Can someone please explain the appeal of truck simulators? Am I correct in thinking it's exactly that, with real-world distance deliveries? Do people really just drive at a truck's speed for hours on straight roads?

>Can someone please explain the appeal of truck simulators?

It's relaxing. Listen to the radio and dick off delivering potatoes.

You can turn off the speed limiter and download an engine mod.

Why not just listen to an actual radio and do something far more entertaining instead?

d74286  No.15520442

>>15520437

Man, sometimes you're just fucking busted but hate the concept of doing nothing but sitting and listening to radio and just need something to busy your hands with. Hard to explain.

I had fun for probably 10 hours but then it just became tedious.

As someone who has dumped literally hundreds of hours into this, it's basically comfy Audiosurf. At one point the community was so large we were getting on-air callouts from European DJs.

Real world fucking DJs were sitting there giving shout-outs to virtual truck drivers live on the air. Shit was surreal.

03625f  No.15520755

It's not even a simulator. There is no risk of you getting robbed at the end of a delivery.

Not just no risks, even if you hit police car its not a big accident to your budget. Its a walking simulator on wheels.

912bcc  No.15520773

>>15520769

Walking simulators have an exploration aspect. This is just straight cruise driving. Slight taps on the steering wheel is all the excitement you'll get.

Looks like another normal day in France according to the GPS. They were probably hoping to rob a tour bus.

I dunno about others here but for me the appeal is a decent recreation of real world trucks in a relatively comfy game where I can listen to a playlist of Patrice O'neal podcast episodes.

>with real-world distance deliveries

It's not real distance, otherwise you'd be driving for days just to deliver from one side to the other.

>>15520741

Ha. I remember this the first few weeks it came out and Hotmix radio was giving us a shout out.

>>15520773

You also have to worry about road rules.

>Slight taps on the steering wheel is all the excitement you'll get.

That's not entirely true.

When you're just starting the game, the excitement comes from exploring europe in general, bonus points if you're from a featured place.

After the exploration has come, the different mechanics still keep the game fresh, somewhat:

>weather

>radio

>random events

>traffic rules

>hiring and managing your own trucking empire

>picking convoy deliveries where guards/police are both behind and in front of you and you're carrying a very wide cargo

>picking rush deliveries where you have to deliver your cargo really fast

In the end, I think the players that stick to truck sims are those who 'want to drive, but don't want to drive'.

How is game after 60 DLCs? How is the MP? Bought it like really early and surely wont buy new dlcs and will rather pirate

Customization is nonsense bloat. Get the additional maps and heavy cargo.

On the matter of “play the game just because it’s comfortable to drive around”, is Forza Horizon 3 any good in that regard?
