They actually are correct that women are a mostly untapped market for video games. They just are going about catering to that market completely wrong. The average woman is not into the games the AAA market makes. They are making the same mistakes the comic book market is making. There have always been comic books for girls and they are fucking popular too. They just on average were not as popular or being turned into big budget movies like the male centred ones. So they started trying to make male-centred comics that also are appealing to women. They ended up attracting no new female audience and alienated the vast majority of their existing audience. Now the comic book market is fucking dead and the western games industry will follow suit. If you want to make big budget games for women just make a visual novel with a big budget. Have excellent voice acting and well animated scenes. Hire writers that are popular with women as consultants. Invest in technology to make more robust relationships and choices. Essentially put all the money you put into fucking Assassin's Creed or whatever and make the game Telltale claimed to be making for all those years but never really did. Make choices actually matter if you have all that money you can create scenes most players won't see. Nope instead of actually investing and working to cultivate this market let's just slap tits on the PC and make all the female characters hideous.
