I always preferred TAS to manned speedruns. Manned speedruns always come with weird rules and arbitration and always carry with it attention whores and personalities that distract from it. To me the point of speedrunning is to see how fast a human can theoretically finish a game given a mythical perfect run. that idea to me is far more interesting than seeing imperfect players try to hone their autistic obsessions.

Speedrunning attracts socially isolated young men who spent more time with vidya than with friends. At their core, they're depressed, extremely vulnerable, and unsuccessful with women. Suddenly we're getting bombarded on all sides with radical egalitarianism cultural marxism for the layman, and these vulnerable young men are given an out. They're not just worthless cogs in the machine, they're special, and The Gay Community greets them with open arms and encourages them. They're given priority coverage over every other speedrunner, even if they're truly mediocre, and this is BIG for attention seeking behavior in an otherwise merit-based hobby.
Obviously this doesn't fix any of their core issues, and they inevitably self destruct, but other mentally ill and vulnerable young men are seeing this and being roped in by it as we speak.
