It's serviceable but not as memorable as the old megaman games.
Levels are longer and challenging, if you play in the old style. Lots of instant death areas. Most normalfags will likely just get wrecked by the level and collect bolts to buy items to make the game much easier so they can actually complete the game. Some items seem broken like bigger pellet size or just auto charge. Slowdown time seems the most useful. The Power up gear is only good to power-up boss abilities and used on bosses.
There are some wonky physic in areas like where it works sometimes and then it doesn't. You'll likely get stuck in narrow vertical jump areas while in an instant death area. I get it's trying to appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers and it kinda does it right. The only weak aspects are the music and some areas where the physics mechanics don't work like they're intended. Good game overall.

It's not very good. The art style is bland. The music is quite bad. And the gameplay has taken 10 steps backward. You could dash and wall jump in mega man games over 20 years ago but you can't in this brand new one.
There's some weird shit going on with jumping up between small sections that's really glitchy.
The level designs are as mediocre as ever, the enemy placement is irritating and that "gears" system thing is just a ripoff of what clover did in Viewtiful Joe 100 years ago.

Because honestly, every aspect of it is actually really fucking good, but there's something about the entire presentation that feels very, "un-Rock Man." And I use the Japanese name, because of the importance of the tone it sets for the source material.
How do I put it? Like, Mega Man's overall tone, for most of the series (since 7, and to a lesser extent 8, kind of break this), is very "Rock." Go listen to any of the really good songs from the 8 bit games, and then listen to Acid Man's theme, and you'll see probably start to see what I mean. I really can't put my finger on it, the closest way to describe, I've found, is

I fucking figured it out. The songs are too long.
Look.
MM11:
>Impact Man: 1 minute 48 seconds (108 seconds)
>Acid Man: 1 minute 34 seconds (94 seconds)
>Block Man: 1 minute 33 seconds (93 seconds)
>Torch Man: 1 minute 11 seconds (71 seconds)
>Blast Man: 1 minute 8 seconds (68 seconds)
>Tundra Man: 1 minute 5 seconds (65 seconds)
>Fuse Man: 60 seconds/1 minute
>Bounce Man: 57 seconds
Average: 1 minute 17 seconds (77 seconds)
MM9:
<Tornado Man: 1 minute 12 seconds (72 seconds)
<Splash Woman 56 seconds
<Concrete Man: 55 seconds
<Plug Man: 54 seconds
<Galaxy Man: 47 seconds
<Hornet Man: 45 seconds
<Magma Man: 44 seconds
<Jewel Man: 43 seconds
Average: 52 seconds
MM11's Soundtrack is on average about 25 seconds longer than MM9's OST.
But that's not all, for you see, when listening back to each song, to pin down exactly when they begin to loop, the melodies in 11's OST have tons of variation in them, where as before the major loop, there's tons of repetition in 9's OST. I don't know the term, either the bridge or the chorus in 9's is often times a variant on the main melody. And the thing about 11's OST is that if you break down the individual verses of each song, I'd say like 80% of the time they're strong enough to be fleshed out into a full song, akin to how 2 and 9 handle it. And that's not even getting in to how each song makes use of sampling, audio effects, and general tone of a melody, to match the mood of the stage they're in.
So what we're left with is an OST that isn't necessarily "bad" (listen to an 8 bit cover of the songs if you don't believe me, they suddenly sound completely in line with older mega man games), but tends to drag on nearly half a minute more than it should for that sweet sweet sweet spot of a mega man tune. Lacks the repetitive variant on a single strong melody nature of said classic mega man tunes. And with radically different instrumentation, comes across as completely differently styled.
TL;DR: "MM11's OST is demonstrably lacking the tight focus something like 2 or 9's has, particularly with length (11's songs are too long) and reiterating on the core melody."

I'm saying 9 gets the absolute most it can out of those (average) 52 seconds it possibly can, by strongly establishing the melody, building on it, and introducing those other parts to it (verses?) that build upon the already established melody.
11, by comparison, lacks the same laser guided focus to the songs that 9 has. I'm not articulating this well since I don't know shit about music theory, but like, the easiest way to describe the problem with 11's OST is that the melodies feel "bloated" if that makes sense.
Look, I really am struggling to articulate it, but I know for a god damned fact that I can remember more of 9's themes (I still always forget Plug Man's), than 11's. And there's a reason for it, and I think what I figured out here is pointing towards something.

I had issues with the ost as well. It's not that it was bad, it just doesn't stand out, and is left to fade with the background. It sounds like it's the synth instruments they used that dulled the bite of the tracks rather than the score itself. Like they used dance remixes rather than the actual soundtrack. There's also only one Wily track and it doesn't evoke any feeling like the Wily stages of the past.
Overall I enjoyed the game, but the music was slightly forgettable due blending into the background. I also thought it would be better with more paths and a few more stages like intro and middle stages, or something like retro boss stages before Wiley's castle.

No, for sure it's the instrumentation.
Honestly I think probably a mix of chiptune and rock would've worked best for the soundtrack, or something with "bite" as you called it.
If you arrange the melodies in some famitracker type of thing, they suddenly become ridiculously strong. Maybe not full anamanaguchi, but anything to strengthen how present they sound.

To be quite honest, anything after X3 was shit. The second the series left the SNES it went downhill fast.

X3 is one of the weaker games though, I'd say X4 was good but still the quality of the first 2 X games was never recaptured
