The gameplay is pretty solid, but wait till you get to the ending. It manages to be pretty cringe with a hint of fedora tipping.

I haven't played it but what I've heard is that Lightning is an insufferable Mary Sue and written like garbage from someone who waifu'd her during development or something

I didn't hate it, I just didn't care about the story because I couldn't finish any of the other godawful games in the trilogy and I didn't know what the fuck was going on in this one. So for me this was just a throwaway but fun game about running around doing random quests and dressing up the tranny.

Because they were trying to ride a dead horse. 13 was a disaster for FF fans, 13-2 was a little better on the gameplay site, but the story was so unbearable confusing that when the LR announcement came up, everyone just flipped them off. Still enjoyed LR, tho.

It's a pretty big mess of a game, Lightning just isn't that great of a character, serah and other serah lookalike are cute but that's about it. Most of the characters were in my opinion just not that great.

I dont think thats the reason for it. The development for 13 was in hell for a long time and they had problems with the crystal tools engine which made them cut a lot of content.

Lightning was in it. She's a boring Cloud in drag who goes the Kerrigan route of being Space God.

The character designer was so infatuated with his own creation it was sickening. In a video he talks about how utterly perfect she is, and while the game was being created (or at least FF13) the staff were mandated to have a picture of Lightning within eye shot in all of their cubicles.
