Are there any good games for the Master System? I have never played a MS game in my entire life. Will take any recommendations as long as you tell me a bit about the game, but not puzzle games. Not really a fan of puzzle games.

Sonic the Hedgehog is alright. Just a worse version of the game on the Genesis. If you like RPGs, I'd give Phantasy Star a look, granted the series is known to be pretty grindy.

Stuff like vampire is a pretty good Castlevania clone along with a few of the Alex kid games most of the first one as I recall. Golden Axe Warrior is also a fun Zelda clone with some nice graphics. There's also a bunch of Game Gear exclusive titles that ROM hackers have been hoarding back to the Master System like ristar and a few others I can't remember but they seem pretty good.

No. Go play some of the MD titles you probably missed instead. Here, I'll start you off.
<Crusader of Centy
It's a surprisingly good aLttP clone, absolutely worth a play if you're a fan of the genre.
<Bare Knuckle 3 (JP)
By far the best beat'em'up to come out of gen 4, even if you don't normally like those games, give it a try. The US version (Streets of Rage 3) is butchered and should never be played.

The games called Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Master System and Game Gear are completely different games than the Sonic and Sonic 2 on Genesis. They're also very good games in their own right. The next two 8-bit games, Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble, are also very good. There's a fifth one, Sonic Blast, but it's shit.
There are also a bunch of spinoffs like Sonic Drift and Drift 2, and the 8-bit version of Spinball. Tails Adventure is a Metroid style game that is actually great, though it doesn't play a whole lot like the main entries. Absolute must play. There's also Tails Skypatrol, which is basically a flying shooter, but I never really liked that one.

I don't recall which specific ones off the top of my head, but I know a whole ton of Master System games were never released in the US due to the system being a complete failure there. I never even realized Sega had a system out before the Genesis until reading about it on the internet in the 21st century. Everyone at the time had a Nintendo, and that was it until Genesis came around.
Lots of Master System games are also Brazil exclusives. I think that includes a few of the Sonic games which were otherwise only released on Game Gear.

Phantasy Star is a solid sci-fantasy RPG with a pretty neat 3d effect in dungeons
Notable for having been designed by a woman (Reiko Kodama), having a female protagonist, and actually being good. There's no excuse femdevs, shewas doing it in the 80s
Wonder Boy series
1 is what became Adventure Island on NES
Wonder Boy in Monster Land is alright but I dislike the time limit
Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap is a fantastic action adventure platformer with various character forms that affect movement options. Everyone really should play it at least once. Recently remade for modern systems so faithfully that your old passwords still work

What a shame, it's amazing comparing it to the photosensor in the zapper, the light phaser is remarkably accurate. Rescue Mission has you protecting a trolley from oncoming attacks from soldiers on all sides, mines planted on the rail road, stopping all kinds of enemies. It's a game that requires accuracy and snappy responses and it's extremely satisfying just from the simple fact it's so fast and accurate.

No, I remember Sonic being on Master System in the US because I saw it at Toys R' Us, just not on Game Gear. I think US Game Gear just launched with Sonic 2 and they never bothered releasing the earlier one, but again I could be wrong.

Dragon Crystal is a decent roguelike, if you're into those. There's a GameGear version also.
The Castle (pic) is a very good platform/puzzle game. I guess it's for the japanese version of the console, but if you're emulating it makes no difference. There's also an MSX version of this game. BTW it's not the same game as Castlequest which was ported to NES, that's actually the sequel to this game.
Otherwise I haven't played much other than a few already mentioned (the Wonderboy games are great!)
