I've been playing it, and it just doesn't feel the same.
The grind has always been in MMOs, that's kind of what MMOs have always been about. Gotta keep you playing until the next pay period.
However, before you would grind because you WANTED something. You WANTED to be exalted with these guys so you could get a cool mount or cool tabard, you WANTED to be exalted so you could get a special piece of armor or crafting recipes.
Now it's like you HAVE to grind. The economy is completely fucked, with basic potions costing over 3k, new mounts costing hundreds of thousands of gold (one of the new vendor mounts costs 5,000,000 gold) and grinding being a necessity.
Like I want to do battlegrounds or level a new character, but it feels like I HAVE to keep grinding, otherwise I won't be able to keep up with people. Once you start falling behind in item level then you stop being able to do mythic dungeons, which just puts you further behind and less likely to get a raid group.

From everything I've heard from the youtube crows (the only people left who play this trash) it seems the inherent problems with the design decisions that I left the game for have simply hit their logical endpoint. The developers refusal to take any percentage of their time to implement sandbox elements in the slightest, and instead focusing on nothing but putting higher numbers in increasingly stupid skinner box raids, has caused the long term game to end up choked to death on its own waste.
Time that should have gone into making professions an interesting and rewarding game in and of themselves was shunted over to making more raid content.
Time that should have gone into making the game more social and immersive was shunted over to making more raid content.
Time that should have gone into developing role play tools for players was shunted over to making more raid content.
Time that should have gone into making the open world gameplay more meaningful and interactive was shunted over to making more raid content.
Time that should have gone into making factions into something more meaningful than a second leveling advancement was shunted over to making more raid content.
And now, after more than a decade of this behavior, the MMO aspect of the game is nothing more than a gear acquiring UI to get gear to go into a raid. And the dozens and dozens of previous raids are sitting there, used only for solo challenges and to get a skin for a weapon or armor. The game is nothing but a putrid sledge of people running raids just to get better gear, with a few freaks that try and finish those raids first. It still costs 100 bucks a year to play this shit on top of buying the expansion.
I pray that Blizzard will finally pay for their mistakes and frankly scumbag business practices.

Same anon here, you're given a necklace that levels up with a resource you collect called artifact power. With each level you can unlock three to four tiers of traits on head, shoulder and chest armor. The problem is that you can get a higher ilvl item, but if your neck isn't high enough level you can't unlock the traits on the armor. That leads to higher ilvl gear NOT being a upgrade until you grind out neck lvls. To make this system shittier the neck levels are time gated so you might have to wait literal weeks before the armor you get will be a upgrade. The traits you unlock are super dogshit boring passives and don't change how your class plays so you never actually feel stronger. This shit is so bad that the lead designer of wow held a ama on plebbit because they are pissed. It went really bad and evem plebbit is screaming about how shit wow is. Blizzard refuses to fix this dumpster fire and told people to stay subbed because the game will get better as more patches come out.

Are you talking about the Alliance's reasons for going into the new raid? It's an excuse plot, just like way back in Burning Crusade where the Blood Elves needed the Horde to stop the Amani from wiping them out, but the Alliance quest for Zul'Aman had nothing to do with that and was instead about helping some redneck steal from them.
That's how they've handled every dungeon and raid where one faction really shouldn't be there. Hell, with Battle for Azeroth it's even how they handle zone questlines. The Horde questing in Kul Tiras is basically the Horde fixing all of Kul Tiras's problems so that they can join the Alliance to kill the Horde, all while Kul Tiras NPCs and villains ask "Okay, but who the fuck are you?".
It's pretty fucking stupid, but then so is most of WoW's writing.

The top raiding guilds have been predominantly Horde for literally years now, that's nothing new. The last time an Alliance guild took the world first endboss kill was Dragon Soul back in Cata (and that was likely only because the actual top guilds at the time got banned for exploiting LFR), and the last time they took any boss kill world first was Nighthold in Legion. In fact, Alliance guilds have only claimed three endboss world firsts in the entire history of WoW: Blackwing Lair, Ruby Sanctum (which almost doesn't count since it's a one boss raid), and Dragon Soul. I also went through Raider.io's logs of the mythic races for all of Legion's raids, as well as Uldir, and tallied the number of Alliance guilds in the top 10 and 100:

>Trial of Valor: 29 Alliance guilds, 4 in the top 10
>Nighthold: 28 Alliance guilds, 3 in the top 10
>Tomb of Sargeras: 23 Alliance guilds, 1 in the top 10
>Antorus: 18 Alliance guilds, 2 in the top 10
>Uldir: 13 Alliance guilds, 0 in the top 10 (but #11 and 12 are both Alliance)
While there's been a bit of a downward trend, remember that the Uldir race isn't over yet, so take that data point with a grain of salt. Still, it goes to show that Horde have been the majority of the top raiders for a long time, and it's my gut feeling that reports of guilds swapping to Horde side en masse are anecdotal at best.
It's a fair point that Alliance players really don't get much intro to what exactly is in Uldir in the first place, but since when has there ever needed to be any story beyond "there's a big bad thing in there that's gonna kill everybody, go kill it first"? The amount of raids with an actual storyline going through them is not very high in the first place. If you really care, use your free boost on a Horde character and take a day to run through the zone questlines. I think some are theorizing that the next raid with Azshara is going to be over on Kul Tiras anyway, so then you'll have Horde players complaining about not knowing what's going on. It's like poetry.

Everything feels super slow and clunky. They merfed secondary stat scaling heavily(which slows down haste) and gutted a lot of abilities from the classes. Also, they moved a number of abilities onto the gcd whereas they did not trigger the GCD before. Azerite gear is hot-steaming garbage if you can even get it in the first place. Yes. Elemental got the worst of it. Its talents don't make sense, its stat'ing is retarded and counter-intuitive (and optimal stat'ing is a playerbase-created band-aid fix making lemonade out of lemons), and its rotation is braindead and consists of two to three buttons so there's no way to actually play it adeptly (it has no skill ceiling at all; or its skill floor and skill ceiling are the same). Also its survivability is garbage, its mobility is nerfed (Gust of Wind is gone and was replaced by a talent that buffs Ghost Wolf the longer you're in Ghost Wolf, but you can't cast spells in Ghost Wolf so you have to silence yourself to take advantage of the talent's benefits), its mobile DPS consists of spamming Frost Shock and casting the occasional insta LvB. That's why you had arena seasons where basically every gladiator team was composed of triple humans for the horrendously overpowered PVP trinket racial. After that, it's just been momentum. But starting in Mists, the Horde has utterly dominated the world first races. In fact, Horde guilds have gotten complete world firsts on fifteen raids and are poised for a sixteenth with Uldir. Granted, four of these are Magtheridon, Obsidian Sanctum, Eye of Eternity, and Throne of the Four Winds, which are all one/two boss raids. The Horde is also the only faction that can claim to have cleared an entire expansion first, which they did in Mists. The horde racials including the faction based priest spells and the shaman class in general were seen as more slanted to pvp while alliance was considered to have an edge on raiding due to the human rep bonus, priest's fear ward and pally threat reduction buff. By Wrath, it was definitely allience PVP, horde PVE. Humans in particular with their "every man for himself" budget PVP trinket racial were almost hands down the best choice for PVP race, while Trolls and I think Orcs had pretty substantial damage boosting PVE racials. Man, shaman got so fucking shafted this expansion. I've been an enhance main since I started playing, and I can honestly say that it's the worst I've ever seen it (except for maybe early Cata, that was pretty atrocious too). The rotation is the same but without the artifact that made it work so now it's just meh, the damage is shafted, our utility is just kind of all over the place, and survivability and healing are shit. The worst part is that they haven't said jack shit about any sort of reworks; ferals already got buffs (although apparently they only buffed AoE or something, I wasn't really paying attention), but there has been nothing but radio silence on shaman.
Azerite is a fucking retarded boring awful system, a bunch of traits that barely affect anything and you probably wouldn't notice if they were removed. That shit was supposed to replace artifacts, legendaries, and tier sets all in one fell swoop, and it's worse than any one of those separately. I hope whoever came up with that shit gets fired. During Mists of Pandaria the wait (global cooldown) between abilities was 1 second and your haste reduced this so it was actually 0.5 seconds. Now the wait is 1.5s so it takes 3 times as long between using abilities. They have also consistently removed abilities and any form of character progression, so you will be using 2 abilities for the 150 hours it takes just to level to where other people will actually be playing the game. They changed enemies to scale based on how strong you are, both your level and at max level they scale based on your equipment, so the farther you progress the weaker you get.

Tbh Cata was alright too but I think that is where everything started going to shit. Dumbing down the skill trees and adding group finder is was a major nail in the coffin imo.
After group finder the social aspect of the game got gutted and they had to add guild perks in order to give players an incentive to continue bothering to be in a guild, since there is no other purpose to them now.
Now guilds are just 95% random people who never talk and 5% inclusive cliche of friends (IRL or game friends) who ignore all the random peasants and spam the chat with their drama that everyone else has no idea what its about..
Before there was a strong reason to be apart of a guild and talk to randoms you come across on your journey and befriend them. They were the people you would ask when you're looking for more people for your dungeon run. A decade ago I made one in game friend who we did almost everything together. It was fun and I still remember him after all this time. Now that kind of relationship is pointless because muh LFG and muh queue up for anything from anywhere at any time.
When I last tried WoW it was boiled down to the most efficient grind with everything else stripped off. Just spam LFG and do the same dungeon with randoms who dont say a single word through any runs.
So FUCK WoW, they sold out their user base in order to dumb everything down and appeal to the lowest common denominator; the NPC normalfag in order to increase sales and maximize shekels. They destroyed their game out of greed.

Vanilla was the last time a major online MMO had talkative people and they were almost all white and weren't on HRT or otherwise representing a poisoned culture. Vanilla was the last time we seriously talked about roleplay and the acronym was still MMORPG and you'd still get some passive roleplay on regular servers without people calling you a faggot (although it was on its last legs and was gone by the end of vanilla). Okay, someone who actually tried the expansion out because a friend got me into it, will share what exactly is wrong with the fucking expansion. Based on experiences of me and my friends.
So the expansion comes out and although the global writing The things that are happening to the most important plot are fucking shit, the locations that are given to us are really fucking cool and the writing on the local scale is really fucking awesome. As long as one forgets about the stupid tree debacle, and the reasons why you are on that island, you have pretty cool plotlines like trying to save an ancient kingdom from a civil God war while hordes of unwashed nigger cucks, that let themselves be tortured by their females and worship a semi-eldritch blood god storm their gates. As someone who really liked reading quests and just leveling my characters, that was really fun to me. Then I hit max level and had to gear up for the raids by mostly doing dungeons, which were okay and a decent amount of fun.
And then everything goes to shit in every possible way.
Every single feature that they added was either bugged, badly implemented or completely fucking broken.
Let's take raiding for instance, you have the Uldir raid, with very simple three first bosses, easily destroyed by our small 10-11 player group. You should know that the raids are supposed to be flexible so that you can bring a smaller or bigger group of people depending on the size of your guild and circle of friends. We get to the next two bosses, one of which has a mechanic of giving debuffs to a few players, which jumps to the closest players. The problem? The number of the players that get the debuff IS THE SAME NO MATTER WHAT SIZE YOUR GROUP IS. This means that a 20-player group will have it easier than a 10 player group, because, they will aquire the stacks of debuff slower. Blizzard decided to balance this a bit, and it still didn't fix the issue. 10 player groups are easily wiped and are literally unable to beat the boss, while larger groups have no fucking problem with doing that on the same difficulty. Not only that but Raids are basically fucking useless because every reward you can get from Mythic+ is better.
The Islands Expeditions, one of the more advertised things in this expansion turn out to be boring grind they looked fun at first, with completely broken and irritating bots.
People were fuckig unable to even get to the Warfront when it first came out.
The Azerite system is complete and utter RNG-fest that forces you to grind for your actual traits, some azerite traits are so important for the classes that they are worth getting even despite a 30 ilevel difference.
Actually, everything has become more grindy, especially with Blizzard's leveling """Revamp""" in which they multiplied the HP of all mobs by some amount and left it like that basically fucking BREAKING some of the quests in the game. I know this was done before BFA but is still fucking shit
They've been nerfing every single fucking quality of life thing, from boosting characters through dungeons to spawn rates of already incredibly costly materials for professions.
You couldn't even GET to fucking warfronts because the quees were bugged for everything when they came out, and the warfronts themselves are fucking boring with no reasons for them to be PvE instead of PvP and no reason for them to be unlosable.
People who are saying that too much time has gone into making raid content are wrong, because that's like saying that too little time went into fixing a ruptured heart rather than into fixing a skull ripped in half. It doesn't matter how much time went into anything because EVERYTHING is broken anyways, which means that not enough time went into any aspect of the game, so what's the fucking difference?

Horde have locations designed in a far worse manner gameplaywise as they need to run long distances for everything, and every fucking thing they get is either buggy, unfinished or shit. The story gave us the retarded shit with what Sylvanas did again, the problem is not with her being evil, but her jumping from lawful evil/lawful neutral to chaotic evil with no character development and Blizzard lying to their players and everyone feels that Blizzard is antagonizing their faction while using them as the beta-testers for alliance. So I would say that both factions have it pretty shitty.

The locations and music are fucking awesome. To be honest, the best thing about this expansion so far, which isn't saying much, because that's like saying that the tutorial level of a game is awesome and it's the best thing about it.
Still, if you're in there only for the leveing and quests, it's pretty fucking cool but it won't last you long. The actual local stories are fun, but the main plot of the expansion is dogshit.

Actually fixing a ruptured heart would take precedence because depending on the damage to the cerebral cortex the skull could even heal itself if the damage is specific enough. A ruptured heart is a certain death however due to how much use it gets and how much bloodflow can actually damage the slightest abnormality.

The one thing that matters (the raid) is pretty good, so I don't hate BoA. It has lots of problems, such as that the dailies are a huge chore and that the m+ grind is just a snoozefest, but Uldir is fun.

So I think the apt comparison would be… A young actor who has hit it big because he was cast in a once in a lifetime roll is so narcasistic that he gets plastic surgery done to appear more handsome. As he gets more rolls he continues to get surgery after surgery that shaves off more of his face to make it 'prettier' even as he starts to look horrific. On top of that he's gotten a bone infection from over-reliance on the procedure, addicted to pain pills and all manner of other drugs that have left him a broken mess. One night, on a drunken rampage, the actor totals his car. His face is ripped off, skull caved in, lungs punctured, and ruptures a ventricle on top of all the illnesses and drugs ravaging the body. Worse yet, when this happens the bleeding meat that is his body is shipped over to his plastic surgeon to fix when it's apparent even a crack team of the worlds best doctors would only have the slimmest chance of saving his life, and even then would leave him a mangled atrocity begging for death.

I like this expansion myself. I stopped playing during Wrath of the Lich King. Mists of Panderia turned me off. This expansion finally brought me back.
I like it now because I don't have to raid, and I can get the best gear by doing 5 man dungeons with just my friends. I thought War Mode would ruin world PvP, but the assassin and pubg style crate mechanics combined with forcing everyone to do repeatable quests in the same areas makes it fun.
I think I would probably still prefer it if they had talent trees like the old days, and a wider variety of spells. The classes are probably easier to balance now, not that they do balance them well. I think the greatest shame with the new class roles and such is that they made Enhancement and Elemental Shamans useless. Only Restoration Shamans have a shot at getting high rankings in the arena or doing well in dungeons. I switched to playing a Holy Priest instead. I figure Discipline Priests will be nerfed soon.
I don't mind the time gating myself. I have a life outside of WoW and I couldn't put in any more time than needed to do daily and weekly goals, and maybe level an alt. It pretty much prevents teenagers from getting better shit than I have, because they have more time available.

I think they did this before Legion dropped. A player named Asmongold had 40 people in his garrison, said "My name is Asmongold and I love World of Warcraft" and had everyone report him right afterward, and he was d/c'd and silenced for 24 hrs within a minute I believe.
