been looking for an open-source torrent client that is exactly that: just a bare-bones tool for seeding/leeching .torrent files, no bells and whistles, nothing else. ideally independent of (((BitTorrent))) if possible. thanks anons.

deluge, looks simple and gay
qbittorrent, has extra features like able to search torrents somehow
transmission, has extra features like remote access
rtorrent, autism

Reminder that the creator of bittorrent already left development and claims he has Asperger because of his own 'analysis', bittorrent protocol is fine but the bittorent client isn't worth using at all.

A tracker is like an index of torrents.
A protocol is a commonly accepted format and procedure for sharing information.

I use uTorrent 1.8.5. Not open source, but 1.x versions have absolutely no kikery (it's a 285 Kb portable .exe) and it just works. Connection quality is great too.
For the few private trackers who block it, I use Deluge.

Deluge, Halite, or Rtorrent, Qbit if you managed to not get affected by the stalled disease
Dunno specifically for non windows OS but if Rtorrent runs on it it's what you should be using unless you're a filthy casual.
Anything else is shit particularly Transmission and µTorrent which inexplicably get recommended every fucking time.
>>15506120
There's a few valid uses for Tixati, like bypassing throttling based on PeerID (that's a thing when you're dealing with older µTorrent users)
Or when you want fine control over bandwidth restrictions / on the fly peer banning
Shame the program itself is rather shit otherwise, it's rather heavy and the UI isn't that great or reactive although you can rewrite the menus on the fly if you want.

Deluge had that thing where if you used one specific mode of HDD preallocation it would arbitrarily redownload large parts of finished torrents at random, might be that.

I didn't know about this, but >>15506340 has a point. Also, did you read that thread you linked? Some people there were speculating that this vulnerability actually does not affect versions 1.8.5 or older. My tests seem to confirm this. I've tried the test exploits linked there that supposedly can crash uTorrent and the one where it can display your active torrents, and they didn't work on mine.

Even Deluge feels bloated compared to uTorrent 1.8.5, even though the feature set is pretty much the same. (also, Deluge's GTK-based UI feels ugly af compared to uTorrent's native Windows API interface).

You're thinking of modern uTorrent.
uTorrent versions prior to 2.x had no ads at all and didn't even have installers, they were portable by default. And bitcoin wasn't even a meme yet when 1.8.5 was released.
