I feel like Venom is one of those characters that should be easy to work with in vidya, but has more failures than successes. A similar phenomena happens with Alien - plenty of representation, but most of it's shit. A big fucking shame, because there's so much potential but it's usually wasted on soulless cashgrabs or just shitty shovelware.

The point is the "style" of combat that it popularized (which Shadow of Mordor used) - AKA "spam 1-2 buttons to have the game auto-play for you".

Boredor games use the same concept as the bamham games but their combat is actually worse because youre actively punished for playing smart.

Where are the Orcs with Shields? Where are the Ranged Orcs? Where are the Berserkers? Why is the first General just a regular one with no special ability of his own?

Vaulting over Orcs for immunity stops being a reliable strategy once you go up against Berserkers. Mashing attack does the same.

Mashing LeftClick and even stunning stops being a reliant strategy once there's Orcs with Shields.

When both show up, spamming either will fuck you up.

Idling staying around barely moving or just focusing on nearby orcs will also fuck you up when Archers start taking shots at you.

It's even worse when tougher Generals show up that are immune to Stuns or Finishers or vaults or pretty much any basic ability you see here, even worse when they have poison ranged attacks or one-shot you as well.

This video is like playing the tutorial mission of literally any videogame and complaining that it's too easy! It's the first bits of the game, where you're supposed to still be learning the world around you and getting to grips with your basic moveset, you're not gonna get heavier enemies thrown at you that force you to start using more advanced techniques. He's not even in the second map, for fuck's sake.

Shadow of Mordor wasn't even that good a videogame. A very entertaining power-fantasy with a lot of neat ideas, but the combat is just decent and the Nemesis system doesn't leave up at all to any hype it got because of the main story they wanted to tell. There's a lot you can criticize the game for, so why the fuck would anyone use this video as criticism when it only makes you look like a retard when doing so?

You can say the same about DMC. See, the challenge of the game shouldn't be "not dying" but finishing the game with style. In that sense, even a health bar is redundant since in games like Batman and DMC, a single mistake or even damage itself lowers your style bar.

You know what would be a pretty nice concept? If the style bar was your health bar. Imagine if in the venom game something like destruction was your health bar and you are encouraged to keep destroying things to make yourself stronger and not die, and if you don't, you die.

I seriously doubt he can do so unless he's only up against very basic thugs. Later ones need different strategies to tackle. It's never anything too hard to figure out, but you can't restrict yourself to a single key to do so.

How so?

From what I remenbered, there were plenty of environmental kills like barrels and fireplaces to exploit during combat, throwing orcs onto each other, using lesser orcs to charge your exectution to dispatch special ones, etc. Even turning orcs to your side temporarily or just plain scaring them with some moves.

BamHam city had some more variation with the enemies. Not too much, it was mostly the same thing, but I think there were a few new types there. It also made later fights in the game usually involve mostly special types of thugs, each with a weapon that required different aproaches as well.

The fun thing about BamHam combat was never how deep or complex it was anyway, but rather that it plays more like a rythm game. You gotta time your puches for the critical hit since it gives you special moves twice as fast and because the whole point isn't just to beat a fight but trying to do it all in one clean motion without being interrupted once. It's more of a show than a fight but not as clanky or hard as DMC (that still manages to be more impressive though).

None of those games are fun.
