Keep the controller port original it might cost a few bucks extra on manufacturing - oh fucking no, says the kikes who put gyro and touch pads and speakers and a 3hr battery on their current gen console controller so you can hook up what you want - including classic peripherals, and then give it wifi and a front-end so you could buy Playstation Classics.
And then do something with that goddamned Connectix emulator you bought and make the games cross-buy on the PS4 with "improved" visuals. But nope.
We want to be Nintendo. Assholes.
Who wants to bet the only reason why they're shipping it with the PSX controller instead of a DS is so that they can sell you an expansion later for DS supported games, and a brand new $60 USB DS controller to go with it.

I'm honestly surprised Sony considers Wild Arms "legendary", after having relegated it to the mobile reboot shitheap a year or two back, like it has no worth being on their systems anymore. Granted, I really fucking like that series (not enough to buy this though, especially when I still have my own copies), but it just seems an odd choice of words for what the media used to consider "filler" between bigger budget releases. Betting it'll only include the first game though and not the second (which definitely won't be in if it's meant to see a PAL release).
I hope this doesn't fag up the fanbase worse than it is. Bad enough people have spent decades arguing that Brad is a fag (to the point the devs had to respond that he's not) and whether he provides good representation.

Steam controller? It uses touchpads, for better or worse, which can emulate an analogue stick, on top of having an actual analogue stick, and it has two shoulder buttons, two analogue triggers, and two paddles, for a total of six rear buttons.
All Sony did was double something that already existed, and even fucked that up by not having a vibration function. Twice. Remember the SIXAXIS "we can't have motion controls and vibration at the same time because our motion controls are soooo sensitive" bullshit, and then as soon as the rumble lawsuit was settled the DualShock 3 was announced?
> Not that I think there's anything wrong copying a good concept.

He's still right that emulation of the fifth gen and above is still ass in large majority. Like you said, PS1 emulation is good, although I've only experienced with the POPS emulator (the official documented emulator from Sony). PS2 emu is a trashfire to the point I just went with an actual PS2 slim instead. Dolphin is okay, but it still gives various issues on nicher games that have yet to be fixed. I have no hope with the PS3 emulator (or newer emulators in general) because of the Patreon shit that give no incentive to developers to give positive results in a faster rate, but instead led them to leech on patreon golds.

Was the PS3-era PSN port glitchy or anything? Wouldn't surprise me if the thing just uses existing eboots (and thus only games that were already rereleased once).

Wouldn't shock me if that's part of the idea. Obviously ability to continue to resell games from a past library (though only a handful of what was even worthwhile on a given system) is something these companies would like to keep doing (and with Sony, despite the PS4 being PS2 capable, it doesn't share the PS3's PS2 PSN offerings), but at the same time, there's the matter of control and perception: Are they really going to want to deal with more people over time that dabble in older generations asking why, outright visual and audio quality aside, older games feel like they have a higher quality to them than newer ones?
>>15472640
Might depend on what they can get cleared, but most likely it'll be either "obligatories" where the absence of such would be really noticeable if outright trash ate one of the slots, and games Sony themselves own that they wouldn't have to pay licensing/negotiate to use (such as it already being confirmed for Wild Arms). Overall these things tend to act like an overpriced sampler pack of popular stuff.
I will say though that I found it questionable though that the NES one had Castlevania II (the official release, not a fanhacked one to fix issues) over Castlevania III.
>>15472645
>Xenogears
Another I don't expect to see, assuming that they intend to also bring this thing to PAL. Even with the PSN, where there were games with serviceable English scripts that saw rerelease on ours, Yurop and friends were once again denied an official release, most likely because they didn't see it to begin with (setting up a NA PSN account and getting card codes being a workaround). And honestly, I think that's been a huge failing of the rerelease system, both for Sony and Nintendo. Could have made a prime opportunity to let PAL have a native release of Xenogears, Wild Arms 2, Chrono Cross, etc, and NA have Terranigma, but no.
Plus, with only allowing for twenty games, they might already have their "JRPG" allowance filled with just FFVII and WA.
>>15472659
Maybe to a degree. Will really depend on just what selection they wind up with, whether it has a cheap alternative available on the PSN. Though, there is also the factor that the PS4 does not have a PS1 Classics section, so that would limit it to those that still have a PS3/PSP/Vita for official eboots..

I fucking agree with you when it comes to shit like the Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast, but ywe've literally had good PSX emulation since it was still being fucking sold in stores. Just because you're too much of a shit for brains to properly set up Mednafen or the PSP PSX emulator doesn't mean PSX emulation is shit, you fucking bellend. I can literally play fucking Baroque and the PSX Wizardy (games that are extremely obscure and the developers of said emulators probably wouldn't use certain tricks to make them work) perfectly on Mednafen with very minimal hiccups if any. Don't try and pretend that PSX emulation is unironically shit just because you're to braindead to do the minimal setup required to use it. For other systems, yeah hardware is by far the better choice just due to the multiple problems that arise if you aren't playing a popular game from that system (It took me a while to fix a bunch of graphical glitches Ogre Battle 64 had where whole portions of the screen wouldn't appear on Mupen64Plus before I was able to eventually fix it). But, PSX emulation is the exception to that rule and even fucking Bleem! proved that back in 1999 to an extent, and that certainly was true when you could play PSX games on your PSP not even 10 years later.

Apparently some people contacted Activision about it, because Activision owns the series now and Spyro and Crash on a handheld with two sticks is a nice idea, thinking the licensing had run out (ala DKC on the Wii's VC for a number of years), and they apparently said they'd had nothing to do with it and didn't know why it had been removed either.

More-so if they require moon knowledge to enjoy, and more-so beyond that if the game, or at least same version, actually had a native English release. But I'm talking why is BWT averaging $150 complete in the states, yet only slightly under $60 worth in PAL (which is admittedly above the $45 or so it was a month or two back)?
On that note, when exactly did CERO rating come into effect? For a second I was confused not seeing the square on the covers for II and III, and thought they were western until I remembered they had a same-case bundled release here.

20 is honestly pretty limiting, considering how many entries of various series, even ones debuting on the PS1, saw just on the system. Though unlike Nintendo, Sega, or Atari for that matter, there's some more actual concerns to be had with the filesize issue per game. With the NES and SNES, looking at things from a memory standpoint, a modern SD card or something can fit a LOT more than thirty games on it when the maximum file size of any individual one is going to be 6MB or lower (at least, that's what the largest SFC rom I have sits at). That leaves the actual issues there more likely the amount total they felt they could ask for however many games. Switching to one of these for a disc format system though, you start seeing minimum sizes jump to a upwards of 100 mb each, and the largest, multi disc games at over 1GB each. At the same time though, storage sizes and costs aren't as restrictive as they used to be, so there's still that as well.

I honestly haven't understood why the PS4 can't handle PS1, be it physically or from the store. It's just been baffling. PS2 and PS3 both had physical compatibility, and the PSP and Vita made do with ISOs converted to eboots, and thus were digitally compatible. Yet the current gen (or going by what Sony's claimed, soon to be past gen) one can't? This being announced makes me wonder if that was the intent in not doing so. Though, if so, they sure took their fucking time to figure it out enough to announce it. And even then, it's not like it's going to have remotely everything worth playing. Even the PSN was lacking (PAL more than NA) but it at least had more than twenty titles.

Because of the iffy legality? Emulation itself as a concept, and the programs themselves, are legal. It's the playing games you don't own part that is considered to not be. Granted, it's more likely that the host of rips gets slammed for DMCA and/or court dates than regular downloaders (I don't think we've gotten that far yet in regards to pirated vidya), but for some it's not a risk they want to take. So they wind up paying aftermarket prices ranging from cheap to astronomical, and/or limit themselves to what is made available cheaper, even if not of the profits in either case go to the devs anymore.

If not, I don't feel like it's a case of having to shell out an assload or never play it (and lets face it, something like .hack is not worth $200+ from the gameplay enjoyment end). Also debugged games, games with translation patches we never saw released here (and fuck paying $50 each for bootlegged repro carts that most likely have an "if you paid for this your a retard" screen from the patch makers), and rectified translations for some really egregiously shitty releases we got. He might be referring to the fact that barely any PS1 games used the analog inputs or vibration. Since developers could only assume players had a basic controller, they had to develop for that basic controller. If they included analog functions at all they were extra. There were of course some exceptions to the rule, but only an extreme minority.

I have no fucking idea. Sony probably did it to cut corners on the production line and re-sell remastered editions of games. Microsoft was at least intelligent enough to physically build Xbox original/360 comparability into the system. Even putting that aside, the PS3 had PS1 disc compatibility added via software update, so I have no idea why Sony has refused to budge on that. I highly doubt they had it in mind to sell these boxes from the get-go, because the PS4 has had so many different people in charge of it that have radically shifted the direction of the system.

I get the vibe they're aware of their own issues with IPs, considering they've already got FFVII and Tekken 3, with Wild Arms being a game from a series they themselves own (even if they don't develop it). Overall though, Sony's issues with their IPs isn't so much whether they own much or not, it's that they have a tendency to drop shit they do own within a generation, if not merely a game or two. Some series do wind up somewhat luckier, and admittedly milking shit isn't always a good thing, but for many of their franchises (or just independent games), they never bothered to keep them too relevant. Probably part of why with PSA they went to current gen multiplat characters, though it's still retarded to go there that fast when they still had valid characters and series to use whose only issues would be that they're "literally who?" tier to the average gamer because, again, not keeping their game relevant over time.
But yes, to try to have a smattering of games that cover best selling, popular stuff, they're apt to have to pay out licensing fees to get the ability to use them, because the PS1 was known for its third party support (compared with the N64 as a competing system). And that's likely to also effect the roster as far as how much they're willing to pay. And knowing them, they'll find some way to blow it, the way PSA's roster blew it.

This whole thing looks terrible. How cheap do you need to be to not include an A/C adapter. This isn't some shady chinese adapter from Wish or Amazon this is a $100 premium product from a company known for quality electronics.
Aside from that how are you not going to have analog sticks? I've bitched about this in other topics and everyone jumps on how "underage" I must be, and how "this is how it was back in the day" like I don't remember the thumb blisters from the original Playstations horrendous D-pad before we got the actual controller that was good enough for THREE console generations. God damn what a good controller. Wish we had that one! At ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS you could include the iconic dualshock.
As far as the game list goes, where is it. Its a pretty solid lineup, the 25% we know, but that makes me nervous for the other 75%. All the games are great, even if I'm not much of JRPG fan I can definitely see why Wild Arms is so beloved. Ridge Racer Type 4 is pretty much racing art. Final Fantasy VII defined the system and still holds a spot on my top 25. Tekken 3 is a great fighting game. etc. So why hold back the other 15? I can only assume its because its loaded with Spec Ops titles, Pool games, Football games, and the bad Ridge Racer entries.
As a Sidenote, who doesn't have an original Playstation or 20? You can't walk 2 feet in the retro gaming community with tripping over these fuckers. In fact its the best way to learn how to solder. Modchip your PS1 for burned copies and if you ass it up oh well throw away the Playstation and reach into the drawer and get a new one. Add into this the Playstation 2 and 3 can play Playstation games as well. I'm not a big emulation guy buy PS1 emulation is pretty much perfect and can be made even better with perspective correction and other tools.
Basically why?
Thanks for reading my blog.

Buyfags only get some of the blame, the vast majority goes to Sony for being kikes. If they're going to steal from Nintendo they could have at least took these "classic" reproductions to their ultimate conclusion as being fully functioning reprints of older consoles. It's been done by third-parties for years now.

I would assume a game like parasite eve is a lost cause then, because if I remember correctly square soft technically didn't own the series but was given temporary rights to make the games. So sony would have to go to square enix who in turn would have to track down the author of the original novel/whoever owns the rights to the properity at his point, which is asking a fuckton.

I've never had one so I don't know how shitty they are, I'm just aware that they exist. My point was more that companies like sony could make a working console that took ps1 discs and not be so jewish about their business practices.

Considering the games have made their way onto the PSN post-PS1 release, I'd think they might be fair game. But yeah, being "extended universe" or whatever of a licensed work might cause some problems.
>>15477980
Highly doubtful. And $50 is way too much for a PS1. PS2s go for about $40 and $60 (for fat and slim respectively) where I live, PS1 should be maybe $30 at best, if not lower, but I haven't exactly made an effort to check what those are at these days.

Playstation 1 literally invented the design standard for controllers nowadays. It's a very distinct design that did not exist until it came around. Just because some shitty sega/turbo controllers had two little fangs protruding out of them doesn't mean they were the same shit. They were closer to the original NES rectangle design.

For me it has always been solely about the games. I don't play games to make friends, socialise or find meaning for my existence. So I will just DL an ISO of an old game instead of buying it from eBay for $200 and enjoy myself. I sometimes really wonder if gamers actually GAME.

Are you me? I feel exactly the same. Down to every single letter of your post.
I would just love if video games went back to being a fringe subculture hated by normalfags for children, losers and mass shooters.
Small story, I remember the first and only time I made the mistake of going to a video games convention, back in 2008. A relatively large one too, it wasn't a small event.
I hated every second of it. For me, it was pure cringe. What I saw was a bunch of normalfags posing as gamers as an excuse to socialize or something, a bunch of prostitutes cosplaying as female video game characters, and a minority of teenagers and grown manchildren who fitted the stereotype of "nerd gamer loser" so well, down to stained shirts and the smell, that probably even Chris Chan was more presentable than them - funnily enough, they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Plus 2 or 3 families of seemingly clueless parents with small children walking around this freak show. All the time I kept asking myself what the hell I was doing there, as all I cared about was video games. I would probably have left less than 30 minutes after I arrived, if I didn't go with a friend who seemed to be enjoying himself immensely, and I was the one who had invited him. So I had to endure this shit for hours.
If that's how a gaming convention was like over 10 years ago, I can't even imagine what they're like today. I became even more asocial as a gamer after that.
