A perfect design means that it can be reused endlessly (virtually unchanged) and people will still love it. Mega Man (9, 10, X Street Fighter) went retro and people loved it. Paper Mario looks the same in (Super, Sticker Star, Color Splash, Paper Jam) as he did in TTYD. Wind Waker Link's artstyle showed up a lot in later games (DS Zeldas, Minish Cap) and he's a distinct incarnation apart from regular Link. Toon Link's design in Smash games stays relatively the same, meanwhile regular Link changes a lot. (64/Melee: OoT Link, Brawl: TP Link, Smash 4: SS Link, Ultimate: BotW Link). It even stayed the same in Hyrule Warriors while regular Link was, again, different in design.
My point is that a perfect design hardly changes very little from game to game. The lean Pikachu today looks nothing like the fat Pikachu of yesterday. Meanwhile, Dragon Quest's Slime is still the same as ever.

Wild Arms series, in which they're effectively a living version of the "[X] Apple" consumables that boost levels or stats. I believe they debuted in Alter Code F (double checking bestiaries for the earlier games, they don't seem to be present, but might have been under a different name), and then carried on through to later games as a staple, as a rarely appearing enemy that can show up anywhere, at least on the overworld. Essentially a metal slime with more focus on speed than evasion, they have a single point of health, and an EXP formula of [Damage - 1], resulting in the overkill being your reward. Finding one is always a joy, assuming you're fast enough to kill it before it flees. They've also got an even rarer, faster green variant ("Super Grow Apple" in the image, known here as "Mega Grow Apple"), that short of the fastest characters in your group, using a very particular set up, or being lucky enough that they're in a middle HEX (in the case of 4 and 5) will almost always flee before you can do anything, and have a formula of [(Damage)x10 - 1] to make up for it. I botched a set-up on one of the Mega versions, but Jane had another idea, shot it twenty times in a row with a random Finest Arts proc for 23,000 damage, and I got 230k exp back instead of about 3000, and still a lot more than I would have with what I was setting up for.
Also a similar enemy called the Melchom/Melchom Lich, which has more health than the apples, and gives little/no EXP, instead absorbing magic damage dealt and adding it to their possible gella drops. Becomes a case of trying to load them up on easy money before they run off with it like a kike with a bag of shekels.

Toon Link is just another half-assed incarnation. Spirit Tracks released in 2009. Links design changes with each incarnation. What's perfect about that specific one? That it's the only one with sequels? Because again OOT -> MM. That it's the only cel-shaded Link? Because Breath of the Wild exists no matter how much you hate it. That it hasn't changed in over 10 years? It's a dead story arch. Spirit Tracks sold poorly. It's unchanged because no one gives a fuck about it.
