As someone who backed the thing, no. It really wasn't. It had only a couple funny jokes and that was it. The game is just ugly as fuck with its slow, choppy animation, its short as fuck, and most of the jokes are heavy misses. Not to mention the characters have zero chemistry, pulling the same "your culture is different" card and pretending that works. So no. Unironically, this wasn't worth the wait. It really hit home that this shit and Homestuck as a whole is worth fuck all.

Not really. Too short and while the jokes were alright, it felt way more incomplete than it should have for how long it spent in development hell. The story for this "chapter" ends exactly when it starts getting interesting and my autism is triggered trying to figure out when this thing takes place.
Honestly I just want playable SBURB. I want to mix stupid things together to make items, travel to a planet and beat up mobs while solving puzzles until me and several friends fight the clusterfuck of a final boss we made through bullshit and shenanigans.

Hussie lost everything he paid them, rescued as much cash as he could by agreeing to a settlement where he can't talk about it, then did what he could with the rest by hiring an in-house team.
The game was in development for a long time, yeah, but a long period of time was just The Odd Gentlemen accepting paychecks and pretending they were still working on it when they hadn't done much at all, and everything after that was salvage and moving on.

I have a feeling that the behind the scenes drama about the game's 'troubled development' was mostly a charade and that most of the money ended up back in his pocket, a smaller amount put towards the joke that was the final product later on. Just a feeling, based on his public behavior and that of his friends. We'll never really know of course.
As for the comic itself, there's a semi-popular and actually fairly plausible theory that the last couple of acts were the work of a ghostwriter, which should tell you how bad they were. It's not really even worth going back and reading the "good" acts anymore. The legacy of homestuck is nothing more than a waste of several gigs of space on a server somewhere, and a derelict merch shop.
