there are countless cop movies but for some reason it seems a taboo topic in vidya (is there any surprise why?). So I ask thee for games where the protagonist is a cop/agent or similar

Most of the characters in resident evil are or were police officers.
Kurtis stryker from mortal kombat also comes to mind.
Theres also dynamite cops and time crisis.

SWAT is technically a branch of police force, and you could say TCTF is police. Both versions of Urban Chaos games are also starring cops.

Pirate the original version. The 'Definite' edition claims to improve the visuals but it just made the lighting look completely washed-out and the night/rain weather looks like absolute trash. Original also has much sharper and aesthetic visuals compared to the definite which looks like some kind of shitty ps3 port.

What's what's my favorite PC, played it all the time on my rocking geforce2 MX 400 graphics card. I think I also try the Xbox version in that was also good. But the thing I liked about the PC version was all the mods people came up with. Especially all the crazy Matrix and Anime stuff.
I never got too far into Max Payne 2 for some reason it just didn't grab me like the first one did. I still haven't played past that hospital intro level. Picked up Max Payne 3 and same thing I couldn't do them get through the first level without feeling bored and uninterested. Also everything just looks really ugly in that game.

Don't worry, the Twin Peaks-ness will shine right through over time. Perhaps annoyingly so, when the Twin Peaks-ness of it seeps directly into the gameplay during a chase sequence.

I want a game set in a dystopian 70s where you play as a vigilante cop a la Magnum Force, taking down criminals. You get to choose who you go after and how (even non-fatally in some instances) and those choices affect the story and how the your actions are perceived - evidence is also important, as evidence of crimes being committed to give to the local media is the line between you being viewed as a vigilante or as a serial killer or terrorist and affects the response of the authorities. Assuming, of course, that you assume responsibility in the first place and don't fly completely under the radar. Maybe if evidence is too hard to collect but you know that someone of consequence is guilty, you kill them and make it look like an accident. This also ties into evidence, but involves leaving none; if you blow it then the crime gets tied to the vigilante (who apparently just offed an upstanding citizen) and you'll be hunted down. Many of these things happen simultaneously - you might sneak into a house to bug a phone and then just leave it there until you get something juicy and in the meantime take photos of another target. You can choose your methods and spend whatever cash you get on better kit that opens new avenues of approach and let you grease palms where needed.

The most stable version is probably the Japanese PS3 release. We did not get this version
The western PS3 release is a port of the x360 version instead. I can't actually vouch for how stable it is as I haven't played it, but I've heard it's kind of buggy
The PC version is an initially terribly buggy port of the x360 version, and the current build on steam is still fucked. The gog version is relatively bug-free and the patch version is a letter higher than steam's (1.01b)
Control-wise, the game feels better with a controller but aiming is better with a mouse
If you don't have an Xbox controller you're going to be in for a tough time on PC; it uses directinput but assumes you're using an x360 controller and assigns the buttons and axes accordingly. Yes, even the right stick, which swaps axis directions because MS broke their own standard when they made xinput
I sort of got around this by tricking it with steam's customizable controller hooker (if there's one thing they're good for…), but using steam for non steam games in this manner requires being in big picture mode and forcing the matter in the shortcut options. I can't tell if I feel scrubby or oldschool for tweaking shit to this degree

Truth be told I don't honestly believe any of those soycucks could make a good cop story if they actually wanted to. There was this one old guy who'd write articles about stuff the police would go through in the Nigger equivalent of a No Go zone and it was always the same a horrific hellscape and the cops simply tried their best to just make their presence known on the outskirts because going in too deep was suicide.
I wish I could remember his name because he wrote a book and he still wrote some articles while he was in Mexico.
