The only real downsides were hardware limitations, which caused some flickering or slowdown when you had too many sprites on a line or objects on screen.
Other than that, pixel-perfect games age pretty fucking well, and I think a large part of that is that they mostly play at 60fps. Graphics were nice, but they were abstract representations of things, and were understood as such, aside from some cool manga-style cut-scenes like in Ninja Gaiden. It was gameplay that mattered, and that had to feel good, and it was done at 60 because that's how games feel best. Not too fast, not too slow.
Less is more is also a factor, and a good rule to follow in general.

I would disagree. It takes a bit of getting used to many of the old 3d games but if they're done by a competent team then they will never "age". Quake and Spyro always come to mind when I think of 3d that remains in peak condition no matter how many years pass.
If anything its modern 3d that has a harder time standing out as something of higher quality. I'd guess it has something to do with the game aesthetics where even big titles did their best to experiment and try to look different while these days unless its some indie shit you'll just get AAA games taking the safe route doing their best to look average as fuck because it's known to be appealing to the majority of the audience.

>You mean conventional CRPG mechanics?
Terribly implemented into this game.
>The ones where you roleplay a character with statistics instead of relying on your own skill?
And NV did it way better, instead of translating hit chances it should have been something to hinder the player, because he is still playing the character., if your character is shit at sword fighting then the mechanics should reflect that the way in New Vegas the guns swayed and jammed because you were shit with them.
>So you prefer games that allow for an action RPG option (NV)
NV being 1st/3rd person makes it obligatory for it to convey that perspective as a Role-Playing game. Plus Morrowind isn't even a CRPG, as it doesn't have proper skill checks, nor does it offer proper choice and consequence in quests, you can't drastically alter outcomes. Morrowind has nothing on NV in RPG mechanics and immediate gameplay. And I'm saying this as somebody who prefers the TES setting over Scifi in general.
>schew roleplaying elements for shooting and exploration (STALKER)
You are trying to equate them, I said that I'm not trying to be those gameplay purists that are hyperautistic if gameplay isn't up to some perfect standard otherwise the game is shit. STALKER is way more reminiscent to FO4 its its core gameplay but actually its a good game. Of course Stlaker has clunky shooting, but it is not as so bad it makes the good part of the game, such as the freedom or atmosphere, unenjoyable some people may even say it adds to it.
>Seems like you just don't like CRPGs.
Neither does Morrowind fulfill its RPG elements to the fullest as older games nor is the immediate action gameplay enjoyable enough to warren you experiencing its other elements. It just fill the open world RPG formula with interesting quests and story but does nothing to actually make it a CRPG aside from faction. Morrowind is a sandbox adventure game with RPG elements, not a CPRG. New Vegas is a choice and character driver CPRG that is 1st person instead of being asymmetric like FO1 and 2.
Morrowind is way closer to a fantasy life simulator Daggerfall strived to be, though having the sandbox elements massively dumbed down in exchange for a more well crafted world.
Actually thats besides the point, the point is the Morrowind's moment to moment gameplay is so unenjoyable that it detracts from its elements plus is way closer to the core appeal of the game, the moment to moment adventures you find and do its world. In New Vegas and classic Fallout the core appeal isn't the moment to moment gameplay, its the stories and quests in the world that are made for you to live out the actions of the character you desire to play, the actual moment to moment gameplay is just the shit inbetween you could cut out and just make the series a CYOA and it would still work whiles Morrowind and the rest of TES would be bogged down to some visual novel that you can just mash next and it will never matter.
Here is a food analogy: NV has non salted boiled potatoes and amazing gourmet meat, MW has raw potatoes and well done meat with black pepper and salt.
So no, I like CRPGs, MW just fails at it.

(Weapon Skill + (Agility / 5) + (Luck / 10)) * (0.75 + 0.5 * Current Fatigue / Maximum Fatigue) + Fortify Attack Magnitude + Blind Magnitude
That's the formula for chance to hit in Morrowind. Blind having a positive effect on hit chance is actually a bug corrected in the code patch so we'll change it come time to calc. Lets roll an average "sword specialization" character.
>Dark Elf Male
>Birthsign: Lady
>Specialization: Combat
>Favored Attributes: Endurance, Luck
>Primary Attributes: 40 Str | 40 Int | 30 Wil | 40 Agl | 50 Spe | 75 End | 55 Pers | 50 Lck
>Derived Attributes: 58 Health, 40 Magicka, 185 Fatigue, 200 Encumbrance
>Skills: 40 Long Blade in Major Skills, rest don't matter
I say "average" because I'm assuming you're not trying to minmax all the way. We'll minmax later though. Now we run calcs for this character. I'll put us at 50% fatigue since you said you run everywhere.
(40 + (40 / 5) + (50 / 10)) * (0.75 + 0.5 * 92 / 185) + 0 - 0 = 52.93%
Assuming my calculations are correct, you should have at least 53% chance to hit any enemy in the game at level 1 even with only half your fatigue. With a full bar you actually have a 66% chance of hitting your enemy, and that's easy to achieve by just preparing a bit before a fight.
If we were to minmax every single possible option to get the best hit chance possible at level 1, it actually comes out to an impressive 87.5%. Anyone who says its impossible to hit things in this game is retarded. You don't even have to build absolutely perfect to do it.

Yeah nah he's got a point, that's pretty fucking horrible chances if you're swinging at a random animal. Morrowind's weapon hit chance calculation in general is shit though.
