When you plug in a laptop, you can use it right away since it's gonna use the plug power instead of the battery, while also charging the battery as well.

Older laptops and many handheld devices however can't do this and instead they'll require a small amount of charge in the battery before they'll even turn on.

Basically, what OP is complaining about is that if he happens to run out of battery while playing outside, he can't just go back in, put the Switch in the dock and resume playing immidiatly, instead having to wait for a bit.

What OP isn't saying, because he ran out of "mouth without cocks" time, is that the Switch will turn itself off before you reach that critical point, and if you plug it in at that point, you'll be able to play right away.

The bigger problem apparently nobody can see, is that when the battery goes flat, and they stop making them, your system will be a fucking paperweight. Batteries don't last forever in storage, either. My original DS is probably on its last battery, purchased from China about 4 years ago. Getting batteries for my phone is proving to be difficult, as well. Mercifully, the PS3 and PS4 use the same battery types for the controllers, so your Dual Shock 3 can be resurrected with a PS4 battery.

The DS ran on much less power and so did the GBA and Gameboy. So charge times are longer because actual chargers can't go past a certain point without damaging the hardware. It's actually better then the VITA's charger conceptually, because you charge it where you store it. So after you're done with it, you can let it rest and pick it up later and play it immediately, while you might forget to charge the Vita via wired charger.

Consoles work immediately simply because they don't work on battery and just work on straight power connection, so there's no medium between the power cord and the actual console. If you think it were possible to cram an instant start in a console at that size that wasn't expensive, don't you think companies would do it?

Not exactly easy to make a custom lithium ion battery pack, and definitely not easy when they're supposed to be fitted into proprietary cases. Ironically, devices with non-replaceable, rechargeable batteries, are easier to make new battery packs for, since their batteries tended to just be adhered to the board inside of the case, not form-fitted into a custom-molded alcove.

A workaround I guess isn't necessarily creating a custom battery, or even replicating that battery, perhaps using an external battery pack that clips onto the Switch and going through the original battery, or finding a way to bypass the need for the internal battery to be charged for it to start and powering it with something else, I don't know but people will find a way, like I said there is an entire cottage industry that peddles in console mods, reproduction carts, battery save backups and custom consoles, sure the Switch is a far more complex piece of hardware than the snes/nes but I think they will bypass this limitation.

There's no way for Prime 4 in 2019, if we assume it entered development in 2017, which is a good estimate considering that it had a primetime reveal with nothing but a logo then it won't be done in less than 3 years, it's also being made by a studio that has never made a game like Metroid Prime, and a studio owned by another publisher that Nintendo won't invest in.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is a hard maybe, Yoshi had a trailer and a gameplay demo for it's 2017 reveal but missed 2018, Luigi's Mansion 3 has even less and was revealed much later.

I'm surprised casuals are buying the Switch, fortnite is on phones and everyone has a phone, it really offers nothing of value to most consumers, maybe they will just see pikachu and buy but i'd imagine word of mouth would ensure that that games sales fall off a cliff, assuming that they haven't already done so.

The switch cannot connect to any form of internet service that uses web login, which the vast majority of dorms and barracks use. Some apartment services, public internet services and some work internet also require this.

The switch being built with no web browser means it's flat out unable to log you in to any router that uses this without the day 1 update.

This is not a nitpicky issue, this is the first hardware I've ever owned where I am flat out unable to connect to the internet after taking it out of the box. The solution to let it connect to my internet required I have an internet connection to download an update.

In the end I had to hotspot my phone's internet connection and update my switch over that. I have never had to do this with any other system… Ever. This is a big fucking issue.

I guess this depends on "when" a Switch was charged, when it arrived at the store, when it was bought and when it was given to the kid. Parents usually pick these things up around October/November time. But mine didn't need to wait to be charged out of the box. There's only one time I can think of where I ran the battery right down to zero, but that's because I just didn't put it back the dock and didn't play it straight away. Maybe I'll try it again just to see.

When it comes to charging, the real issue is the power cables are pretty pathetic. My original one broke after a month (of not even constant use), which I got replaced by the store I bought it from but picked up a spare just in case. Switch has some weird ass bug where if you plug in the HMDI cable before the power cable, the dock doesn't work properly. No picture through the TV and to fix it, you got to turn it all off, unplug the HDMI and power cable, plug the power cable back in, plug the HDMI back in, turn on the power for the dock and then it works.

I've still got my N64 with the original power cables, the same expansion pack and I even use my Gamecube TV cable with it. Still works perfectly. I did find a bunch of other people that had problems with the power (found the solution to the 2nd problem I had on a Nintendo forum post). OP's issue with the Switch isn't even really a big problem compared with the other incompetent shit Nintendo have achieved with the Switch.

It's an alright console thingy, it's not the best but it could've been allot worse also.

So my main complaints are that most of the ports of the games are meh at best. And I'm one of those guys that buy allot of dumb stuff on the switch just to have a good before nappy time gaming time console which the switch is for me at-least.

It has taken over that role from my psp and 3ds, more so the psp because I usually find dumb titles that I think look cool on psp and buy them.

Now Switch has done that for me, so now I find a dumb title on the switch pre order or buy it outright and then hope for the best.
