted spells, specs and even classes. I remember rogue being considered the most powerful class mostly because it had only 1 broken talent tree, and shamans being unstoppable pvp gods based entirely on frostshock and windfury weapon. Enemies could only have 8 debuffs on them at once (consider raids had 40 people back then), there were absolutely no tools in game for party communication on priority targets and the like. The game broke down into a horrible slog of a grind around level 30. However, a lot of the problems with the game were balance related, or related to core elements of combat and grouping. Thus as Blizzard worked to implement and fix raiding (between intentionally broken content to stop players from seeing the rest of the fights were bugged or incomplete) the game as a whole improved. This trend continued until BC, where the cancer became malignant.
By the end of Vanilla, many players were asking for content outside of raids. There were many skilled players that didn't want to be at the whims of 39 other assholes in order to progress their characters in any way. They got the .5 set to shut them up. However Blizzard found that only 1% of their paying subscribers ever even saw inside Naxx, a massive development investment of time and money. What was their answer? No, not develop a more robust game world that allowed for several different types of interconnected players to interact, simply funnel everything into Raids. Here, the idea was to make it as easy as possible to get into Raids. Streamlining the leveling process to be handled via quests, linking the dungeons of the world and rep grinds to naturally lead players to unlocking raids, and even presenting a few simple starter raids to get people into the rhythm of getting their groups together. Heck, they even implemented mini-raids at this time.
Of course, that was the wrong direction. The design goal to keep the game more viable for a longer timeframe would be to implement new systems and fine tune old ones just as the combat mechanics were. An actual crafting system would have been nice, as well as a more involved gathering system, a better trade system than a 0 effort auction house, perhaps more customization options, a better reputation system that allowed you more interaction with factions you enjoyed, linking PvP objectives and Battlegrounds to world drop rates and maybe even story progression, ect. Raids should have remained as a massive challange for larger groups, but it should have been a single gear in the WoW clock.
After this WotLK happened, and boy, did it happen. Very popular expansion that polished the art of the Raid to a mirror shine. Class balance better than it had ever been before, a well functioning UI for combat, a token system to allow players to overcome bad RNG for pre and eventually post raid tier content. With damn near nothing given to players outside the raid aside from daily repeatable quests for a little extra money.
Since then, it's been a downfall. Players leaving out of disgust once they accept that Blizzard will never add the content to the game it would require to fulfill the RPG part of MMORPG. Even worse, the small amount of choice and agency a player had has been painfully ripped out of the game at every opportunity because god forbid someone have enough power to make a mistake with their character. But why would players need to make a choice? There is only raiding. Everything only exists to prepare or execute the raid.

I remember when I switched over to WoW from runescape. I died in the wildy with a full set of rune armor, and it broke little 12 year old me. Then I switched over to WoW, learned that dying is only 10% durability loss. I had fun goofing around with proffs, specifically making my own rifles/ammo as a hunter, and open world PvP as I ran around harvesting ores to make my own bullets. Then WotLK launched, and I went from never having run a dungeon in my life to running a few in that expansion. The rest of the expansions then followed suit, heirlooms were released, only raids/dungeons mattered, and while I kept playing, I never had as much fun as little old Grabgan the Troll Hunter running around shooting at people trying to take my ore deposits. I kept coming back to the game every so often because my brother really, really, really likes it for some reason, enough to max level every class, but since he's not playing anymore (two jobs) I've more or less entirely parted with it. You could have fun in this game at one point, but when they entirely neutered professions and made it so the only neat stuff you could get was out of dungeons and raids, it really sucked out what little soul the game had still possessed.
