Has there been any breakthroughs yet when it comes to reducing input lag while emulating old games? Can you personally even play well with the input lag? I can’t tell if I’m just being picky with it.

You're autistic. The input lag is really negligible.

Sadly, no. You can get used to the input lag though, but don't expect to play things like Castlevania or Megaman properly with it.
Maybe in 5 years the emulators will be finally perfected.

That sucks, especially considering the classic Castlevanias were going to be the next thing I played through. Any chance you know if the 3DS version of Castlevania 3 suffers from any issues? I might just buy that for now if it’s a decent port.

Nigger, there's differing amounts of lag dependent on the emulator and your screen. Most NES emulators have negligible lag, especially Mesen.

Yes, Retroarch's hard gpu sync improves things significantly, and now the new Read-ahead mode make games less laggy than on real hardware. Unfortunately read-ahead mode doesn't work on all cores yet.
>Can you personally even play well with the input lag?
Yeah on JRPGs and slower stuff sure. ButSome games are unplayable if there's too much lag. Like shmups and tricky platformers like Gimmick.

why do old ass games have input lag?
was it not that way on original console?
e90c52 No.15543005
>>15542994
I believe there was always a slight input on those old consoles, but there are a lot of things that contribute to it when it comes to emulation. The screen your using, settings in the program, and settings in your computer can all effect it. Right now I think I've got something like a 6 or 7 millisecond delay.
d05e41 No.15543009
I've never had input delay problems with any emulator.
Except for DraStic because not only it's on Android it has lots of delay itself.
Delay under a bit more than 100ms is very barely noticeable. Almost no game requires reaction times so small. It's such a short amount of time that if you didn't manage to dodge something with it, you'd most likely not be able to react without he delay, even if it's added on top of your actual reaction time.

I've played shit like MMX legacy collection on PS4 without issue, you adjust to input lag fairly quickly. Unless you're speedrunning and depending on frame perfect shit you can deal with input lag. And even then I've seen some cases of speedrunners going to marathons and getting fucked up on CRTs because they're actually accustomed to input lag from LCDs. Some people are just shit at vidya and need another excuse.

When the FPGA stuff started coming out they claimed that it significantly reduced the input lag over emulating on an HDTV. I have played SuperNT and I can say it actually felt pretty good for what little I played. Which is saying something because the second I touched like Wii U VC stuff or recently the Megaman Collections I just recoiled from the input lag.
When this stuff was coming out the retroarch scene called them out saying that they fixed input lag a while ago and that emulation is still the better choice. I heard people agreeing with them at the time but never looked into it since I got a CRT with old consoles and everdrives so I have no need.

Ooh, or how about the lag from the input which is negligible.
Don't forget CRTs have infinite framerate and 144hz not real it has a TOTALLY REAL visual lag of 9ms for every frame

Yeah, I think at this point I’m just going to have to call around and see if any of my friends or family members still have one they wouldn’t mind giving up. I’ve got one myself but it emits an annoying high frequency noise. I do have a buddy who is really good at electronics so I’ll ask him about it first and then see if I can’t get together with him to build an emulator machine or something to hook up to the tv.

That looks very promising. After messing around a bit I’ve cut back on the input lag with Nestopia to a point where it’s much less noticeable now. Still, I’ll have to mess around with that a bit, especially considering it has a better response than the actual consoles. Really neat stuff.

Unless you don't have a 2k/4k Display that can do a decent job of emulating colorbleed for dithering effects, there's really no reason to have a CRT now.
Although if you have a Weaker Videocard or adapter that can output to SVideo, then maybe you'd want to check out a CRT
