Honestly, this is one case where I could forgive bad art style since the game would undoubtedly lend itself to good gameplay. It's a shame that Capcom is a tad bit retarded and scrapped the thing because of office drama and thinking the game was going to be a "huge gamble", even though they could have seen what Metroid Prime did to the Metroid series and realize that's complete bullshit (assuming they marketed it properly). 2010 Capcom really made some dumb as fuck decisions that led to them becoming the kikey assholes they are today. Same shit with Breath of Fire 6 and how that should have been a side game and not a numbered one alogn with releasing a PROPER FUCKING 6th game in the series instead of Japan only mobile bullshit that was even hated by them.

The studio that was making it, Armature Studio, was founded by the former lead director, lead art director, and lead technical engineer of Retro Studios, who made Prime. To what extent is it a rip off if you made the thing that you're ripping off? It's a commissioned work for another established series, so it still feels thoughtless and cynical of them to make such a similar game, but that makes it an issue of stagnation or laziness, not plagiarism. They would have to wildly expand on Prime's mechanics for it to not feel like a half-assed money grab, which it probably was, since it was Inafune's idea, but they may have been able to save it.

That was the canon backstory of the Sonic games when it came to their Western release back in the 90's; but the Eastern release of the games originally had Sonic as the leader in a rock band, only pursued after Robotic because he crashed his concert on South Island, and Robotic's entire motivation for getting all the chaos emeralds is to boil the world's largest egg. There really isn't a concrete backstory to the Sonic games released prior to Adventure, and Sega hasn't came out and said anything concrete or official on which games are and are not canon. In fact, it's completely up to whatever mood Sonic Team is in which determined which titles do and don't count (Because they change up the canon with every new release).
Personally, I just consider everything after Sonic '06 to be non-canon, because that was the last title to involve an original member of the original Sonic the Hedgehog team.

Nobody in Hollywood would bother to really understand the ideas behind Mega Man, and if they did, then they wouldn't be the sort of person who's accepted in Hollywood and getting funding. Light does grow as a character. He grows from a young man with a strong sense of justice into a megalomaniac high off his own ego. It just so happens that all that growth happened in the first episode during the offscreen period between Light finding the Death Note and Ryuk confronting him in his bedroom.
