How about we talk about some LEGO games? A lot of them have been created, but which of them are any good? Most recent platformers from the series seemed to be all clones of Lego Star Wars, but they seem to have added a lot of things to shake up the formula The Superhero ones having a very big hub world to explore and characters with very different abilities, I heard good things about LEGO Worlds from you guys. Some older games look very interesting often having original gameplay ideas like LEGO Island or LEGO creators. Which ones are worth playing and what are your favourites?

Mine is Indiana Jones but that's just because I love Indiana Jones. The second one had that really fun dungeon creator but felt really short and kind of buggy with the occasional crash and rare minikit-is-fucking-missing softlock. I also hate the fact that they split the worst movie into three parts while the first three movies were shafted into having one act each, though made up for by having the better hubs. The boss battles in 2 were incredibly shit too with every boss being a waist-up-simon-says faggot.

Lego Star Wars III is a close second because of the whole Invisible Hand/Resolute faction hub idea they had.

Lego Island 2 was my favorite as a kid, and Lego Racers 2 was a go-to when I couldn't think of nothing else to play. I really wish they would make sequels to these.

I enjoyed this one, but I don't think it holds up very well. Not sure how I didn't used to get massive headaches from it, maybe it was because I first playd it on a CRT.

That jazz theme in the police station occasionally pops in my head.

There were some pretty good flash games on their website a few years ago. Last I checked that basic RTS one themed around that newer mars theme was still there. Too bad most of the older ones got removed and now you have to search archives for them.

Lego City Undercover is a pretty good GTA-like (or perhaps True Crime-like, since you play as a cop), and has a good time poking fun at classic cop movies and shows (ranging from Dirty Harry to Miami Vice to Cagney and Lacey. I think there was even some Dragnet in there))

It might have just been my pirated PC copy but I wish it had music.

The 3DS prequel is also pretty good, though limited in its ways. How they caught Rex Fury doesn't quite line up between the two games, suggesting parallel development without a series bible. The create-a-character mode gives you a female voice (for exploration) depending on your head choice, which is something the original doesn't do even if you select a female premade

Travelers Tales wanted to call it Lego City Stories but were afraid of Rockstar would sue because of the similarity to Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. The rumor goes that when Rockstar heard about it they were like "dude you should have called it that!"

Lego Rock Raiders is one of the most unique and fun RTS-game of it's generation. That game was really f'n fun on PC.

Rockstar actually owns a "City Stories" trademark so that's probably a reason.

But well LCU is one of the only modern TT-made Lego games I like, most of the shit they make is just so boring. Like I played Lego Incredibles out of curiosity recently simply because I like the movie but I almost fell asleep and I uninstalled it before finishing the first stage.

I replayed it recently. It's kind of a bitch to get running on new hardware and crashes occasionally. The thing is that the rock raider AI is complete bullshit, you can't directly control them, only give them suggestions. On the longer levels the ai can completely turn off or break forcing you to restart. Wrangling the AI is the only real challenge and gets aggrivating, why cant I just click a raider and click a fucking wall and he goes and mine it. But RR are the best lego sets.

Don't forget lego spybotics bois

Also I haven't kept up with lego games at all. Has there been anything decent in the later years? Aside from franchise adaptions all featuring the same gameplay, I've only seen Lego Worlds. Which has the same gameplay for the most part and went through retardo development.

>>15472009

It's a shame we didn't see any other comfy diggan games in the same vein. Also when I replayed it later I gotta say that that second-last level is absolute fucking bullshit and whoever thought that was a good idea is a god damn asshole.

I gotta agree, I found Lego Racers 2 to be disappointing due to the lack of Lego Racers 1-style powerups. The whole level-your-powerup system was pretty neat.

It's basically a 180 on everything Lego Racers did.

From Tracks based on every LEGO theme at the time in collections of 4 to 5 hub worlds that all the races take place on. Which is impressive as I it was one of the first to do so, Test Drive beat it though. Limited only by your imagination and constraints of a chassis to 19 bricks to play with and you get to make one for the story mode per world and can't mix different theme parts. That really brought the sequel down as the car creation in 1 is what really makes it, for me at least (though you could free build and mix and mach parts for multiplayer weirdly, only 19 parts still though).

Also from the upgrade a power up system in 1 to plain old RNG. The Car destruction to the point where you have to run to a repair thing is cool, but you have to be unlucky or stupid to have it happen. The unique bosses in 2 are interesting but I prefer having the race the various champs over 4 races and beating them.

While Lego Racers 2 innovated a lot stuff, it ultimately didn't beat Lego Racers 1 which was kinda meat and potatoes but done to perfection.

We'll never get a LEGO Racers 3 using the LEGO Digital Designer as a base for car building and race around Classic LEGO themes and the newer themes as well. Though since a lot of it is licensed might get a bit awkward. Also enjoy having the song stuck in your head now

Also I'd say try out the Lego Themepark Game if you can, it's a more simple version of RCT, but that's hardly a bad thing.

TL:DR

Lego racers was the best mariokart game that I've ever played. I doubt you can find other players for it, but if you really were devoted to having local co-op on a pc then you could probably mod it.

The movie games are all the same. Buy one if you like the movie and the core game loop. There's no reason to play them all.

The reason for that was because LI2 is one of the most remarkably poorly coded games in history.

For instance, almost every single repeated object in this game is a copied file rather than the same object being just placed multiple times. Each level also contains useless crap in its files from other levels that's never used. The most amazing instance of this is probably during the asteroid belt minigame, where there's like 3 or 2 variations of asteroids, but each one is its UNIQUE FILE so the game just loads hundreds of files for each single asteroid you pass. This shit should be taught on courses how not to make games.

Except they did make a Minecraft clone, it's called Lego Worlds.

They gave it the same treatment as they do with all their products that don't see enough success; they discontinue it.

It seems that Lego has given up entirely on making new videogames. Everything they've brought out in the last few years is just the same action adventure gameplay, just with a different franchise.

The days of videogames like Lego Island, Racers or Rock Raiders and of flash games like Junkbot, Spybotics just seem to be over.

>>15488258

Keep in mind that back then, games were sometimes significantly different between platforms. Lego was no exception to this, with Lego Rock Raiders having completely different game-play between PC and PS1. Lego Racers 1 seems to be pretty similar though.
