Agnus was human but he believed Demons to be superior. They are faster, stronger and more resilient. In order to gain power and become stronger, to rule over all others, you naturally have to become a Demon and lose your humanity, since that's just holding you down. That's the idea behind the whole order and it's major plan for the Pope. To shed humanity and embrace Demonhood in order to become strong and defeat actual demons.
Now in comes Dante, a man that's half Demon and half Human, trying his damn best every single day to retain what little humanity he still has because he despises his demon side. Dante knows the strength that demon powers can give you, but he also knows the dangers of shedding your humanity and what demons actually do to people. Dante puts a very high value on his own humanity and if there's anything that carried him over the years, the only thing that keeps him going, it's the human part of him.
So when he looks at some stupid motherfucker that's throwing away the most precious part of his being just for the sake of getting buffed up and getting some wings, someone that acts in precisely the oposite way that Dante lives, what the fuck did you think he'd feel or think about that guy?
Dante wasn't having a bonding moment, he was mocking him. Agnus believed demonhood would make him stronger, Dante merely replied "as long as you think like that, you're never gonna understand the value of your own humanity"
It's actually a pretty deep message and story told in a very quirky, funny and lighthearted way and yet it goes over the head of retarded Shonen Jump readers because they are borderline sociopaths that see nothing wrong with what Agnus did or put any value in actually caring about someone other than yourself.
