Fucking finally the Canacucks got it pushed in hard!
>Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) announces that it expects to record losses from the termination of development projects in its consolidated financial results for the six months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019 (April 1, 2018 - September 30, 2018). Details are as follows:
>1. Details of losses from the termination of development projects
>Capcom Game Studio Vancouver, Inc., a consolidated subsidiary of Capcom, primarily carries out development of home video game software for markets outside of Japan; however, Capcom is currently reviewing the allocation of its development resources that support the production of world-class content.
In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Game Studio Vancouver, Inc., Capcom now expects to record losses from the termination of development projects of approximately 4.5 billion yen under cost of sales in its consolidated financial results for the six months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.
>2. Outlook
>Regarding Capcom's full-year business forecast, due to factors including the continued robust performance of the PC version of Monster Hunter: World exceeding the company's expectations since its release on the Steam platform in August, following the blockbuster performance of the title after its initial release in January of this year, the forecast for Capcom's consolidated business results remains the same as what was projected at the financial results announcement on May 8, 2018.
>Further, there are no changes to the amounts of the interim dividend or year-end dividend that were announced on the same day.

As much as I am sad because Dead Rising is one of my favourite games, I am also happy that it can no longer be dragged through the mud for the time being even if it means the series may stop existing. When I first played it on 360 I was so amazed by this game, the characters, the scope of it, the various bossfights, the time constraints that got your blood pumping at key moments of the game. Years later when it was rereleased on PC it really put in perspective how much the series devolved, I don't think there is a lot of other examples out there of franchises losing their charm over time. In a weird way it also made me appreciate it much more.
I'm still baffled at how much those fucking Canadians messed EVERY single aspect of the game up, even additions that felt like a good idea like weapon crafting ended up undermining the experience because of easy exploits or overpowered combos. Frank, too, from the moment they started saying "Frank is back" in interviews I knew that he would be nothing like old Frank. In the entirety of 1 despite always looking for the scoop of his life he's very human and down to earth, helping whenever he can and trying to survive. For some reason what the Canucks took out of this was just that he's le wacky journalist with one-liners at every cutscenes.
Another often overlooked casualty of Capcom's outsourcing policy is Lost Planet. Lost Planet 2 was a fun over the top third person shooter with giant monsters, multi-seat morphing robots, huge variety in environements and scenes and lots of unlockable weapons/taunts/emotes/whatever. Lost Planet 3 is a cover based third person shooter with shitty drilling robots segments and CONTEXTUAL grappling hook. The only good idea in the game is the country music playing in the mech and the general pioneer feeling it's going for but it's barely an okay game and complete dogshit if you compare it to what came before.
I'm thankful that at least they had the dignity to put down DR, and maybe some day it'll come back better than it was. Or, maybe it won't come back at all. At least we'll always have the good ones.

No tiptoeing around the name, no "what doth death" bullshit, and no "they wuz real people, man". Just you, what NPCs you deem worthy enough to survive, and a limitless supply of rotten meat pinatas.

What's funny about my DR experience is that I started with DR2, then played Chop 'Til You Drop, followed by DR2:OTR, DR3, then DR1. The only step forward I liked was online co-op, I hated the money system from DR2, the micro-transactions with the costumes and the cheat codes in DR2:OTR pissed me off, and the DR2:OTR's sandbox mode should have not been unlocked from the get-go rather than having it locked behind Ending S.
In a way, I'm glad I got to play DR1 last, because I honestly get to appreciate the difficult curve in that game, unless you find magazines to ease the experience. What hurt me the most is the Time Limit aspect of the game. DR2/OTR was too easy for me, I was able to save almost all the survivors on my first playthrough and most of the missions were copied from DR1. Normalfags need to burn for the rejoice of the destruction of the time limit aspect, especially with DR3 and DR4.
I have an unpopular opinion about DR1, I love the survivor AI system. They behave so realistically in such a stressful environment, that honestly I wouldn't be surprised if that actually happened in real-life. DR2 destroys that by making the survivors fend for themselves with efficient weapons or getting a magazine to ease the escorts. If they mixed that with DR1's survivor's AI, then it would be a more immersive and difficult experience handling the different reactions of the survivors to the environment.
I'm just glad the series is getting shelved for a lifetime, or until they get their head out of their asses and expand on the world interaction from DR1.

The trick to the AI in 1 is to not spam the follow me button. I don't know if it's intentional or not but that alone makes an all survivor speedrun of the game actually possible. Otherwise it would just be a coin toss.

Nah the survivor AI in DR1 is broken. There are times where they will get stuck behind walls or not even move in a straight line towards a marked waypoint with no obstacles even with the leadership book. The most problems I had escorting survivors was in completely empty rooms and level transitions where they would refuse to stand close to me and get left behind and start taking damage.

No they dont, big groups get stuck shoving themselves off while trying to climb a 60 cm obstacle to reach the ventilation duct for minutes, they take retarded paths instead of walking over 1 cm tall planks etc.

Was still alive on PS3 last I checked. If only the entire game was just Monster Hunter in the future. I had way too much fun making all sorts of characters for myself. I always cracked up when a Wesker in the readying up screen appeared with a Femme Fatale pose.
I played the single player to death and picked up some good and funny tricks. Like how in Mission 2 when you first see the railway gun blow up the Cat-G Akrid, I used to jump on top of the barrel of the gun and spam emotes at the monster before the cutscene happened. Or how you could hold off the first Red Eye encounter not even by letting the red barrels loose, but running to the very last train car and shooting your bouncing 3-shot bazooka at it as it's maw closes in around you. Or waiting for the last possible second in Mission 5 to jump off the self-destructing desert ship. Or loading the railway cannon with the "secret" ammunition and supercharging it to blow a gaping hole into the side of Red Eye, all the while some crazy fucker runs to the very end of the barrel to spam emotes at the beast.
So many crazy moments to be had in that game. I would pay good fucking money for a perfected LP2.

He was, its well documented in 2007 Microsoft, Bethesda and EA started a joint smear campaign with western media to push a narrative that japanese games were shitty in order to make eastern devs panic and go back to the drawing board and rush out shitty games for western appeal. Allowing them to get stuff like Halo games and EA transitioning from movie licensing to original content with less risk. Inafune and Mikami were wined and dined with promises of jobs in the west if they engaged in internal sabotage and rumourmongering. The moment they left for the west their studios began to turn it around as the devs realised they fell for meme warefare and lost for years.

To me, the most embarassing takeaway of the whole LP3 ordeal is that when given the task to make a sequel to third person shooter with emphasis on movement, tons of vehicles/robots/weapons and huge bosses, the best thing a western studio could come up with is a cover based, slow paced game.
