The ugliest thing about it is the fact the slide is fucking hugh mongous. A good pistol has what's called a "low bore axis". This means the barrel is low enough in the frame that is lines up with the shooter's hand. This is desirable because the recoil is directed towards the shooter's palm, and makes the gun controllable. The High Point is functionally hideous because it has a disgustingly high bore axis.

You think because it looks like a bulky, cartoonish monstrosity from an 80’s sci-fi Robocop movie, designed specifically by people who have no idea about guns beyond an extremely basic level, that its futuristic? It looks like a fucking toy, and might as well be one with how unreliable the fucking thing is. Even after the break in period it feels like one more round will do it in for good. The best way to describe it is like a stick spear. It works, sure, but everytime you use it you’re scared that the goddamn thing is going to fall apart if you even nudge it the wrong way or rub it up against a tree.

There has been some contention about that. Some videos have shown up of an AK with the breach exposed to mud, which will jam due to more egress points, while an AR might do better due to tight tolerances. The logic being that lower tolerances help with poor maintenance, but tighter tolerances will do more to keep dirt out in the first place.
It's solid logic, but flat out, there are plenty of stories about people kicking open the bolt of a rusted shut AK and shooting it all day, or of using buckets of coke to clean an AK buried for years and it working fine afterwards. You could never, ever expect an AR to do anything remotely like that, it's just to much of a precision piece of engineering. The reliability of the AK is still incredible.

Because the AK's action makes it more tolerant to rust, dirty gas port, and low quality materials. However, the military would benefit greater from AR's, it's more accurate and jam-proof. One guy on youtube fired 500+ rounds nonstop with it, it might not be the most durable rifle in the long run but in a combat situation it's the most dependable one. You wouldn't want to use automatic rifle if you're looking for durability anyway.
