Do you like caves of qud? I really like it. My favourite character is a mutant with light manipulation, sunder mind and Beguiling. Light manipulation to handle easy enemies, sunder mind to handle beefy enemies, all while having a monster pet with increased skills thanks to Beguiling. I also nearly put all my points into willpower to boost my mental powers, which also has the added benefit of making buying and selling stuff a viable option. Have you played it?

The main two devs are Unormal and Ptychomancer (their online handles, can probably find them on twitter). Unormal is a Goon, not sure about Ptychomancer, though neither of them appears to be obnoxious. They have a third dev called Inurashii who seemingly does the writing, and is the one who has (possibly) inserted some kind of fursona (this being Q-Girl, the Bear in Grit Gate). The third is seemingly a tranny, and the Discord server for the game is overrun with Goons and trannies. Attached picture is their Code of Conduct.
Game is cool, it could possibly get bogged down with some batshit insane amount of progressive gunk at some point though if it didn't happen already I guess they're relatively sensible. Only stuff I'm aware of is Q-Girl, Asphodel's pronoun being Xir, and apparently some hidden gay romance in the new Hindren village.

It really isn't that contrived. The Putus Templar are basically warriors from human arcologies that aren't mutated that roam around killing mutants (or pretty much anything else) that cross their path, they're at odds with the Barathrumites (tinker caves bears) because the latter are seemingly somewhat influential and oppose them ideologically. The spiel in their CoC is entirely a product of the goon cliche that infests the server.

If this game gets mega pozzed in the future at least there is the possibility of making a fork that isn't obnoxious. Make the Putus a joinable faction and even give you mutant purge quests. The fork will become the de facto version and all the original devs will commit suicide. The end
Also these devs are actually very good at providing consistent updates; strange for people who probably live in California where instead of working hard they take a siesta and drink a cum martini. I predict that there will be some tranny drama or mental spergout that will totally derail development.
Again it is a shame because the game is actually very enjoyable and unique.

This isn't a question about a specific game but a game mechanic. Draining.
In some old hack and slash crawlers, draining was bad news. If you didn't have resistance, you could permanently lose stat points. In some games, you couldn't even visit a church to restore them, they were gone forever. Of course, you could farm for some stat-boosting equipment, but that only helped somewhat.
What do you think mechanically if a draining monster only temporarily lowered your stats, and returning to town paying a hefty cost to the healer to restore them? However if you die with temporarily lowered stats, it would become permanent. Is that a fair compromise?
