Tetris is a much more subdued game where you need maximum concentration and you're not directly combating someone else you're isolated from them. It's why there's a more friendly competition aspect compared to fighting games where you're virtually beating the shit out of each other. It's like comparing a solitaire tournament to WWE

Eventually I had to put my SNES in storage and people stopped trying to beat me at it as a result, then i started hating all normalfags, including those people, because they were still as retarded as they were when they were 14. Tetris attack isn't really deeper, it just requires more reflexes than regular tetris. Fuck those x? after x13 too. At least puzzle league registered longer chains.

Yeah Planet Puzzle League is by far the most thrilling one to play for score because you continue getting points after 13x, you get a longer column to work with and thus simultaneous chaining becomes a commonplace trick, and it allows you to raise the column while a chain is in progress if you want.

TGM2TAP can be run in MAME but god knows how the input lag will be. TGM3TI is based on PC hardware arcade machine (Taito Type X) and the only emulator for that is similar to Wine so only exists on Windows. Arcade X is what you're after. For me it would not work with NVIDIA Optimus, had to force it to integrated graphics. It might just be NVIDIA in general. Unsure. Also note that even the real arcade machine has ridiculous amounts of input lag. Several frames. I don't know if this "emulation" makes it worse.

Another option is to use NullPoMino which has both those games implemented, but possibly not perfectly. It'll at least be close.

Nothing happens at all in tetris. Each player is just playing the game independently. "Competitive" tetris is the dumbest concept in existence.

NEStris and the Game Boy version are unfiltered RNG, so there's a raw 1/7 probability of receiving any piece at any time. That's why some competitions keep track both of the number of I-pieces received and how long an I-piece drought has lasted, although at most tournaments they use a special version of the game where both players are given the same RNG seed to keep things fair.

Later version of the game have some parameter in the code that prevents droughts from happening, so I-pieces are guaranteed to spawn at least once every 10 pieces or whatever

Game Boy Tetris is actually even worse than that.

https://harddrop.com/wiki/Tetris_(Game_Boy)#Randomizer

But yeah the better Tetris games avoid the use of naked RNG to prevent that sort of problem. Tetris Axis has a very boring "generate one of each of the 7 pieces, repeat" which is very flat in distribution. TGM2 attempts to re-roll a piece a few times if it's shown up recently on top of rigging the first couple to not produce overhangs. TGM3 does some weird "bag" system. The big exception is Bastard Tetris which is rigged to not give you what you need.

The reigning champion swears by double wells instead of single wells, so you're wrong on that point, and beyond level 19 there are some people who prefer center wells over right-aligned ones

5725b7  No.15589959

>>15589905

They are placing their pieces in different locations, but ideally they would have their field the same way. Clean on the top with no gaps in the stack and a single well for tetrises.

>>15589912

I guess I can see how a 2-wide well would allow for more lines cleared per pieces dropped. Center wells over right or left allignment is merely a preference, there is no speed difference as you would have to fill all sides of the field with pieces to clear lines anyways. The world record for sprint in nullpo was obtained with right-alignment.

>>15588903

>Later version of the game have some parameter in the code that prevents droughts from happening, so I-pieces are guaranteed to spawn at least once every 10 pieces or whatever

Most competently programmed versions of tetris use a shuffle rather than randomization, so you can draw one of each piece in any order until you've drawn them all once, then they are all available again and the pattern repeats. Every piece will appear equally as often as all the others, but in a variable order.

It's still RNG, but a lot less cancerous.

The randomizer from the official guidelines is of course better than the chaos on the Game Boy, but it isn't that great either. It paradoxically feels both too samey and occasionally really unfair, namely when you get three or four snake thingies (s or z) in a row. I'd prefer a randomizer with a bigger bag and a repetition-limiting rule. E.g. the rule could be that right after a repeated or mirrored piece in the sequence, there is not another repeated or mirrored piece. So sequences like these would not happen: sss, ssz, szs, szz. The standard bag of seven already makes something like sss impossible, but not ssz or even szsz.

I know that feel. I’ve been getting pretty decent at tetris in the last week so I can wreck the AI in Puyo Puyo Tetris so long as I’m playing Tetris, but I have yet to win a Puyo match on normal difficulty and just scrape through some of the earlier matches in the adventure mode. I’ll probably study >>15590645 and looks for some videos with tips.

On a side note, the adventure mode in PPT is actually pretty cute and charming with likable characters. I’ve been enjoying the game quite a bit so far, but it’ll be nice when I git gud.

NO! You don't let them spread. You run at them on mass screaming Tetris Theme A at the top of your fucking lungs until they run away and hide in their safe space. Then you run into their fucking safe space and do it again until they flee in terror towards home crying. You follow them onto the subway train home and stand behind them and do it again only quietly this time and with deadly intent. Once they are home safe and have sobbed themselves to sleep you kick down their fucking bedroom door and DO IT AGAIN! Them leave them be until one day they get a letter in their mail written in their pet parakeet's blood that says the following:

NA NA NA NA NANA NA NA NA NAN NAN!

There are no competitive females playing at the same level as males, excluding Scarlet in SC2, and guess what the secret to 'her' success is.

One last bump for visibility before the thread slides off the catalog, the qualifying rounds are almost over and the first round should be starting in about two hours, 6pm CST. Five people have already scored a maxout during the qualifiers, including Harry Hong and some kid named Joseph. I'm pretty sure he's the guy who's been working towards the Lines Cleared world record.

I’d say that I’d worry that they would try and push “diversity” into next years event with Tetris Effect, but I don’t think Tetris is violent or degenerate enough to get that audience. Also, I find myself rooting for Patrick.

He really was. He basically jobbed that polish player who was supposed to be a pretty big deal. Might have to watch more of his streams to get a good look at his hand techniques considering the announcers were pointing those out quite a bit. on a side note, is Joseph Filipino? Looks like a younger version of one of my buddies.

Also, not gonna lie I think that getting Tetris on the iphone helped me git gud so fast. I can just zone out and play it when I’m not busy or doing errands with my friends then play the better Puyo Puyo version when I get home. I might actually look into going to one of these tournaments in the future. Seems like it could be a lot of fun.
