The Surge was heaps better than LOTF, LOTF was also made by a different studio in conjunction with Deck13. Some animations were recycled but no assets. And it would be more accurate to call it a Bloodborne clone.

The Surge was superior to Dark Souls 3 in my opinion, offering a fresh take on the sub-genre. The industrial theme, the free form upgrade system, limb cutting and more were welcome changes while Dark Souls just stagnated. The Surge 2 is improving ranged combat, adding more bosses and mini-bosses, creating a more expansive world, fixing the affinity system, adding character creation, adding online elements, making the combat even quicker, expanding the limb cut system and adding trick weapons. Essentially taking every complaint about the first game and improving it.

You played the tutorial. It seems that everyone that complains about The Surge never even finishes Central Production B, it's like dropping Bloodborne after Gascoigne and saying it's shit.

You still have to make the decision of whether to target unarmored parts for damage or armored parts for gear. And mid-game introduces PROTEUS zombies that regenerate parts and have different movesets based on what you cut (they are expanding on this in The Surge 2)

Different setting, limb targeting system, ducking and jumping, ability to change builds at any point, energy bar that rewards aggressive play (also turtling is impossible), weapon combos.
