I find the concept of modding the original game really interesting, with your new-fangled custom splatfests, custom music, and the ability to play other game modes for a splatfest. I severely hate a lot of elements in this video, namely:
1. The changes from C'mon! to To me! and Booyah! to Nice! I understand that C'mon is a vague direction, but This Way! seems a little less retarded. The change to Booyah! seems stupid, since it's an established flavor thing.
2. Custom music is cool, but the sound mixing is atrocious. It sounds like the music is coming out of a public bathroom from a portable radio from 1992. It reminds me of my childhood.
3. Having a minute and a half version of Now or Never! seems a little silly, considering splatfest matches are supposed to be three minutes long. The song should honestly be 30 seconds, since it's only the last 30 seconds of the match that count. I noticed there was no music during the last few seconds of the overtime. Also, having a song for the 1 minute left mark in a mode that has a dynamic time doesn't make any sense.
4. I hate the change from Game! to Stop Battling! because I don't like things that are different.
5. I'm a kid now. I'm a squid now. I probably have autism as well.
6. Octolings are inferior.
7. I miss Museum D'Alfonsino, Urchin Underpass, and Saltspray Rig.

The music I put in sounded just fine when I played it in game. It could just be because of how he converted the music files to BFSTM before he imported them into the randomizer. The converter I use most of the time has an option to adjust the quality, and has a default setting to limit the file output size of the converted file (not at computer so can't check right now, but almost certain it was around 4 MB), which I disabled to set the sampling rate at maximum. The guy in the video probably used the same converter and just used the default settings when converting the files.
The major hassle about putting the music files in is getting it to the right length - if it's any longer than the actual in-game music, it won't play and you'll instead hear distorted sounds and fragments of the last song that played (except actual music that plays during matches, there I was safely able to fit files between 4 and 5 minutes long). So you have to cut the file you want correctly, and loop accordingly. This is why the song that plays at 1 minute has been giving me a lot of shit: if it's too short it cuts off early, and if it's too long I'll have to put up with a shitty variant of soundhoarding for the minute. And I have to go through remaking the audio file and converting it each time I want to adjust it. I'm surprised he even managed to get it to work in Rainmaker (I can't even get it to work in Ranked for whatever reason) but the game could just be interpreting the music for the match as having the same format as turf war. Even then, he could have remade the 1 minute bfstm with the loop but I doubt he'd want to go out of his own way find the best sample number to start the loop from considering he's probably only ever going to use it for this splatfest. I agree that it should start at 30 seconds, but 1 minute remaining is the standard time when that music sets off and I don't see a mod for that happening any time soon.
As for the "C'mon/Booyah", I think that's just a localization.

I really only got the randomizer to replace the music that plays during matches. For me, a modest amount of effort to get a collection of techno/trance music in the game is worth not listening to the same 9 songs from Squid Squad or Chirpy Chips or whatever the fuck that third band is supposed to be. The others I really don't care much about since I barely listen to them for more than ten seconds anyway, but I could work on replacing them when/if I have time to kill.

Need to follow up on this because I'm a faggot and I jumped to conclusions way too fast.
See, the shitty bfstm converter I used didn't convert mp3s properly, so I'd end up with corrupted files after importing the tracks. .wav files worked perfectly fine though. Coincidentally, I converted wav files for the match bgm and mp3 files for everything else. So I ended up having corrupted sound play whenever I wasn't in a game, and I immediately thought it was because of the length. So I ended up editing all of the mp3s just so they were a slightly shorter length. After I edited them I saved each of them, where the program output them as .wav files which worked with that converter. I'm using a different converter now, it actually works with mp3s. It's a huge fucking improvement over that other abomination, holy fucking shit, converting each file one by one to brstm then bfstm was hell on earth.
In reality, the music randomizer gives fuck all about how long each song is. You could easily have a six minute long song playing in the multiplayer match intro and it'll work and fade out just fine.
Overall, this mod isn't too bad. There are still some problems and annoyances with it, not least of which results from it being a Cafiine mod you run from your PC.
You have to launch Cafiine from the Wii U every time you want to use it. I'm fine with it because I usually load SwapDRC when I play anyway, but for others it could get really annoying.
There's about a half a second delay with each custom song transition. This is both a result of the mod working through network connections and the fact that the mod has to wait for the song to play so it can replace the file.
Finally, (you) need to convert each of the files you want to play, to bfstm. If you don't want to loop the songs that play then just select the multiple files you want in the converter and just set it and forget it it changed the song when one ended for me so you should be fine. It's more complicated when you want to loop them: you can edit the file to loop seamlessly if you want, but you still have a program that lets you find the exact point where you want it to loop (sample number), and type the following in a text file loop.txt in the same folder as LoopingAudioConverter.exe:
[sample number where you want loop to begin] [sample number where you want loop to end] [filename]
For example:

The converter did freeze up on me a couple of times while converting. I lowered the number of simultaneous encoding/decoding tasks and that seemed to help.
If it weren't for the delay, the need to convert every file, and the fact that it functions as a Caffine server, this would easily be one of the best mods for the game. But in its present state, it's fine at best. A breath of fresh air compared to hearing just nine songs.
I posted the converter and mod if anyone wants to try it for themselves.

Just my two cents. Roles in general are a great way for squads to coordinate for a good percentage of matches, but you still need to think on your feet and adjust accordingly if the other team has something unexpected that would force all of you to take on the same role (three or more opponents have the same weapon/stacked abilities, or weapons with the same range), or if or your team in general is inconsistent with roles or fails to take them on (solo ranked).
I'd generalize further into an offense/neutral/defense approach to strategy, as in you need to know when to pay more attention to your surroundings and your opponents than to how you use your weapon or vice versa. The best example I can think of right now is if you're a sploosh within range of an e-liter and you're out of reach of your teammates. You have all but a couple of seconds to pay close attention to his charge rate, how he aims, where he aims, and how fast he moves his scope, to gather how or if he anticipates your movement toward a general spot and see how you could advance towards him by using any combination of jumping and going into squid or kid form, and when it's safe to start pushing your way towards a splat he starts throwing burst bombs on the floor and jumping like an autist. You can't just try and sleep on it to focus more on fulfilling a role, regardless of what your teammates are doing. More than likely, you'll end up throwing the match by getting yourself splatted and giving the sniper free reign to splat your teammates.
I'd go more into detail about this but I'm tired as shit right now.

That's the setup. Let me tell you the fun I had today.
It's been so long since I made a Nintendo account that I forgot the information. I never thought I'd need to mess with it, so I used an email that by now I've lost control over. I called customer support and had them switch it over to a gmail account I haven't deleted yet. I decided to clean out this account a bit since it had been years since I'd used it. Gmail will lock you out if you delete too many emails. I had to use customer support again and, being out of emails I wanted to just give away, used a family member's email. Then I could finally change my password, enter a credit card, enable the online free trial, disable the auto renewal, and then got to play twenty matches before my fast internet ran out. I'll be going to the library for the next week to get the most out of this.
This image would show roughly how I feel after all of this, if I could upload it. The customer support guy thought it was funny when I told him I wouldn't be going through all of this trouble if Splatoon wasn't so fun.

Don't have the second game, but I do have this. It's furshit but does a good job of explaining everything, mainly with using a capacitive stylus (up to you whether you want to spend $15 on a decent one or $1 on a 10-pack of midget-sized ones from China). The Wii U gamepad has a resistive touchscreen so it's easier to draw in 1. Miiverse is a past memory, though, so no point in discussing it until private servers come around. Most of the same principles apply anyway.
There's another thing about using Photoshop and homebrew on the Switch to transfer pictures in monochrome onto the post, but I wouldn't know the technicalities of it. Maybe someone else could help with that.

As somebody who has made a few pictures in Splatoon utilizing halftones, I kind of dislike these. They're not particularly good resources for beginners. They show a few examples in the 320x120 pixel format, but they don't really explain much. Also, there are much easier examples available. Give me a few minutes, and I'll just post a halftone cheat sheet that I made.

Here are the halftones I made. These are all of the "colors" that I use in my drawings, except for pure white and pure black. Beginners aren't going to learn a whole lot from those Japanese ones. They're a little advanced and provide no context. With a 320x120 pixel canvas, the details are limited and require so few different halftones that I feel experienced artists overcompensate in their Splatoon drawings. Or maybe I'm a complete faggot.

It's overly complicated. You don't need nine pages of halftones on 320x120 canvas. I have eight halftones total, including white and black, all which would fit on one page. Also, where are your drawings using these halftones?

Upon further inspection, I came to a realization that this hits a lot more close to home than I originally thought. I specifically remember the 1953 Chef Boyardee commerical when watching reruns of Dragnet and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. That commercial was sitting in the deep recesses of my memory, and it's now newly emerged.
It's a sort of meme purgatory. This video is Chef Boyardee purgatory, and my squid seems to be accepting it. Surrounded by Chef Boyardee Beef Ravioli and no can opener in sight. Is anybody else hungry?

That's actually pretty great to hear. My main problem was that Splatfests were broken in Splatoon 1 and it took them forever to fix them. If they were still using the same formula for splatfests why were they broken in the new game? It doesn't make any sense.

Splatoon 2's system is different from 1's.

They were using the same formula until last month, now they have a new system in place: Normal and Pro modes. Normal modes let you play with teams and battle it out to gain Clout (points), based on how much turf you ink, whether you win or not, and bonuses applied if your team has synergy (like being all squids/octos, or wearing the same clothes, or using the same weapons). Basically a party mode. Pro mode basically the same as the previous system, you play solo and build up a power score and only victory rewards you with Clout.
